Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Having temporarily fended off Yang Yu, Clochi slightly raised his head, his black helmet transforming into mist that flowed towards the stub of his severed limb, materializing into a black arm.

”Indeed, I did not misjudge.”

”I really wish you’d give me a heads up next time you decide to attack,” Yang Yu said.

Clochi flexed his dark arm and spoke, ”An enemy on the battlefield won’t send you an invitation.”

”Can we continue our earlier discussion? Tell me, why do you think Humans and the Demon Clan are not so different?”

Yang Yu’s surprisingly calm demeanor caught Clochi off guard,

”I thought you would consider me mad for saying such things.”

”The ravings of a madman can still hold value.”

Clochi chuckled:

”Then allow me to share my ’mad ravings’ with you.

I have crossed the threshold and visited the Demon World.

Their world really isn’t much different from ours.

There are men and women, old people and children, good citizens and bad ones. Most of them have no clue about the wars, the races coexist peacefully, only occasionally there are minor squabbles over the borrowing of someone else’s Underground Maze.

Quite the revelation, isn’t it?”

Yang Yu stood still, quietly listening to everything, not showing any signs of disbelief.

”If by revelation... not really. A race that only knows warfare and can survive solely through pillage is what I would find unbelievable.”

”You’re more interesting than I expected.

If we’re to discuss the biggest difference between Humans and the Demon Clan...

It’s not in appearances.

The Demon Clan is unexpectedly tolerant; as long as you don’t treat them as enemies, they will treat you sincerely.

But if Humans were to face the Demon Clan...

Have you ever heard a story where Humans accepted the Demon Clan?”

Yang Yu shook his head, ”I don’t know much about this world, at least up to now I haven’t heard any such legends.”

”That’s a shame.

It can’t be helped.

The Demon Clan invaded our world from another, bringing us suffering, that’s an undeniable fact.

But I have also encountered conscientious members of the Demon Clan, who question their actions, feel remorse for the dead, and wish to end the war...”

As he spoke, Clochi seemed reluctant to continue the topic, abruptly changing the subject.

”The Demon King, what about the Demon King?

Asking what the Demon King is like.

Such an important figure, I only met him once.

I thought he was a blood-thirsty person, but he was just a bit solemn.

He was even more approachable than some high and mighty figures.

Of course, that was just the Demon King of my era; I don’t know about the others.

I didn’t witness that war to its end; perhaps, it was just a mask the Demon King wore.”

Approachable.

Yang Yu never expected to hear such an adjective for the Demon King, especially from Clochi.

As far as Yang Yu knew, the last King of the Star Clan, a former companion of the Hero, had suffered inhuman treatment.

Could this be the legendary behavior, being kind only to allies and striking enemies hard?

This isn’t... something often seen in... wait a second...

Thinking of this, could there be a possibility that the Demon King is another player?

Although he knew there were other players in this world besides himself, Yang Yu couldn’t confirm that all players began at the same starting point, soldiers walking into the town staff dorms from zero.

”You’ve been with the Demon King Army for a long time, do you know what the Demon King’s goal is?”

”To conquer the world,” Clochi succinctly replied.

Yang Yu pressed on:

”And after conquering the world? I want to know his real purpose.

If it’s just to show off his greatness by conquering the world, then never mind.”

”Indeed, war is merely a means, a tool to achieve a goal. If we’re talking about the real purpose of the Demon King, it’s not something that someone of my level would know. However...”

”However what?”

”This is just a rumor I happened to hear; the Demon Clan came to this world looking for something. I was also given orders to search for something.”

Yang Yu immediately became interested, ”What exactly did they have you looking for?”

”I don’t know exactly, they would give us a strange device.

Like treasure hunting, as long as there was something they wanted within the area we were responsible for, that device would instantly detect it.”

”Where is the device used to search for that thing now?”

”Who knows.”

Clochi shrugged his shoulders and launched a new attack, which Yang Yu effortlessly dissolved with his skill.

The two continued to talk while fighting.

”Perhaps the Demon King of the future generations will still possess such a device.

Maybe, they have already found what they were looking for.

That tool could have disappeared in our era, just as well.

I have no more information to give.

If you’re hoping to grasp some clues from my story, I advise you to give up.

I can’t restore every single detail to you.

And human memory is biased.

It tends to be influenced by personal feelings, leading to certain deviations.”

”By saying that, you’re making me even more curious about what you’ve experienced.”

”What I wanted to tell you, that’s it. Once you defeat me, there’s no need to ask me anything more.”

”You seem to be sure that I will win.”

Clochi smiled without speaking.

From the beginning, Yang Yu had a feeling that if Clochi truly wanted to share his life story, he wouldn’t have handed over the key so early.

He guessed that the moment he defeated Clochi, he would completely vanish, leaving nothing behind.

He would be buried by the dust of history along with the memories of the past.

So, having gained a certain advantage, Yang Yu was bold in conversing with Clochi, trying to extract more useful information.

Regrettably, things did not go as he hoped.

Every time Yang Yu tried to dig deeper, to understand more, the information would stop abruptly.

Since the other party claimed to have no more information, Yang Yu didn’t intend to hold back.

Yang Yu chose not to use his Shield to block Clochi’s attacks, but rather to use his Sword.

In the clash, the blackness on Clochi’s Sword Blade completely peeled off.

Considering everything that had just occurred, the sword Clochi held was very likely the key to activating those Demon God Statues.

If he could seize the ”key” in his hand, perhaps he could shut down those giants.

In the midst of the collision, Yang Yu’s gaze swiftly scanned over Clochi’s sword, noticing strange patterns on the bluish hilt, which indeed looked quite special.

To confirm whether the guess was right or wrong, the sword would have to be taken and tested first.
