Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

”Most soldiers indeed strictly followed this rule.

But...

If they saw their close friends die in war...

The life that was so vibrant just moments ago, suddenly collapses into their arms, and they watch as the warmth slips away from their fingertips and can do nothing about it...

It’s only natural for their attitudes toward war to change.

We can’t know what attitude someone has toward this war.

You feel the same, and so do I.”

When General Dongmu said this, a trace of loneliness appeared in his eyes, but it quickly was replaced by determination.

Yang Yu agreed, ”Honestly, that’s true.”

Previously, Yang Yu enjoyed guessing others’ thoughts and proudly spoke their minds before they did, thus shaking their confidence.

But now, Yang Yu no longer tried to predict the future because the chances of being proven wrong were simply too high.

He would list all the possibilities instead for reference, to be ready with the remedy when the time arrived.

General Dongmu spread his hands helplessly,

”As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together.

When people think Humans and Beastmen share a deep hatred, irrevocable by heaven, they often want to inflict tragedy on the entire race of the other to reclaim what they have lost.

Once others agree with this viewpoint, they gradually gather.

Even if there are some clear-headed individuals among them, they too get swept up, their voices drowned out by the majority.

I do not appreciate dirty tricks, taking out one’s anger on unarmed civilians.

As a soldier, one should confront and defeat the enemy fair and square.”

Their fists met, General Dongmu looked at Yang Yu for a moment, then smiled,

”I’ve said so much, are you going or not? If not, I’ll find someone else.

Although those people are extreme, they still belong to the Wansheng Country. To outsiders, they even represent the Wansheng Country Army.

Their atrocities really make us uncomfortable.”

Yang Yu rested his hand on his chin, pondering for a moment before speaking,

”Autumn is already half over.

The Luo Ze Empire has also withdrawn their troops from the border, I originally planned to prepare for winter offensive operations.

But since General Dongmu has spoken.

I will cross the border once, and bring those guys back.”

”I’ll count on you then. I’ll now give you their possible routes so you can find them before irreversible consequences arise.”

General Dongmu pulled out a strategic map and pointed out the estimated routes on the map.

Yang Yu took out the map and recorded everything. The area where that division was operating wasn’t far from where Yang Yu’s troops were stationed.

It would be ironic if they thought, ”Since we have General Potato backing us from behind, in case something happens, General will come and rescue us” and then crossed the border.

”There’s one thing.

If I find them, and they’ve already started attacking the civilians of the Luo Ze Empire,

by then, should I take them in according to military law?”

General Dongmu nodded firmly,

”Mm.

Our goal is to prevent our troops from bullying unarmed civilians and to stop them before tragedy happens, then bring them back.

That’s the ideal scenario.

If a tragedy does occur, there’s no need to cover for them.

Admitting the mistake readily will earn the giant dragons’ forgiveness.

Also, one more thing, even though the Human troops have been avoiding you, you never know what they might do.

If you encounter danger, make sure to prioritize your own safety.

Speaking of the winter offense.

I’ve been wanting to see how you plan to change the course of the battle.

The regret of last winter, to be made up for in this coming winter.”

”Don’t forget the Memory Crystal you promised me.”

”People have already been sent to prepare it, I won’t forget.”

With that, General Dongmu completely cut off the communication.

In the bright tent, General Dongmu leaned back with his hands, looking up at the empty tent ceiling.

After a while, General Dongmu pushed himself back up and sat next to the Crystal Ball, sighing deeply,

”What a pity, such a pity.

I really thought he could become our ally.

But, it can’t be helped.”

His identity has been confirmed; he’s indeed not our ally.

It was just a simple misunderstanding on my part.

I really don’t understand why he wants to help us so much...

General Dongmu scratched his head, wishing he had the Mind Reading Technique.

...

...

After packing up the fishing rod and explaining the situation to his troops, Yang Yu led his troops past the border between Luoze Empire and Wansheng Country, immediately searching for the whereabouts of that troop.

Meanwhile, tragedy had already struck.

However, the tragedy had befallen the Beastman Army.

Numerous complex Magic Arrays spread out from all directions, converging to form four giant Magic Arrays, which finally merged into a pristine white bud.

Within this bud, a vibrant red flame was nurtured.

”Fiery Fire Blossom”

As a gentle voice resounded, the bud slowly bloomed, and flames surged out, engulfing the Beastmen attacking the civilians, charring them to ash.

Heatwaves rolled, and a woman’s light purple hair floated in the wind. Her black eye mask concealed her face, revealing only her faintly colored lips. Her voluminous purple-gold robe clung tightly to her body with the wind, outlining the shape of a tight-fitting bodysuit underneath.

Behind her, countless villagers stood stunned, a little girl clinging tightly to an old man, sobbing inconsolably.

As the flames died down, the strangely dressed woman sighed deeply, full of regret as she spoke to the little girl:

”I’m sorry, I arrived too late, I couldn’t protect your dad and the warriors who tried to protect you.”

The little girl tried to stop her sobbing, wiping her reddened nose intermittently,

”You don’t need to apologize...

It’s not your fault, sister. It’s all the Beastmen’s fault, the wicked ones from Vorquis. It’s because of the Beastmen, dad and uncle...

It’s all thanks to you, sister, that we were saved...

Seeing us alive, dad would...”

As she spoke, the little girl couldn’t help but start crying again.

The old man held her in his arms, continuously thanking the strangely dressed woman.

The woman smiled, but her smile wasn’t genuine; it was more like a courtesy. She still hadn’t been able to save everyone, and this guilt stemmed from deep within her heart.

As the woman was thinking about how to deal with the charred Beastman corpses, an untimely sound of beautiful music began to play.

The woman looked in the direction of the music, only to see a minstrel with white hair and a long beard, frail hands playing a lively melody.

”La~ la~ la~

A new hero epic begins.

Praising your virtue.

Miss, could you listen to one more song from me, as I tell the tale of a hero lurking in the darkness?”

”Again?” The strangely dressed woman was puzzled and asked, ”Sir, have we met before?”
