Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 595: Chapter 595 Poison Icon

Following the instructions of the Wanzhang Lion, the Imperial Physician slowly wound the bandages around the body of the Wanzhang Lion, and the intense stench of decay assaulted his face. An unhealed wound was revealed before Yang Yu, oozing with translucent pus.

The skin near the wound was uneven like the rind of a yellow orange, yet there were no signs of it festering.

The resurrection medicine had not fully repaired the Wanzhang Lion’s wounds.

On the Wanzhang Lion’s Status Bar, poisoning was displayed.

This icon of poison was different from that of ordinary poison, it was a golden shimmering monkey icon.

Yang Yu felt this special icon was somewhat familiar.

While traveling through the Kafezaro Desert, Yang Yu and his party had encountered a Desert Guide named Jiao Sha, who bore a poison icon resembling a face-hugger with eight legs.

As it turned out, the poison that afflicted Jiao Sha did not come from snakes, but from the Black-footed Mother Spider guarding the Hall of Courage.

It was strange, however, that the Mother Spider did not naturally possess such intelligence and venom.

During their journey to the Goblin Maze, Yang Yu’s group had also encountered a peculiar spider with unusual intelligence.

They were not simply ordinary mutations but had been transformed by someone, following orders, guarding the maze.

This monkey-shaped icon likely represented some type of demon that had undergone modifications and acquired its own unique venom.

While no one was paying attention, Yang Yu tapped the icon of the poison to check the detailed information on the toxin.

This poison would continuously deplete the victim’s life force, the more vigorous the activity, the quicker the depletion, and it would also cause the victim’s body to rot, leaving an extremely foul smell.

Undoubtedly, this kind of poison was most suitable for assassination.

With this in mind, Yang Yu noticed a message on the system; upon checking, the task full of question marks had an increased clue progress by one.

The very thing that harmed the Wanzhang Lion was doubtless related to the spider guarding the maze.

“Your Majesty, if I may be so bold to ask, did you clearly see who attacked you? It would be best if you recount the events from beginning to end,” Yang Yu said.

The Wanzhang Lion furrowed his brow and after pondering for a while, still decided to tell the truth of his experiences to Yang Yu.

As the war intensified, the Wansheng Country gradually found itself at a disadvantage. To reverse the tide of battle, the Wanzhang Lion personally led his troops into attack, quickly recapturing several strongholds.

That day, having valiantly captured a certain stronghold, the Wanzhang Lion, without a moment’s delay, led a small group of elites through a forest, hoping to use a diversionary tactic to capture the next stronghold.

Unknown to them, halfway through, they were ambushed by a large number of Luo Ze soldiers, and it took the Wanzhang Lion an immense effort to escape the encirclement.

While the Wanzhang Lion was utterly exhausted, a cold arrow pierced his abdomen. He turned around only to see someone dressed as a Luo Ze soldier hurriedly packing up a bow and arrow, darting into the canopy.

“Your Majesty, did you see his face?”

The Wanzhang Lion shook his head, “I was too exhausted, and everything before my eyes was a blur, and since regular Luo Ze soldiers all wear helmets, I couldn’t make out his features.”

That is to say, in addition to someone finding and using the venom of that creature, one cannot rule out the possibility that the creature itself might have posed as a Luo Ze soldier to attack the Wanzhang Lion.

Many monkey-like demons do not differ greatly from humans; clothed and humanoid, they are hard to distinguish.

“This is going to be tough…” Yang Yu furrowed his brow, “Imperial Physicians, you must also suspect that this is probably caused by some kind of poison. Haven’t you negotiated with the Luo Ze Empire, hoping they would take responsibility for His Majesty the King’s condition?”

“Hahaha.” Wanzhang Lion let out a laugh tinged with helplessness, “Don’t be naive, let go of your fantasy. The Luo Ze Empire values glory more than life itself; their leaders would never allow their military to commit such a despicable act.

I guess I killed too many of them at the time, and someone took it upon themselves to wound me with a secret arrow. If you tried to investigate, it’s likely you’d come up empty-handed.”

“Father.” Princess Qian Xialan seemed to struggle to speak, yet she ultimately made a confession about something she had done without Wanzhang Lion’s knowledge, “We did make contact with people from the Luo Ze Empire, offering a certain price in exchange for the medicine to heal father’s illness, but…”

Princess Qian Xialan was unwilling to continue, she forcibly brought her speech to an end.

Hearing Princess Qian Xialan say this, Wanzhang Lion’s smile vanished as he asked sharply,

“What price!”

Princess Qian Xialan remained silent, prompting Wanzhang Lion to turn his gaze toward Ming Dalak,

“Ming Dalak, you tell me, what was the price!”

“An area radiating from the center of Qinghe Volcano.” Ming Dalak answered, “At that time, the Luo Ze Empire had already occupied Qinghe Volcano. It wasn’t hard to imagine that they would use it as a stronghold to launch a powerful attack against us.

Hence, we decided to use that region as a bargaining chip to offer to the Luo Ze Empire.

Unfortunately, they completely denied any connection to His Majesty the King’s injury, and the matter was left unresolved.”

Wanzhang Lion was furious, raising his voice in rebuke, “Qian Xialan! Have you forgotten what I have said before?

This country was as hard to establish as reaching the heavens, every inch of land was seized by our ancestors at the cost of their lives; how could you just hand it over so easily?

Even if I died, I would never allow my country to lose territory like this!”

Princess Qian Xialan was so berated by Wanzhang Lion that she couldn’t hold herself upright, shrinking back into a corner of the bed.

“Ming Dalak, you were from that era, you know the hardships better than anyone, why didn’t you stop Qian Xialan then?”

“Because I have lived through that era, I understand that an excellent leader is more important than many things. Your Majesty, if the land is lost, it can still be retaken.”

Ming Dalak consoled him,

“If we lose Your Majesty, our country will be like a dragon without a head, having lost too much. Hence, at that time, I chose to accept Princess Qian Xialan’s proposal.”

“I’m sorry, I spoke out of turn.”

Wanzhang Lion lowered his shoulders, feeling that Ming Dalak had a point. He looked back at Yang Yu,

“As for my injuries, Potato, you’ve seen them, is there anything you can do to heal them? It’s alright if there isn’t, just allowing me to recover is already an enormous kindness, and no matter what, I will reward you accordingly.”

“Your Majesty. After seeing your wound, I indeed have a new idea. Please do not move so vigorously, as this poison consumes the individual more the more they move. I ask Your Majesty to sit on the bed and listen to my detailed explanation.”

Having Wanzhang Lion sit back down on the bed, Yang Yu began to slowly recount his experience on the fringe of the desert where he helped Qing Shi save his father, omitting Bai Jin and their time in the Goblin Maze while restoring the details as much as possible.

“That’s how it is, the poison in Your Majesty is no ordinary poison.

I believe, like the father and son I encountered in the desert, we need to find the source of the poison and use special materials to create a unique antidote to remove the poison from Your Majesty’s body.”
