Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 576: Chapter 576: Can I Take on This Task?

Yang Yu spoke with such persuasiveness that tears nearly came to his eyes. If he hadn’t kept reminding them that this was a story he’d made up, even he might have believed it.

”I only speak the truth, and His Majesty can verify it simply by sending someone to the Life Forest.

To heal my disease, I used all the knowledge I learned to work hard for money and managed to buy two bottles of a potion known to cure all wounds, called the Revive Elixir.

Unfortunately, although this Revive Elixir could cure all other wounds, it could not cure my Woodification Disease, and it certainly couldn’t heal the pain in my heart.

When I returned to where the Plant Clan lived, the Plant Race Council sensed the stolen Racial Essence of the Plant Clan in the potions and kept the elixir among the Plant Clan.

As long as His Majesty goes there to verify if the Plant Clan indeed holds that bottle of elixir, the truth of my words can be confirmed.”

”Is everything you’re saying true?”

Qian Xialan, who had heard somewhat of the renown of resurrection medicine while desperately looking for a cure for her bedridden father, couldn’t help but ask.

Alas, they were a Subhuman country, and the Revive Elixir was mainly circulated in the Human world; she’d also heard it was discontinued, and they essentially had no access to it.

Hearing that the Plant Clan might actually possess the Revive Elixir, Qian Xialan couldn’t sit still, somewhat uncontrollably rising from her seat and nearly rushing over to Yang Yu to inquire further.

Ming Dalak’s cough sounded again, and Qian Xialan gradually calmed down, sinking back into her throne with a serious face to ask:

”Can you guarantee that the elixir is in the Plant Clan’s hands?”

”I assure you, it’s the absolute truth. It’s just that now, I don’t know what has become of that only bottle of elixir.

I’ve heard a bit about His Majesty the King’s situation, so when I left, I specifically warned the Plant Clan to preserve that bottle of elixir unless absolutely necessary.

I visited the Plant Clan and understood many things; their refusal to enlist in national service was a last resort.

As long as Your Majesty Qian Xialan is willing to promise the Plant Race Council that you will no longer conscript them into service, I believe they will happily hand over the elixir.”

”Really?”

Qian Xialan almost couldn’t contain the excitement in her heart, her rear nearly leaving the throne again; but after Ming Dalak’s emphatic cough, she pressed herself back onto the throne and said:

”I shall take note of what you’ve said, and if the Plant Clan truly possesses such an elixir, I will indeed send someone to retrieve it. That will also prove your innocence.”

”Your Majesty having such an intention makes me very glad. But...” Yang Yu knelt down halfway and said, ”could you entrust this task to me, Your Majesty?”

”You?” Qian Xialan hesitated a bit.

”Though my bloodline is impure, I am still part of the Plant Clan, and since it was I who placed the elixir there, direct communication from me would be much more efficient than if Your Majesty had to dispatch an army for the task.

The Plant Clan highly values the Racial Essence within that Revive Elixir. If they can’t be certain of the trustworthiness of the visitor, they likely won’t hand over the item.”

Yang Yu knew his proposal had a fatal weakness.

If the forces of Wansheng Country bypassed him and made contact with the Plant Clan directly, they would only need to cunningly extract information about Yang Yu’s identity to easily know that Yang Yu was lying, foiling the new plan he had conceived.

Yang Yu had planned from the beginning to use the Revive Elixir left with the Plant Clan to establish his narrative, knowing that if the elixir could save the life of the true King of this country, then his status in the eyes of the country’s leaders would certainly soar.

Though it was unlikely to ascend rapidly to success, the starting point was indeed higher than most others, and as long as he proved his strength in the following actions, gaining a voice in matters was only a matter of time.

Yang Yu had really wanted the soldiers to head directly to the Life Forest, yet the fact that he was a Human had been so easily exposed.

To cover up one lie, he had no choice but to concoct one lie after another.

What Yang Yu was thinking now was when he could truly stand up and shout in the great hall of Wansheng Country, ”I am a Human, what can you do about it?”

Regrettably, if Yang Yu dared to shout that now, he would certainly be captured by the army of Wansheng Country and beaten to a pulp.

It might not come to a public execution, but he would be locked away forever, let alone meddle in the war of Wansheng Country – he might even find it difficult to level up in peace afterward.

After hearing Yang Yu’s request, Qian Xialan fell into a brief silence. She wanted Yang Yu to quickly bring back the Revive Elixir but was somewhat afraid that Yang Yu and his companions were just looking for an excuse.

Afraid because their Human identity had been exposed, they wanted to leave this place quickly, hence they spun an outrageous lie.

Unable to make a decision, Qian Xialan could only look to Ming Dalak beside her, seeking help, hoping that Ming Dalak would offer advice. She believed that the elf, who had lived almost a thousand years, would definitely be able to make a more constructive decision.

Meanwhile, Ming Dalak shook his head secretly. Qian Xialan was still too young and inexperienced; even after governing for some time, when it came to matters involving personal feelings, she was still too emotionally unstable, lacking the demeanor of a monarch, far removed from the King who founded the country.

That King, at Qian Xialan’s age, already possessed all the qualities a King should have.

But perhaps he was being too demanding.

More than three hundred years ago, Ming Dalak, who had lived for over six hundred years, was knowledgeable but trapped by his own knowledge. He had attempted more than once to prevent that King from leading the Subhumans to build a nation on this land.

If that King had listened to even one word of his at the time, this country would not have existed.

Maybe, he was just too harsh on the descendant of that King.

Qian Xialan, born in an era of prosperity, had done well enough.

Comforting himself with this thought, Ming Dalak advised Qian Xialan, ”Since he has said so, Your Majesty, let him go. If he goes and does not come back, the next time we catch him, we should execute him immediately.”

”Execution... Yes... that’s right... This is a crime of deceiving the monarch, indeed such a punishment is appropriate.”

Qian Xialan’s brow furrowed slightly. Sitting in this position, she had come to understand the weight of words, how a casual remark from her could determine someone’s life or death, which is why she always spoke and acted with caution.

However, thanks to the presence of trustworthy people around her, Qian Xialan could speak her mind and decisions without fear.

”Mr. Potato Thorn, I will take you at your word this time. I shall personally send a letter of utmost trust to the Plant Race Council, and you shall be the one to bring the so-called resurrection medicine to us.

If the Potion is indeed effective, I promise to reward you handsomely and do everything I can to help you with your Woodification Disease.

If you run away, it means you are making an enemy of Wansheng Country. No matter where you flee to, we will bring you to justice and strip you of everything.

This is an order, bring me the Revive Elixir.”

As soon as Qian Xialan finished speaking, new Task notifications popped up on Yang Yu’s panel.
