Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 584: Chapter 584: You Old Scoundrel, You’re Very Wicked

Following Wan Huawen, Yang Yu left the training grounds, arriving together on the desolate plains.

The round lanterns emitted a faint light, unable to dispel the chill of late autumn for Yang Yu and the others.

Glancing around, Yang Yu didn’t see any Blood Lions other than Wan Huawen. He asked with extreme uncertainty,

“That… Lord of the family,” you mentioned you would select someone to be my opponent. I’m wondering… that person couldn’t possibly be you, right?”

Though Wan Huawen had said he would judge based on Yang Yu’s performance, and losing was acceptable, Yang Yu hadn’t mentally prepared to face such a formidable opponent, unwilling to be easily battered by his adversary.

Must one truly engage in an unavoidable battle to be accepted into the Blood Lion Clan?

But no task had been given yet. Yang Yu vigorously tapped the System interface, but the System simply wouldn’t refresh with a new task.

Left with no other choice, Yang Yu started to consider how to lose less embarrassingly.

Unexpectedly, Wan Huawen shook his head,

“Your words just now indeed made me want to test your depth. Later, I thought it over and found a more suitable opponent for you. Just wait a bit; he should be back soon.”

Hearing Wan Huawen say this, Xin Mang suddenly knew who the person administering the test was. She slightly furrowed her eyebrows and confirmed again with Wan Huawen,

“Uncle, are you sure you really want him to fight Wan Ze?”

“I’ve decided. Moreover, Wan Ze has always been arrogant, underestimating his opponents. You know his bad habits; whenever he comes back, he is always drowsy from drink.

As long as he can sober Wan Ze up, this test will be considered a pass for him.”

From Xin Mang’s reaction, the Blood Lion named Wan Ze must possess extraordinary strength, yet according to Wan Huawen’s response, he seemed to have some undesirable habits.

Just as Yang Yu intended to ask what sort of Blood Lion Wan Ze was, he noticed both people gazing intently at the towering walls surrounding the Blood Lion Mansion.

Yang Yu followed their gaze.

He saw a small figure flitting about at the edge of the wall of the Blood Lion Mansion. With the help of streetlight, Yang Yu could see clearly that it was a gourd.

The gourd hopped several times before finally flipping over the wall and landing within the Blood Lion’s territory.

Lotcar’s ears picked up the clear sound of sloshing liquid; it was a wine gourd filled with alcohol.

Following the wine gourd, a dark figure leapt from the other side of the high wall, his hands pushing off the wall to climb up, then, appearing unsteady, the entire person clumsily sprawled out on top of the wall.

It was as if he had failed to secure his grip. The shadow slid down, but he didn’t struggle, allowing his body to free-fall, landing near the wine gourd.

After a while, the figure that sprawled out on the ground got up unsteadily, his body leaning heavily forward as if he might fall at any moment but never actually falling, he picked up the wine gourd, taking devilish steps towards Yang Yu and the others.

As the figure drew closer, under the faint light of the lanterns in the wild, his outline became more and more distinct.

It was a lion-eared youth about the same age as Yang Yu, dressed in white Daoist robes, haphazardly half-open, bearing his left side naked as if cold, his left hand tucked into his chest, the right hand raised the gourd to his mouth to guzzle.

“Your opponent is him, my good-for-nothing son Wan Ze,” Wan Huawen sighed deeply, not hiding the disappointment and regret in his words, “If you can manage to knock him sober, you will have passed my test.”

“Potato Thorn, don’t be fooled by his carelessness; three years ago, he received an invitation to the Dragon God Conference from His Majesty the King. Wan Ze’s strength is unfathomable, far surpassing that of his peers.”

Xin Mang stepped forward and tugged at Yang Yu’s sleeve, only to find that Yang Yu’s face had already turned solemn.

Through the panel, Yang Yu could peek at all of Wan Ze’s attributes.

[Wan Ze

Race: Blood Lion (Third in line to lead) Level: LV 62

HP: 8410/8410, MP: 3530/3530

Personal Attributes: Strength 2560, Defense 1598, Intelligence 154, Special Defense 854, Agility 652

Status: Drunk (Damage reduction 0~50%, due to haziness, skills and attacks are more difficult to land)

Special: [Bloodbath Lion LV.MAX]—For every 10% of maximum health lost, damage increases by 10%

Resistance: Physical Resistance +10%, Magic Resistance +10%, Flame Resistance -10%]

At only level sixty-two, to possess such attributes, this young Blood Lion named Wan Ze was without a doubt among the world’s top-tier talents.

Xin Mang had already made it clear that he had received an invitation to the Dragon God Conference, which meant he was also one of the strong contenders for the win.

What was more critical was that when Yang Yu looked at Wan Ze’s attributes, he always felt something was missing.

After some thought, Yang Yu realized that both Wan Ze and Wan Huawen, these two Blood Lions, did not list Endurance in their attribute tables.

Not displaying charm and Luck was something Yang Yu found unproblematic.

But the Endurance, which used to be visible, had disappeared from the Blood Lion race.

Whether it was hidden for some reason or because the Blood Lion race fundamentally lacked the concept of Endurance, possessing nearly infinite stamina.

If it was the latter, the Blood Lion race was indeed too powerful, combined with the passive of [Bloodbath Lion], they were natural-born war machines.

“I say, assigning me such a powerful opponent, you must have heard I’m aiming for [Fury Blood] and are deliberately making things difficult for me!”

Yang Yu’s mouth twitched slightly, and what was more infuriating was that Wan Huawen did not show any sign of wanting to deny it.

“You can think of it that way. However, I see no problem—he’s already drunk. You just need to go over there and give him a couple of whacks, and he’ll wake up,” Wan Huawen said. He casually pulled out a thick wooden rod from next to him, removed the lantern hanging on it, and handed it to Yang Yu, “This rod is easy to handle; I usually use it to discipline him.”

Looking at the rod passed over by Wan Huawen, Yang Yu felt completely calm, even a bit amused, and could somewhat guess what was going to unfold next,

“Tell me, can you discipline him every time?”

“If I could beat him to the point of skin and flesh every time, he wouldn’t end up drunk as a skunk every time before coming back. Go on, get going,” Wan Huawen shook the large wooden stick in his hand, “If he plans on harming you, I’ll go over and do my best to stop him.”

You old scoundrel, you’re quite the sly one, stopping him, why don’t you rush up there and slap him across the face now!

Clearly, you can’t wake him up yourself, so you’re sending me in.

You can’t discipline him yourself, so you’re letting me do it for you, and you dignify it as a test, how filially devoted.

Yang Yu’s mouth twitched uncontrollably, what he didn’t know was that if he hadn’t brought up the matter of the Racial Essence, but chose to wait to discuss it after passing the test, this test might have been a bit easier.
