Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 555: Chapter 555: Come, let’s get rich together, how about that?

”Yang Yu, we’ve been down this road before, if we go right, straight to Luoyu City, if we go left, we will continue to pursue the scent... Think calmly about which way to go.”

Perhaps noticing the furrowed brows of Yang Yu on his back, Lotcar stopped as they reached a fork in the road. He didn’t want Yang Yu to worry excessively about Bai Jin and Iyas’s safety, and make a wrong decision.

Lotcar’s worries were unnecessary, the greater the crisis, the calmer Yang Yu became.

After figuring out some things, he even made a joke,

”Even the grand Luoyu City, filled with the big shots, couldn’t handle the invaders; going there would most likely mean delivering our heads on a platter. Better to tuck our tails and run.

Just kidding.

From Bai Jin’s recent reaction, the attack on Luoyu City ended in an instant.

The super large magic destroyed the temporary village outside but didn’t destroy the main city.

After the major magic subsided, Bai Jin then communicated with us to report her safety.

During the refuge, Bai Jin might have had to use magic reluctantly, leading inevitably to her capture.

The events in Luoyu City have settled, but the attacks against the elves haven’t ended; the Queen and other elves likely don’t have the leisure to judge her and would at most detain her.

Lotcar, keep tracking the scent; we’ll go defeat the Slave Hunters and seize the power of speech.”

Noticing the confidence in Yang Yu’s words, Lotcar said nothing but smiled and continued tracking the scent, moving forward.

Gradually, a choking smell of smoke pervaded the air around them, and the temperature also rose a few degrees, a noticeable change in the deep autumn forest.

A few miles further, a barrier made of flames gradually appeared before Yang Yu.

The flames didn’t spread outward, indicating it was some kind of magic.

Inside the wall of fire.

Seven men in grey robes lifted elves who had been knocked to the ground and threw them into iron cages prepared in advance.

A short-haired female elf, while the man locking the door wasn’t paying attention, bit the man’s hand sharply. While he howled in pain, she seized the opportunity to flee towards the wall of fire, attempting to break through.

But in the blink of an eye, a massive man blocked the short-haired elf’s path and kneed her brutally in the abdomen, smashing her against a tree.

The short-haired elf gasped heavily, the attack making her feel as though she was about to vomit out her liver.

As her expression became somewhat dazed, the bulky man who had kneed her approached, lifted his foot without hesitation, and shattered the short-haired elf’s shinbone.

A screaming cry, hoarse and exhausted, echoed through the burning forest.

”Hey, hey, hey, Mande, don’t overdo it. She’s, after all, a girl. You treating her so cruelly, leaving scars, won’t fetch a good price,” a slender figure remarked teasingly with a laugh, showing no sympathy while watching with relish.

”It’s fine. They are elves, protected by Holy Light, fundamentally different from us who have been abandoned by the goddess. Even if they get minor injuries, they can recover using the Holy Light within them; no need for us to worry.”

The man named Mande kicked a few more times until the elf’s voice was reduced to a sob, then moved his foot, grabbed the elf’s throat, and roughly threw her into a narrow cage barely a meter high.

Glancing at the other elves who were also caged, Mande’s lips curled into a sinister smile. Assuming the pose of a victor, he pointed at the freshly caged short-haired elf,

”Take a good look! This is what happens to those who try to escape on their own. If you don’t want to end up like that, stay put!”

Elves huddled in cages, shivering incessantly.

A year after the tragedy had occurred, some of these elves responsible for hunting had believed that it must have been the Humans who seized an unprepared moment with their despicable means to capture so many elves. As long as they were prepared, Humans would have no opportunity to take advantage of them.

Yet, reality had brutally slapped each of their faces; in less than half an hour, this small squad of a dozen elves had been brought down.

If what that mad elf had said was true, next, they would definitely be sent to the Human World by these people, sold into slavery, and subjected to inhumane torture.

Even if they managed to escape back from the Human World, a thick shadow would linger in their hearts.

Fear and unease spread among the elves.

At that moment, the elves heard a series of hurried footsteps rapidly approaching the airtight wall of fire.

Arriving in front of the wall of fire, Lotcar suddenly halted his steps, his body half-bent to the ground as he gathered strength. A gust of wind formed around him, instantly repelling the surrounding dust and causing the flames that made up the wall of fire to sway.

The gathered strength burst forth in an instant, and Lotcar leapt forward; it was as if he had harnessed a hurricane, creating a tunnel through the thick wall of flames and breaking through the intense fire.

A strong wind blew in their faces, and the slim man who seemed to be the leader sensed something amiss, turned his head, and saw a silver giant wolf lunging at him with bared fangs and claws.

That giant wolf’s silver-white fur shimmered like a mirror, reflecting the leaping flames onto its body.

Chanting a spell, a light shield rose from the slim man’s body, blocking Lotcar’s attack; but Lotcar’s power was so enormous that the slim man and his light shield were forced several meters back before he could barely stabilize his posture.

Mande looked towards the giant silver wolf and the man sitting atop it, clenched his fist ready to act, but the slim man held out his hand stopping Mande. Acting unconcerned, he laughed as he faced Yang Yu,

”It’s really rare, apart from us there are other people here, and they are Monster Tamers.

Such a ferocious beast, you’ve raised it well.

Forgive me for not introducing myself earlier, I am Yaklo, a Slave Hunter. I presume you too have come here for slave hunting; we have no intention of monopolizing.

How about we share the wealth?”

The man claiming to be Yaklo, spread his arms joyously, showing Yang Yu their spoils,

”We’ve already caught so many elves. As long as you help us get these elves out of here, I guarantee to share them with you, two...”

Yaklo stretched out two fingers; not long after, he extended a third finger,

”No, I’ll give you three elves, you can choose any you like.

After all, we are quite worried about the Elf Queen’s Personal Guard.

Don’t be upset with us for disrupting your battle plans.

If the Elf Queen’s Personal Guard arrives, even as Slave Hunters, we can do nothing but flee.

So, what do you think? Consider it.

If you’re not picky, we can even give you four, and throw in that heavily injured elf over there.

Elves are so valuable, we are being quite generous.

It’s even an apology for disrupting your plans.”
