Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 563: Chapter 563: You elves are no different from us humans

In Luoyu City, to be selected into the Hunting Team, one needed not only an extremely high hunting ability but also strong psychological strength in order to remain calm and make judgments and decisions under various circumstances.

Although the scattered villages were not as strict as Luoyu City, the situation was similar.

Unless they encountered an exceptionally powerful enemy, the Hunting Team would not shrink back and tremble; instead, they would do everything possible to escape.

The last time the Hunting Team had quivered was during the initial Demon Invasion.

If what the Hunting Team said was true, the enemy they encountered likely possessed a power similar to that of Demons, a natural predator of the elves.

”I believe everything you’ve said.”

Ailena lowered her gaze, waved for the Elf Hunting Team to step back and rest, then turned to ask Yang Yu,

”Can you tell me who it is that attacked the elves and your team?”

”This involves matters I want to discuss with the Queen later, which include some confidential intelligence.

I hope the Queen will grant me an audience as she did last time, so I may have a proper chat with you.”

Yang Yu’s statement stirred discontent among the public. Why couldn’t he speak in front of them? They, too, wanted to know who was persecuting the innocent elves, leading their lives into such hardship.

Otherwise, where were they to direct their anger and dissatisfaction?

The citizens each cast a pleading gaze towards Ailena, hoping she would refuse Yang Yu’s request and have him reveal all he knew in front of them.

However, Ailena, in a rare turn, opted to disappoint the public’s expectations and made the opposite choice.

”I understand. Let us move to the Palace. Just you and me, alone.”

The elves in the square were again abuzz, crying out ”Queen, Queen,” and pushing forward, attempting to change her mind.

The Queen’s Guard struggled to maintain order, but to little avail; eventually, they resorted to using Holy Light to build a golden transparent wall around the Elf Tree, completely separating the public from the Queen.

With that, Ailena led Yang Yu along the huge vines back to the Palace.

Sedately seated upon the throne, Ailena instructed the Personal Guard to also prepare a chair for Yang Yu. Then, with a wave of her hand, she ordered the Personal Guard to stand by. Without her command, they were not to enter and interrupt their conversation.

”Please forgive my earlier impertinence, Queen.”

Yang Yu once again bowed to Ailena,

”I did so out of fear of speaking too much, and being exploited by someone with ulterior motives hidden within your race. Moreover, I can assure you the Queen definitely would not want others to overhear what I’m about to say.”

”It seems what you want to say is not just about that group of people.”

Ailena maintained her composure, knowing Yang Yu held a significant amount of intelligence. To prevent tragedy, she had to understand every detail and learn who exactly was meddling with the Elf Clan.

”It’s a matter that could stir up the whole body if one hair is moved; naturally, it’s not just that simple. What I mean is, I can think of a possibility. Whether the truth is as such, I can’t say for sure.

Well, there’s no harm in listening.

Before we start discussing this matter, there are some things I’d like to talk to the Queen about.

Without clarifying those things, we cannot begin.

Queen, are you prepared?”

”Prepared for what.”

”The enlightenment that I have exposed.”

What is there to expose? He couldn’t suspect that it was I who actively allowed these things to happen, could he? If so, I would have thrown him to the periphery of the Elf Forest. Even if he had done favors for the Elf Clan, I would never allow him to set foot in the Elf Forest again.

Humans live for such a short time. Judging by his face, Yang Yu was too young. Ailena didn’t know what Yang Yu wanted to say, but if it was too absurd, she would use the Queen’s majesty to refute it.

”As long as what you say is correct, regardless of enlightenment or the lack thereof, but if it’s nonsense, I hope you never come near the Elf Forest again.”

After saying this, Ailena saw an extremely obvious smile on Yang Yu’s face,

”Whether it’s nonsense or not only depends on whether Queen acknowledges it. Let me ask Queen one thing, do you believe that a traitor has infiltrated Luoyu City?”

Ailena decisively said, ”Among us elves, there will be no traitors.”

”Why is Queen so certain?” Yang Yu pressed.

”We are a race blessed by the goddess, and it has always been so for tens of thousands of years. We trust each other and can communicate telepathically...”

Before she finished speaking, Ailena realized that Yang Yu had fixed his gaze upon her, as if his eyes were trying to penetrate every corner of her being.

”Is it really so?”

Before Ailena could reply, a snicker echoed through the empty Palace.

”In my eyes, you elves are no different from us humans.

All these talks of heartfelt communication, of complete trust in each other, are simply self-deception.

The so-called ’telepathy’ you boast about is because every elf truly believes in it, and thus, every elf can open their heart and treat their kin equally.

Every elf has such a simple mind; without much thought, one can easily empathize with others’ true feelings.

Sadness is sadness, joy is joy, anger is anger. Why we are sad, why we are joyful, why we are angry—just draw a little closer to one another, and it all becomes clear.

However, the prerequisite for this ’telepathy’ is based on everyone having an ’affluent’ life.

Queen, how do you provide them with what seems like an ’affluent’ life?”

Ailena said nothing, but her gaze towards Yang Yu changed, showing her dilemma about how to explain to him.

But Yang Yu had no regard for the Elf Queen’s feelings, brutally lifting the veil she attempted to cover herself with.

”Desire, once born, often breeds more desires.

After tasting something delicious, one will long to experience the same pleasure again and then yearn for other delicious delights.

Queen, I know what you are worried about.

Once you venture out into the world and see the vast array of uniqueness, you will involuntarily aspire to it, and if unrestrained, desires will expand endlessly.

In the long run, they will grow increasingly unwilling to return to the impoverished Elf Village.

Furthermore, some elves, in their pursuit to satisfy their endless desires, will seek wherever they can, and when they cannot obtain what they want, they will resort to all sorts of methods, leading to varying degrees of deceit and temptation.

Engaging in deception and temptation against their own kin—Queen must surely abhor such actions and would not want them, after learning bad habits outside, to lead even more elves away from the forest they reside in.

After reading the ’Elven Chronicles,’ I too had many questions, but it wasn’t until I saw the expressions of the elves just now that I suddenly understood.

Aside from the elves’ longevity, their use of Holy Light, and their slightly more beautiful appearance, it seems there’s nothing different between us.”
