Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 579: Chapter 579 Grandpa Tong He

Xin Mang was right, in a place where they were strangers, finding a familiar guide was most efficient.

But Yang Yu felt that if he simply agreed to her, it would be like owing her a huge favor.

And favors were the hardest things to repay in this world.

Considering possible future developments, Yang Yu did not want to abandon his own plans just because he had to repay someone else’s favor.

So, he could only pretend to be reluctant, behaving as if he could manage without her.

He did not want to struggle between repaying favors and continuing his plans.

A favor borrowed had to be repaid, but the situation still needed consideration.

On important matters, Yang Yu would not compromise.

By acting disdainfully, at least others, after being rejected, would think that it was just his nature and not harbor too much resentment.

However, it seemed that Xin Mang was not the type to use favors to ask for help; she purely enjoyed helping others.

On the way to the Blood Lion Mansion, tasks as simple as helping elderly ladies cross the street were performed by Xin Mang five times, including but not limited to helping lost children find their mothers and rescuing cats stuck in trees, which significantly delayed their journey.

Yang Yu seriously doubted that if it were not for Xin Mang, he and Lotcar would have reached the Blood Lion Clan’s residence much earlier.

Finally, as the night crossed the last street, Yang Yu and his company arrived at the Blood Lion Clan’s residence.

Two huge lion statues stood majestically in front of the grand redwood door, heads raised, mouths wide open, roaring powerfully.

Xin Mang gently knocked on the redwood door, which responded with a thunderous sound, splitting open a dark crack. Through the crack, a pair of feline eyes glared like they were watching prey, emitting a sharp light.

“Who goes there? What brings you here?”

A hoarse voice emanated from behind the door, devoid of any happiness or sorrow, yet invoking a sense of fear.

“It’s me, Grandpa Tong He. Leader of the adventure group ‘Baihua Binfen,’ Xin Mang. I am here because someone wishes to learn the Blood Lion’s martial arts, and I have brought him here.”

Xin Mang announced her credentials, and the elderly voice replied from behind the door:

“Indeed rare. Nowadays, to have someone come for this purpose. Very well, I will report to the Family Head. Please wait outside the door a bit longer.”

After speaking, the crack in the door fully closed, leaving Yang Yu and his companions waiting outside.

Xin Mang leaned closer to Yang Yu and whispered,

“Just to be clear beforehand, in front of the Blood Lion Clan, you must not exhibit any extreme behavior. Even if ultimately rejected, you have to leave calmly.”

“Just now you spoke so confidently, yet before you even begin, you’re backing down.”

“It is you who said it would take just half a day to learn.

I can only introduce you, whether or not you can learn depends on your skill.

I’m just reminding you, if you can’t learn it, don’t rage helplessly.”

Xin Mang folded her arms discontentedly.

“The Blood Lion Clan detests those who quit halfway. Regardless of the reason, if you stop your training midway, you’ll never have another chance to be taught by them.

This, I must remind you thoroughly.”

“I won’t give up easily. Rather than this, you better tell me something more practical.”

Yang Yu naturally transitioned the topic,

“Do you know the combat pattern of the Blood Lion Clan? What should I pay attention to if I want to learn skills from them? Are there any trials or such?”

“Before the war, the Blood Lion Clan operated a Daoist School. General skills could be learned there, and, as far as I know, there were very few skills that couldn’t be learned or that were not taught to outsiders.

However, not everyone can enter the Daoist School to train; that depends on your qualifications. Someone will test you.”

Xin Mang replied somewhat nostalgically,

“As for the attack pattern of the Blood Lion, three words: fast, accurate, and fierce. A moment of relaxation could instantly decide the outcome.

Battling them, I think having no strategy is the best strategy. Instead of fretting over how to defeat them, it’s better to observe how they fight during combat to learn quite a bit.”

Faced with Xin Mang’s optimistic suggestion, Yang Yu slightly furrowed his brows. Fast, accurate, fierce—he could achieve that too if his attribute values were high enough.

What’s important is how the Blood Lion achieves these three characteristics, what techniques they use, and how they connect different skills, and whether they have any special abilities.

Yang Yu was here to learn skills.

In the game, the conditions to learn special skills varied: some required running through maps to collect materials, some required undertaking challenges, and others needed completing specific tasks or finding specific NPCs.

Previously, the skills Yang Yu acquired for Bai Jin, like “Ghost Shadow Formation,” required a lot of rare materials, which the financially capable Yang Yu had resolved quickly without having to run around the map.

According to Xin Mang’s description, to acquire skills from the Blood Lion, they needed to see if he had the qualifications.

And, as expected, the method to test whether someone had the qualifications to learn skills was through combat.

Most combats would naturally become a threshold, filtering out the unqualified players.

How high the threshold of the Blood Lion was could only be known by actually encountering it.

It was not long before the huge red wooden door made a booming sound again, but this time, the red wooden door did not crack open a slit, instead, it swung wide open as if welcoming their arrival.

At the doorway stood a lean old man, hunched with a stature less than one meter fifty, leaning on a crooked black cane, with yellow mane extending from the top of his head, encircling his neck, slightly whitened due to old age.

His eyes were squinted, resembling a lion in its twilight years, its majesty gone but still captivating.

Opening the panel, Yang Yu confirmed that this old man was Grandpa Tong He, as Xin Mang had just mentioned. Hard to imagine, such an old man had shown that kind of look just a moment ago, but the voice that rang out again forced Yang Yu to accept,

“The Family Head allows you to enter, if you seek knowledge in martial arts, please come inside to discuss.”

“Thank you, Grandpa Tong He.”

Grateful that Grandpa Tong He granted this convenience, Xin Mang entered the Blood Lion Mansion as if walking into his own backyard.

Yang Yu patted Lotcar’s shoulder, signaling him not to show any hostility, and then, under the old man’s watchful eyes, they both entered the Blood Lion Mansion.

After Yang Yu and the others entered, Grandpa Tong He slowly closed the heavy door and casually walked to the very front of Yang Yu’s group to lead the way.

Inside the Blood Lion Mansion, a whole plain could be seen.

The plain was dotted with straight tree trunks, on which hung red lanterns illuminating the plain enveloped by the dark night.

From the grandeur of the outside gate, it was hard to imagine that the interior would look like this.

To have such a plain within the grounds of Baihua City required immense financial and political power.
