Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 565: Chapter 565: The Past of the Elf Queen

Every word Yang Yu spoke was loud and clear, not in the least bit shaken by Ailena’s roar.

If asked whether Yang Yu was afraid of the Queen’s impotent rage venting on him,

Yang Yu would say he was not panicked at all, the worst-case scenario being getting beaten up by the Queen’s Personal Guard and then thrown out of the Elf Forest.

Now, Yang Yu had seized a tremendous opportunity, and as long as he didn’t die, he was willing to accept such risks.

After realizing the downsides of Ailena’s approach, Yang Yu had thought about revealing her thoughts immediately, but considering the Elf Queen had been high and mighty, maintaining this policy for around three hundred years, it was highly probable she would not shed tears before seeing the coffin.

After much thought, Yang Yu decided that when he went to pick up Bai Jin and Iyas, he would incidentally plant an unresolved seed in the Elf Queen’s heart. When he returned to delve into the relationship between Elf and Goddess, he would then discuss it with the Elf Queen in depth and with simplicity.

But the current situation no longer allowed for a leisurely pace.

The fact that the Curse Sect had infiltrated Wansheng Country so deeply demonstrated that if they decided to escape, no place would be out of their reach. Once they made a serious move and mobilized their full force, not even a deity could save them.

It’s not like he could enter a mysterious code and unleash an invincible mode, right?

Allying with a race that shared a common enemy was ultimately not a bad thing for future actions.

”Fear of seeing familiar faces disappear before your eyes again, fear of becoming lonely once more, has led you to adopt this policy to hold the elf race hostage and keep them from striving for better. That is your tyranny,”

he said as he closed the book and took a few steps towards Ailena. She involuntarily recoiled, completely unaware that her smooth back was touching the cold throne.

”As a result, you see the situation as it is now.

The elves can’t even have their most basic needs met, like getting enough to eat.

This is what has made the elves reveal their true nature.

When we returned, can you imagine the disappointment of the people when they saw the Hunting Team returning empty-handed?

You know what will happen if things continue this way, I needn’t repeat myself,”

he said. Ailena’s fingernails dug deep into her palms, the events of last winter were still fresh in her mind.

At the end of winter, the food that had usually helped Luoyu City survive the cold had become precarious after a large influx of elves.

Emaiciated children, parents using violence for a morsel of food, and Hunting Teams that braved the snowstorm and never returned...

The memories of the past resurfaced, and Ailena gradually calmed down.

The situation had developed to a point where it was too late for her to have regrets.

To make the elves truly believe in the words she had spun, Ailena had always played the role of a good Queen who could empathize and care for the sentiments of all elves.

Along the way, she met with numerous obstacles, but to maintain her image, she persevered time after time.

The image of a good Queen gradually took root in people’s hearts.

Even if she was occasionally capricious, the elves would undoubtedly choose to believe in her at critical moments.

Ailena was quite aware of the plight faced by the Elf Clan.

Contrary to many elves’ wishes, bringing Yang Yu here had elicited reactions from the elf citizens, which she too had observed.

If it had been before, no elf would question her decisions, and there wouldn’t have been any need for the Personal Guard to get involved.

Nobody wanted to become the sacrifice in a shortage of food.

In just over a year, so many things had happened, and unease and fear had already taken root and sprouted among the people, spreading far faster than Ailena had anticipated due to their simplicity.

Ailena had no idea what to do; even with all her effort, she couldn’t find a way to dispel the fears and anxieties of the elves. She was even less capable of deceiving her people with vague and elusive promises to achieve temporary peace.

”If it were the past Queen, she would definitely do better.”

Seeing that Ailena was slow to respond, Yang Yu voiced her inner thoughts,

”Queen, you must be thinking this right now, aren’t you?

To rely excessively on old acquaintances to solve problems, that is a failure as a Queen. I believe, if the previous Queen were really here, she would never offer any advice to you.

If you, Queen, now seek advice, I’m ready to offer it.

Whether you accept it or not is your choice, how you act, and the consequences it brings, are all for you, the Queen, to bear.

I want to know if the current Queen is ready to listen to my suggestions and make a decision.

If not, or if you intend to dismiss it after a cursory listen, already having your own ideas, then there’s no need for me to waste my breath.

Queen,

I ask you once more, are you prepared to listen?”

Ailena’s brow was furrowed, but her thoughts were crystal clear; she wanted to resolve the crisis at hand, and even if she were to lose her title as Queen, she wished to ensure the safety of the other elves.

She didn’t know what she looked like in Yang Yu’s eyes; probably an ungracious ruler, a buffoon, weaving beautiful myths just so the elves could remain in Elf Forest and endure through the generations, a person of selfish desires.

Though Yang Yu had always ridiculed her coldly and sarcastically, every point he made hit home.

Perhaps if he were in her position, he might be able to find a better solution.

Suddenly, Ailena was reminded of Queen Mingtu Saiqiu’s voice and smile as her image appeared before her eyes. That person seemed to always have an endless supply of stories, never stopping as she talked to a young Ailena.

The young Ailena had also once dreamed of the outside world and had traveled many places following their Queen.

Until...

The Angel who came to escort them to the Goddess arrived, and Ailena believed that the excellent Queen Mingtu Saiqiu was not chosen; instead, the chosen ones were five elves who had never left their village.

That was the beginning of Ailena’s belief that ”staying and leading a good life in the village, one could be chosen by the Goddess.”

Ailena also knew how absurd this notion was; many elves yearned for a life outside, while some would stay in the village their entire life, dying in its defense.

Throughout the years, until the era of Mingtu Saiqiu, the myth of growing wings came true.

Queen Mingtu Saiqiu was not chosen, something that Ailena always dwelled on, beginning to practice that slightly ridiculous theory.

Mingtu Saiqiu, however, let go of the matter surprisingly quickly.

Years later, when Hero Lox came knocking, Queen Mingtu Saiqiu nonchalantly appointed Ailena as Queen Candidate and then joined the Hero’s team on behalf of the Elf Clan, becoming the Priest of the Hero’s group.

Ailena didn’t quite remember the details of that time.

The only thing she remembered was that the heroes of the past were also as youthful as the man before her now.

Ailena couldn’t believe that someone like that could save them from the Demon King.

Yet the Hero truly defeated the Demon King, saving the world.

The stories from Queen Mingtu Saiqiu’s mouth were also revised, now boasting of her and the Hero’s adventures.
