Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 445: Chapter 445 Burned to the Ground

”Splitting up is rather inconvenient,” Yang Yu finally agreed that everyone should stay.

Yang Yu demanded that they must follow his arrangements and not cause him any troubles. Otherwise, he would pick them up like kittens and kick them out.

Qing Shi and Hake were naturally overjoyed, only Lotcar inadvertently frowned, as Yang Yu and the others had to fight, it naturally fell on him to take care of the ordinary duo.

Having simply agreed on the rules, He Meng crawled within the poison-flecked circular space, detoxifying and clearing a path.

Approaching the web-covered passage entrance, Yang Yu took out a torch and set ablaze the layers of spider silk.

The pristine spider silk swiftly withered and decayed in the flames, giving off plumes of smoke.

The poison adhered to the spider silk turned into purple smoke with the flames.

This toxin was not a normal biological poison but a magic poison that disrupted a person’s magical veins and subsequently affected their body.

Fortunately, once the magic poison was vaporized, unless controlled by someone, it would not linger in the air for long.

Bai Jin used the Fireball Technique to burn it away, and soon, the vaporized toxin disappeared without a trace.

The flames born from the threads extended along the passage indoors, and Yang Yu followed the burning flames deeper into the passage.

For safety, He Meng, who could immunize against abnormal statuses, took the lead in the team. If poison came their way, she could quickly spread her body to block the passage entrance and prevent them from being engulfed by the poison liquid.

However, the flames did not extend all the way to the true den of the Mother Spider.

Near the staircase to the third floor, the white threads seemed as though they were completely snapped by something, stopping abruptly.

Using the dwindling light from the burned threads, Yang Yu cast his gaze down the dark staircase that extended level by level downwards.

With careful observation, traces of white spider silk could be seen clinging to either side of the staircase; it was very likely that the Mother Spider had swept away all the nearby threads in an explosion.

Yang Yu threw a stone into the empty staircase; the crisp sound continuously reached Yang Yu’s ears, the staircase seemed bottomless.

Raising the torch again, Yang Yu resolved to continue forward.

Before moving on, he left Lotcar, Qing Shi, and Hake at the staircase entrance and instructed Lotcar to do his best to take down any spider that tried to escape.

If necessary, even at the risk of poisoning, those spiders had to be completely eradicated.

Yang Yu had only two bottles of antidote in his hands; in this Underground Maze, he could only afford to make mistakes twice.

Considering the possibility that the Mother Spider might escape and wreak havoc made it necessary for Lotcar to prevent the spiders’ escape at all costs.

Thus, Yang Yu tossed one of the antidote bottles to Qing Shi, telling him to use it based on the situation.

Though they had not yet truly encountered the Spider Mother, Yang Yu was already considering many things.

Foremost among these was the possibility of the Mother Spider using threads to control others.

Lacking samples, Yang Yu could not ascertain what conditions would need to be met for the spider to control a person.

It could be that merely having threads wrapped around a person would suffice to control them.

This was the worst-case scenario he considered.

Preparing for the worst was Yang Yu’s usual approach.

Assuming the threads could indeed directly control a person, they must completely sever them before they arrived—to prevent internal strife.

To determine the position of the threads, Iyas’s Holy Light was indispensable.

Unless it was a situation only Iyas could resolve, Yang Yu would not allow Iyas to change her role and actually become a bright shining light bulb.

After a very long staircase, Yang Yu and the others finally saw a glimmer of light at the end of the darkness, like starlight.

This path was incredibly smooth, and along the way, they didn’t encounter any spiders or attacks.

And this seemed like the calm before the storm. In the unknown third layer, the Mother Spider that had just conversed with them might have already made preparations, waiting for them for a long time.

Having given several clovers, Yang Yu had He Meng be the first to pass through the passageway and reach the third layer.

Opening the panel, Yang Yu monitored He Meng’s status attributes.

Now, He Meng, with an extremely high defense attribute and increased speed thanks to Yang Yu, was incredibly fast and could handle most situations.

As a Royal Slime, she was unlikely to be easily defeated by other demons.

If the Mother Spider could indeed cause effective damage to He Meng, they would have to reconsider their strategy for conquering the Mother Spider.

After a long wait, He Meng emerged from the third layer as if nothing had happened.

She tried her best to use her body to clarify what was inside.

However, Yang Yu couldn’t totally sync with He Meng’s intentions and didn’t know what she was trying to convey with her gestures.

Yang Yu merely guessed that the third layer was wide and large. The Mother Spider had webbed up the entrance to the fourth layer and hadn’t launched any attacks on He Meng, just quietly waiting for Yang Yu and his team to arrive.

”Is it finally time for the boss battle?”

Taking a deep breath, Yang Yu lead his team resolutely into the third layer.

The third layer was a huge square space, the floor comprised of countless black and white square tiles, some of which had black or white knight statues on them.

Through the system panel, it was visible that these statues had empty blood bars, and these knights were also monsters of the Underground Maze.

The knights’ blood bars were slowly recovering. It wasn’t hard to imagine that once the blood bars were fully restored, these knight statues would come to life again.

Upon closer inspection, each knight’s helmet was different, embracing figures like kings, queens, pawns, knights, and rooks, making this space obviously a chessboard.

A Mother Spider as large as Lotcar sat in the position of the queen facing Yang Yu.

”You finally, still came.”

With sharp fangs trembling, the Mother Spider made a sharp sound,

”Once you’ve come here, you no longer have the chance to leave; the entire Underground Maze has been sealed.”

”Sealed? What exactly is going on?”

Zhang Yu and the enormous Mother Spider faced each other, only to hear the Mother Spider hiss with laughter,

”If you want to know, go ask the owner of this maze. You decided to enter this Underground Maze upon hearing that voice, didn’t you?

You are just as foolish as that group.

To this date, I still can’t forget the despair on those people’s faces when they realized they couldn’t escape this Underground Maze.

You’ll probably show the same expression as them.”
