Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 442: Chapter 442: Inside the Spider Web

From the conversation just now, Yang Yu gathered quite a bit of information.

First and foremost, the spider was not a creature native to this place, and it seemed to have caused some trouble for the Guardian of the Underground Maze.

However, Yang Yu hadn’t expected that the Guardian of the Underground Maze would so directly order them to drive out all the invading spiders.

This was clearly a case of using them under the guise of a trial, treating them like mere tools, and doing so quite blatantly.

Yang Yu was livid and thought to himself, if you’re going to use me as a tool man, at least be a bit more subtle about it.

Even though he knew the Guardian of the Underground Maze was treating him as a tool man, Yang Yu felt helpless.

After all, this was the Guardian’s domain, and they could only successfully complete their strategy if it aligned with the Guardian’s wishes.

Yang Yu spoke with righteous indignation, ”We’re here precisely for that spider. One of us has a father who was bitten by the spider. Only by capturing that spider can we create the Antidote.

Once we’ve made it, we will clean up the other spiders as a side task.

Being able to evolve a toxin in such a short time and claim this Underground Maze suggests there might be someone else pulling the strings.”

There was no further response to Yang Yu’s words, and his face briefly revealed a smile to cover a moment of embarrassment.

By his side, Bai Jin tried to feel the Magic Power around them, and she was surprised at its abundance,

”The Magic Power here is very abundant, more so than anywhere I’ve been before. Using magic normally, as I did in the past, will not be a problem. Even more, as soon as a Magic Array is constructed, the Magic Power will naturally gather.

I have a feeling that using magic here will be smoother than before.”

”That’s indeed great news,” Yang Yu said, stuffing the Potions he just retrieved from the System back in, ”Your magic is very important in dealing with those spiders.

In the desert, where there’s hardly any Magic Flow, everyone’s Magic Power, including mine, recovers very slowly.

I was planning to prepare some Potions for you if you couldn’t use magic normally, to replenish your Magic Power so you could use magic in a crisis.

But since you can use magic normally now, it’s best to use Potions sparingly. Becoming dependent on them can be quite troublesome.”

After a brief rest, Yang Yu took out some materials and made a torch for Bai Jin to ignite with the Fireball Technique.

Yang Yu stood at the forefront with the torch. Logically speaking, spiders are extremely afraid of fire, and even Magic Beasts should be no exception.

If the spiders shot webs, Yang Yu could also use the torch to burn them off in time for defense.

If that didn’t work, Yang Yu could throw away the torch to distract the spiders and create an opportunity to attack.

The walls surrounding the Underground Maze were pure and transparent, allowing the firelight to penetrate through the walls and illuminate another path.

The ceiling of the first level was a deep black, embedded with twinkling stars. The serene starlight illuminated the corridors.

Each maze is different, but such construction also follows basic principles.

The transparent walls greatly facilitated Yang Yu’s progress, preventing them from being ambushed by the lurking Black-footed Mother Spiders.

But as it turned out, they had been overly cautious.

Continuing cautiously along the corridor, Yang Yu and his group had walked for quite a while. They hadn’t encountered a single monster, nor had they spotted any Black-footed Mother Spiders. However, they did come across plenty of abandoned treasures.

Monsters on the first level of the Underground Maze generally weren’t very powerful; ordinary Level B and C adventurers could handle them on their own.

Having defeated them but not taken their loot was not typical adventurer behavior. It was highly likely, just as the Guardian of the Maze had said, that the spiders had defeated the creatures of the Underground Maze.

Their purpose was to ensure that even the weakest of their younglings could safely reach the next level and find their mother.

After all, the Black-footed Mother Spider that had been hiding in the mouth of the Desert Golden Python was merely Level 3. If there were monsters immune to abnormal statuses on the first level, such weak spiderlings would undoubtedly be squashed.

Dealing with the problem in advance, preventing larger creatures from harming their younglings, was indeed a wise choice.

Having scoured the first level without catching sight of the Mother Spider, Yang Yu and his companions headed straight to the second level.

If everything was as that voice had claimed, and the Mother Spider’s activities were confined to the first three levels of the Underground Maze, then it wouldn’t be long before the mother leading those spiderlings would truly appear before them.

Starting from the second level of the Underground Maze, the walls were the same color as the platform outside, and it was impossible to see clearly what might be inside the tunnels.

The glow of a torch illuminated the passageway, concealing the starlight on the ceiling. Yang Yu and his group moved cautiously.

Iyas’s bowstring was taut at every moment, fearing that a Mother Spider might pounce out at the next corner. Bai Jin was also ready, with the pure white Magic Array at the end of her Magic Wand absorbing surrounding Magic Power. Should a Mother Spider burst unexpectedly from the cave, Bai Jin was confident that she could instantly erect an ice wall with her magic to block the spider’s assault.

Yet, after a lengthy trek, they found no trace of the Mother Spider. Just like that, they came to a spacious, cylindrical space.

The other exit of this space was sealed shut by a white web. That was the evidence of spider activity that Yang Yu and his companions had long sought.

Black-footed Mother Spiders were extremely precious about their silk.

In the vast desert, a little more strength meant a bit more hope for survival. The silk was woven from the spiders’ own protein and magic power, and they would usually consume unused silk to transform it back into usable protein and magic power.

Regardless of age, these spiders had an instinct for frugality and conservation.

The fact that they used so much silk to seal off that entrance indicated how much they valued its safety.

Perhaps with that mass of silk serving as a boundary line, the world on this side and the world on that side had become completely different.

Before Yang Yu could approach the webs, intent on burning them down, a middle-aged woman’s voice emerged from beyond the webs,

”Don’t go any further.”

Yang Yu stopped in his tracks and looked toward the web, questioning, ”Who are you, and why shouldn’t we go any further?”

”If you continue on, you might die. However, if you leave now, I can overlook the harm you’ve done to my children.”

The identity of the one on the other side was self-evident from this reply. Since the other party had initiated contact, it was worth probing,

”Are you the Mother Spider guarding this place? It’s not as simple as just looking for a den, is it? Can you tell me who sent you here?”

Silence ensued from the other side. Then an extremely graceful figure appeared behind the webs. She placed her hand on the silk, and through the barrier of the web, an apologetic voice came through once again,

”I am so sorry. After I acquired this power, I made a promise to him that I would never reveal any information about him.”
