Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Your IQ Is Indeed Insufficient

”What in the world is going on? How did he suddenly disappear?”

Iyas banged hard on the wall, and the chilly touch of her hands was perfectly normal—the wall in front of her genuinely existed.

”Bai Jin, aren’t you worried at all? Yang Yu just passed through the wall like that...”

”I think there’s no need to worry. The underground city is already filled with various strange legends, like treasure boxes that devour people, mysterious staircases that never end, and female monsters that seduce men...”

Though she claimed there was no need for concern, Bai Jin’s expression was greatly unsettled, especially at the thought of female monsters that seduce men, leaving her eyes filled with chaos.

Indulging in the beauty of women is the beginning of a man’s downfall!

Swinging her magic wand unsteadily, Bai Jin let out a sinister laugh,

”The underground city was built with a kind of magical magic, which can also explain why the walls and ceiling glow. If it’s constructed by some sort of magic, just Attack it, understand its weakness, find its pattern... and it can easily be destroyed.”

Halfway through speaking, Bai Jin seemed to suddenly realize something. The sinister smile vanished from her face, and she ran into the underground city without looking back.

”Hey! Why are you suddenly running!”

Iyas ran after Bai Jin, but not long after, Bai Jin turned back and ran to the wall. This peculiar act left Iyas utterly perplexed.

”Did you discover something?”

Bai Jin didn’t respond but merely moved closer to the wall and, just like Yang Yu, placed her hand against the wall and then her entire body passed through it.

Iyas was shocked and reached out to grasp Bai Jin’s long robe, but she was a moment too late, and her hands touched only the cold wall.

”Hey? What? WHAT?!!! What in the world is going on! Why are you guys disappearing one by one without explaining anything to me!”

With no outlet for her frustration, Iyas drew her bows and arrows, nocked an arrow, and fired at the wall. The hard wall deflected the first arrow. Iyas fired several arrows in succession, but the wall seemed indestructible, repelling all her arrows.

Gradually, the hand pulling the bow and arrows slowed, and her heart felt an indescribable sensation.

It was as if she were no longer needed by anyone, completely abandoned.

Iyas hung her head low, drew her bow, and haphazardly shot an arrow at the bottom right corner of the wall.

”Damn, I took an arrow in the knee.”

At the sound of the familiar voice, Iyas lifted her head to see Yang Yu emerging completely from the wall, painfully pulling her arrow out of his knee.

Following him was Bai Jin, looking at the scattered arrows and the concerned Iyas with an apologetic expression on her face.

Iyas strode toward them, tears brimming in her eyes, and shouted loudly, ”Why did you two suddenly disappear without a word! Do you have any idea how worried I was?”

”I told you, don’t get surprised by any weird things that happen, stay calm. If you think about it for a moment, anyone can understand the principle,” Yang Yu glared at Iyas. Unprepared, he took an arrow to the knee, and it still hurt at the moment, ”Even if you don’t understand, if you just copied what we did, wouldn’t you have been able to keep up with us?”

”You could have told me sooner! If you had just told me to follow you, it wouldn’t have taken much time!” Iyas crossed her arms angrily.

”That way, you would understand the underlying principle more clearly. It seems that I have overestimated you; your intelligence really isn’t cut out for this...” Yang Yu shook his head, ”Bai Jin understood quickly, but there you were, furiously shooting arrows to no avail. Who in their right mind shoots arrows at walls? And don’t forget, I bought all the arrows you’re carrying. Isn’t it shameful to waste them like this?”

”Talking like that makes me seem like a complete fool.” Facing Yang Yu’s reproach, Iyas pouted unhappily and put away her bow, ”What in the world is really going on here?”

”Why don’t you just try it and see?”

Yang Yu sighed wearily and, together with Bai Jin and Iyas, entered the underground city. They stopped at a crossroads, then led the team back the way they came.

To Iyas’s surprise, the passage that had disappeared before reappeared before her eyes.

”What on earth is going on here?”

Why had a wall turned into a passage? That’s not scientific!

”You go in first this time, turn around after you pass that corner,” Yang Yu urged, pushing on Iyas’s back.

Iyas wobbled into the passage, then turned around.

She saw Yang Yu’s mouth opening and closing but couldn’t make out any sound. Yang Yu even took out a drum and banged on it. She mimicked Bai Jin by covering her ears, but in fact, she didn’t hear a sound.

”What on earth is going on?”

Iyas looked bewildered, clueless about what was happening; she even thought that Yang Yu and Bai Jin were playing a prank on her.

”It seems you still haven’t figured out what’s happening,” Yang Yu said as he walked into the passage with Bai Jin. His voice reached Iyas’s ears once more, ”Once we enter the passage, we are essentially completely isolated from the third level.”

Iyas tilted her head.

Yang Yu explained patiently, ”Imagine a closed room with a live cat and a bottle of poison inside. There’s a mechanism on the door, and when the door opens, the mechanism will break the bottle, and the cat will die from the poison.

Upon opening the door, common sense tells us the cat may be either dead or alive. There exists an intermediate state where the cat is neither dead nor alive until an observer discovers it.

As we keep walking deeper into the maze, it’s like we’re lingering outside the room, the cat still alive. As we slowly walk back, it is akin to us gently opening the door, the cat in a state of being half-dead and not completely dead. Once we reach the very end, it’s as if we’ve flung the room’s door wide open, letting the cat die completely.”

Yang Yu felt his analogy was precise enough, but Iyas still looked utterly lost, with a ”I have no idea what you’re talking about” expression.

”Is it too difficult for a country girl to understand a maze likened to ’Schrödinger’s cat’?” Yang Yu rubbed his forehead. ”To put it simply, you can think of this level as a superposition of the third and fourth levels.

When we first came in, we were on the third level, and we could find a way to open and enter the fourth level. That motion of turning back is the way to the fourth level.

Since the third and fourth levels are separated, our voices are on the third level, which naturally you, being on the fourth level, can’t hear.

With that, do you understand a lot more now?”

”Now that you mention it like that, it seems like I get it,” Iyas said, looking like she finally understood. Then she asked, ”But why couldn’t I hear you when we were on the same level just now?”

...

Yang Yu was speechless.

MMP, it seems like all I just explained was for nothing.

”Forget it, just remember the conclusion I just explained. We are now on the ’fourth level,’ which symbolizes Death. Here on this fourth level, we need to follow the clues to find the incarnation of ’Death,’ which is the Blue Ghost Calugada mentioned, obtain the ’Power of Death’ from it, then return to the third level to defeat the mini-boss of this level and to meet the real boss.”

”Why does it feel like what you’re saying has suddenly become complicated again?” Iyas furrowed her brow. ”Can’t you make it simpler?”

Yang Yu rolled his eyes at Iyas and simply laughed without speaking.
