Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: The Rule-Breaking Tamer

Staring in the direction of Tico’s departure, Yang Yu narrowed his eyes.

Tico Mith Titra.

Undoubtedly, she was bound to be one of the most promising seed players for the Dragon God Conference. Before the conference began, it was imperative to find a way to defeat her and to investigate other geniuses likely to attend. It would be best to meet them in person, so a flawless plan to obtain the essence of the Dragon Clan could be formulated.

Enhancing his own strength was also exceedingly necessary.

To stack attributes like Tico’s, relying solely on leveling up would require a start from at least level 400. Regardless of whether or not this world has a real level cap, as the level increased, Experience Value was sure to become increasingly difficult to obtain. In the late stage, it wouldn’t be unusual to not level up for half a month.

Even if it were possible to reach level 400 in two years, Yang Yu couldn’t guarantee that Tico wouldn’t make any progress in that time, that she would simply mark time. Perhaps, with a fan like himself, she might become even more motivated to improve.

If he could find tasks similar to ”Farming,” he would be able to gain a considerable amount of Skill Points and free attribute points, which was another reliable method of becoming stronger.

The problem was that tasks like ”Farming” were sporadic opportunities, and within two years, Yang Yu didn’t know how many he could find.

Another way to become stronger was to acquire a large number of quality skills. Sometimes, a single excellent skill could be more beneficial than hundreds of free attribute points.

Every skill Yang Yu currently possessed was of exceptional quality, but that still wasn’t enough.

If possible, Yang Yu hoped to construct his own set of ”Absolute Defense.”

Following up ”[Shield Block]” with ”[Shield Counter],” with only a small amount of damage endured, he could block two consecutive melee Physical Attacks. If he could find other skills capable of blocking melee Physical Attacks, he would be able to chain them together to block the third, fourth attacks... repeating this cycle, he could continuously fend off all Physical Attacks.

But this was certainly no simple feat. It was necessary to calculate the cooldown of each skill precisely, considering the Blue Consumption and the initial action of each skill. The operator must also reduce the margin for error to a minimum. One mistake could render the entire operation worthless.

Additionally, Physical Skills and Magic Skills had to be calculated separately, meaning at least two sets of ”Absolute Defense” strategies were required.

A plethora of skills also meant a need for an abundance of Skill Points and money.

Leveling up, tasks, skills—no matter which path, none were easy to tread. In the end, Yang Yu decided to pursue all three simultaneously, achieving as much improvement as he could. As long as the gap wasn’t too vast, he could still find a way to win.

Uh...

My palm really hurts.

Snapping back to reality from his thoughts, Yang Yu noticed Bai Jin holding his right hand, tightly pinching the center of his palm with a sullen look on her face.

”Why are you so adept at this? Why can you always speak those words without blushing or skipping a beat! Do you plan to lure that child into our team as well?

Hehehe—

I can already see my future. You’ll recruit that girl into our team, gradually make her take over my place, leaving me with nowhere to stand, and then kick me out...”

As she spoke, Bai Jin’s voice became increasingly softer, the strength in her grip on Yang Yu’s palm also gradually faded. Compared to her, the girl named Tico excelled in every aspect. It wasn’t impossible that one day, Yang Yu would add her to the team, and then...

”Everything I just said was improvised. If it weren’t for a dumb elf who didn’t understand my meaning right away, I wouldn’t have said all that to her. At most, I would’ve just greeted her normally.”

Since he was unsure of her character and didn’t like to apologize by kneeling, Yang Yu had acted out that scene instinctively.

If her attributes weren’t much higher than his, Yang Yu wouldn’t bother putting on an act; he’d just fight her directly. Whomever won would call the shots.

”Hey! Who are you calling a dumb elf! I already told you, if you had made things clear at the start, this wouldn’t have happened.”

Ignoring the noisy Iyas, Yang Yu said to Bai Jin with a smile, ”Moreover, it’s more interesting when such a person becomes your opponent. Don’t worry, as long as you stay on my team, I’ll eventually make it possible for you to compete with geniuses like her.”

Her eyes brimming with an indescribable sense of ease, Bai Jin let go of her hand and a smile appeared on her face.

”You better keep your word.”

”Of course, who do you think I am? Cut the nonsense and get ready to take on the monsters in the underground city. Just do as I taught you before, follow my instructions. And Iyas, don’t mess around, this is not just a simple hunt!”

”I won’t mess around, but you need to know your limits too, hand it over to me when you can’t handle it!”

Watching Iyas’s inexplicable confidence, Yang Yu couldn’t help but feel a bit uneasy, and after repeating his requirements a few more times, he slowly led the team towards the entrance of the underground city.

As soon as he stepped onto the mud-covered steps, the familiar system voice echoed in Yang Yu’s ear once again.

[In this world, there exist various wonders, some are the work of nature’s ghostly craftsmen, while others are the crystallized wisdom of intelligent races. The mysterious underground cities found around the world are the crystallized wisdom of some intelligent races. To obtain the treasures they left behind, one must conquer the labyrinths according to their rules.

But is this compliance really a good thing?

Defeating monsters for their wealth can make people lose their minds, becoming increasingly unscrupulous for the sake of riches, even turning their swords on their own teammates.

You are now formally encountering the underground city, and your heart has already told you what to do:

1. Regardless of the significance of the existence of the underground city, if you can get treasures by following the rules, then conquer it.

2. The existence of the underground city is evil in itself, whether it’s the ferocious monsters inside or the tempting treasures. Only by burying it all can the world move towards true civilization.

3. Wonders will be wonders! All these aren’t important. What’s important is whether you can take the treasures of the underground city for yourself.

4. The underground city is truly magical, its layered structure fully utilizing space. If every layer were to be planted with vegetables and fruits, wouldn’t that rake in a fortune?

Choice time limit: five minutes.]

To think a maze strategy would ask me to turn the maze into a verdant farmland. Later when I enter a high-rise building, are you going to tell me to build terraced fields from the rooftop down?

Right, eliminate the Farming option first.

Now let’s analyze the other three options.

First is option two, destroy the underground city and lead the world towards civilization. It sounds like a super righteous choice, but Yang Yu never considered himself super righteous—besides, if you blow up the whole underground city, how would you level up? You would have to wait until you’ve reached a high enough level before blowing it up.

That leaves two... Options one and three may look similar at first glance, but the real difference lies in ”following the rules to conquer the underground city.”

Meaning, if there were unconventional tactics to conquer the underground city, choosing the first option would mean sticking to the designated methods of conquering the city...

Hmm—

Isn’t the choice obvious?

Upon selecting the option, Yang Yu’s panel popped up with a new Task.

[Task: [The Unconventional Tamer]

Task requirements: Use unconventional means to conquer ten underground cities [0/10]

Task reward: Experience ??? (determined by the quality of the conquered underground city), lottery draw ten times (all Rare or above quality), Title: Maze Rule Breaker (The man who makes the underground cities quake, when conquering dungeons, team damage +10%, experience +10%)]
