Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 85: Chapter 85 Don’t say, I understand

”Why do you look at me like that?” Faced with Bai Jin’s grim gaze, Iyas seemed to want to release all the anger in her heart, glaring fiercely at Yang Yu, ”He was the one you introduced, and if there’s a price to pay, you should ask him for it. Besides, I have no interest in the underground city. I only care about when I can find my brother.”

Hearing this, Yang Yu shook his head helplessly.

You might not want to know, but I do!

Now, in front of Iyas, Yang Yu was playing the role of an all-knowing mentor. This way, he could earn Iyas’s respect and make her fully trust in his reform plan, to become an excellent Priest.

To say he didn’t know about the underground city setting would quickly shatter Iyas’s illusion, which would not be conducive to the training plan later.

It was like children who, during Christmas, expect Santa Claus to illegally enter their home in the middle of the night to put gifts in their stockings, only to wake up and see their father, a big man picking at his feet, placing the prepared gifts in their stockings. The shattering of ideals often happens in just an instant.

A marginally better outcome might be that the child acts out for a while, but worse, the child might become rebellious and turn into a bad teenager.

This was the first time Yang Yu had experienced this kind of parental pain, and he suddenly developed a profound respect for parents who always managed to appear like good fathers and mothers to their children.

Who knows whether the father who tells you not to play games every day, and who never plays them in front of you, might secretly be reaching higher ranks behind your back.

”Iyas, the journey to find your brother is even harder than you imagine. If you want to rescue your brother, increasing your strength is necessary. The underground city is full of monsters and is an excellent training ground, with a lot of valuable equipment that can greatly enhance combat power. If you don’t want to increase your power, that’s fine too. Just if the rescue of your brother fails, then, don’t regret it.”

Iyas went silent.

After thinking it through, what Yang Yu said did make some sense. Even she couldn’t deal with those blinded by self-interest, so their concerns were quite justified.

Thus, filled with curiosity, Iyas looked towards Bai Jin beside her.

Her first impression of Bai Jin was not good.

It wasn’t her appearance that was problematic, but something intrinsically ominous.

Even though Bai Jin’s hair was messy and she didn’t dress like a typical girl, glimpsing her occasionally revealed face from under the unruly hair, Iyas noticed that Bai Jin wasn’t that unattractive, and could even reach average standards if she spruced up a bit.

Despite realizing this, Iyas still felt something ominous emanating from Bai Jin, like a natural repulsion between light and darkness.

It took quite some time for Iyas to reluctantly adapt to this feeling of repulsion.

And it seemed Bai Jin felt the same kind of repulsion but chose not to adapt to it, instead following her feelings further.

Since they would be together for a significant period in the future, she hoped Bai Jin would notice this sooner rather than later, and stop looking at her with that somewhat... jealous? Envious? Bewildered?... gaze.

...Hm?

Upon reflecting further, Iyas realized Bai Jin had never actually looked at her with dislike, which puzzled her slightly,

”Alright! Bai Jin, in order to successfully rescue my brother Hake, I hope you can tell me something about the underground city. Whatever price you want from me, just say it. As long as I can handle it, I will try to meet your demands.”

Bai Jin remained silent, slowly gripping her Magic Wand tighter, her gaze unintentionally drifting towards the necklace on Iyas’s chest.

Yang Yu, who saw this scene, immediately understood Bai Jin’s thoughts.

”Don’t say it; I understand.”

Bai Jin was definitely jealous!

It had been some time since the battle against the Goblin King, and I had switched my sword for one made in Slarate. Just after a hearty meal, I had gone out to get Iyas a bow and arrows along with some other equipment, also casually buying a few shields as a precaution, but had not gotten any new equipment for Bai Jin.

Seeing us dressed in new equipment, Bai Jin must have felt sour.

It wasn’t my fault, as a Magician’s equipment is inherently difficult to match.

Moreover, Bai Jin’s existing gear was not bad; it was hard to find better equipment for her, at most another accessory or two.

”Bai Jin, I will pay the cost. I just haven’t found the right one yet, but I will in the future. I’ll leave the underground city matters to you, but it’s getting late today, let’s head back to rest. We can talk more on the way tomorrow, it’ll help relieve the boredom of the journey.”

Hearing Yang Yu say this, Bai Jin became hesitant and didn’t reject Yang Yu, nodding her head slightly.

...

...

At that moment, in the All Things Library, within the Fifth Book Reading Room, an old man was riding a book over a meter wide, wandering between towering bookshelves, organizing the library’s books.

With a gentle wave of his hand, books took flight following his motion, settling into their designated spots.

His fluffy white hair and beard almost entirely covered his face, and his stooped figure appeared rather thin on the meter-wide book, which could even seat three people of his size.

If you looked down from above him, setting aside the obscure spells written on the book he was riding, you would certainly be captivated by the subtly visible horns beneath his dense white hair.

He too was once a victor at the Dragon God Conference.

When he received the Dragon Clan’s grace, his body underwent incredible changes, with two dragon horns, less than three centimeters each, emerging on his forehead, proof of his perfect alliance with the essence of the Dragon Clan.

He was born in a turbulent era and after winning the Dragon God Conference, various powers extended olive branches, all of which he declined, ultimately becoming a librarian at the All Things Library.

Now, his greatest joy was discussing knowledge every day with like-minded individuals, organizing the bookshelves, and teaching his beloved disciple.

Without warning, the Reading Room door was knocked upon, and the old man flicked his finger, causing the door to slightly ajar.

First to enter the Reading Room was a large blue Mage hat; beneath it was a slender young girl dressed in fine clothes, with silver-white hair casually draped over her shoulders, her expression indifferent, seemingly uninterested in anything.

She yawned greatly upon entering, rubbed her sleepy eyes, and lazily said to the elderly man among the shelves:

”Master, did you call for me?”

While arranging the shelves, the old man spoke: ”In the central part of Lati Dela Forest, it seems a new underground city has appeared; you need to check it out.”

The girl yawned widely, ”No problem. The day after tomorrow... no, tomorrow, once I’m awake, I’ll take a look. Should I just follow the usual procedures, Master?”

”Hmm. Greedy adventurers will save us a lot of trouble. We just need to watch how things unfold.”
