Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 81: Chapter 81 Go Wash the Dishes

To start the day right one must fill the stomach.

Before heading downstairs, Iyas had been earnestly pleading with Yang Yu to teach her how to blend in like an ordinary person, how to avoid drawing attention. He was so clever, he must have a solution.

Yang Yu indicated that what she wanted was a peach to eat.

In terms of appearance, Iyas was exceptionally dazzling. Even if she weren’t an elf, she’d still turn heads wherever she went.

The only way to avoid attention would be to either never see anyone again or to change her body completely, addressing the issue at its root.

After much thought, Yang Yu still gave the Race Disguise Necklace to Iyas, providing her some comfort. At least she could go downstairs and meet some people.

With the necklace on, Iyas nervously made her way downstairs and found that indeed, there were fewer eyes on her. Although there were still many glances cast her way, most were looks of appreciation — leaps and bounds better than being gawked at like an exotic animal.

Iyas quickly adapted.

Of course, Yang Yu wasn’t going to let Iyas off the hook so easily.

A producer’s fundamental job is to discover and utilize each shining point of an artist. As a top-level producer, the elves were a race that inspired fantasy. How could Yang Yu miss out on that?

A breathtaking plan was already fermenting in his belly.

As the sun had yet to set, Yang Yu found a spot in the dining area on the first floor and ordered a table full of culinary delights.

Faced with plates of delectable dishes with names unknown to her, Iyas was at a loss for words. In their village, such a rich variety of food was available only during special festivals.

Humans, on the other hand, had access to such feasts anytime they wanted. Without the need to hunt or gather, with just money, they could indulge. How unfair.

”Can such a small Gold Coin actually buy such a grand meal?”

Lifting it, Iyas stared at the rather small Gold Coin in her hand, brimming with doubt.

The answer was, of course, impossible.

Yang Yu narrowed his eyes; his plan had begun.

A stick in one hand and Candy in the other, harsh but simple and effective, was the best method of education.

If Iyas was to truly understand the value of money, the best way was to let her taste the sweetness first and then have her take a blow from society.

”Iyas, you know how to wash dishes, right?”

”Don’t treat me as someone who can’t do anything! I can do basic household chores.” Iyas glared at Yang Yu, ”Why ask about this all of a sudden?”

”It’s nothing serious,” Yang Yu smiled and said, ”It’s just that I carelessly ordered too much. Considering the cost of the journey ahead, for the excess, we’ll need to work to pay it off. You don’t mind washing dishes, right? Think of it as exercise after the meal.”

”No problem.”

Iyas readily agreed — indeed, doing nothing and just relying on money for meals made her somewhat uneasy.

Doing a bit of work would also make her feel more grounded.

As Yang Yu invited Bai Jin and Iyas to start eating, he used the excuse of ”needing to communicate with the restaurant owner” to leave the table and find Kaka, the owner’s daughter.

She was a fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl, wearing a cute apron and quite capable, coming over to help in the evenings to save costs and supplement the family income.

The diner had few customers at this time, and since Yang Yu was a regular, he easily struck up a conversation with Kaka.

”Kaka, there’s something I must ask of you.” After some small talk, Yang Yu abruptly spoke, but then suddenly hesitated, seemingly finding it hard to speak. After struggling for a bit, he continued slowly, ”Sorry, I really shouldn’t trouble you.”

Yang Yu’s unusual behavior piqued Kaka’s curiosity. Yang Yu was only a few years older than her and felt quite approachable, leading her to naturally continue the conversation.

”Don’t be a stranger, Yang Yu. If there’s something you want to say, just say it. We should be thanking you for supporting our business so much — you ordered so many dishes today and even brought such a pretty older sister to dine.”

Hearing the phrase ”pretty older sister,” Yang Yu sighed, ”That’s the very issue that’s troubling me. To tell you the truth, we are actually the guards of the blonde mademoiselle, a daughter of the Nobles.”

Kaka was astonished, ”Ah?! That’s why I kept feeling that lady was so noble. So it wasn’t just my imagination.”

”Shh — keep your voice down. She may be the daughter of Nobles, but that’s all in the past.”

”What happened?” Kaka pressed.

”She comes from a family fallen on hard times and was backstabbed by enemies. The master tried his best to let us knock her out and take her away. His dying wish was for his daughter to live safely. We are following the master’s last will, taking her to a safe place, hoping to settle her as a commoner. But, there’s a small problem...”

Yang Yu hesitated again, as if unwilling to continue.

”What sort of problem? Don’t worry, Yang Yu, I won’t speak a word of this. You must trust me, since you’re asking for my help, right?”

”What a good girl.” Yang Yu was tearfully grateful, ”To be frank, ordering so much today was purely out of necessity. The three of us can’t possibly finish it all, it’s just that...”

”Just what?”

”Just that our young mistress has been accustomed to the good life and has no concept of money, thinking such a luxurious dinner is a given. If we keep this up, not to mention reaching our destination, in a day or two, our travel funds will run out, and we’ll be stuck.

So, I have an unconventional request. Of course, rest assured that we absolutely won’t dine and dash. We won’t shortchange for the meal; not breaching others’ bottom lines has always been my rule.”

”It’s not that you suddenly want me to reduce the meal’s cost, right? I really can’t decide on that by myself.” Kaka showed a hint of a helpless smile. After all, her father was the decision-maker here. ”For anything else, just order me around, Yang Yu.”

”Thank you, Kaka. I’ll cut to the chase; actually, I want our young mistress to understand the difficulty of earning money and to stop being so reckless with it. I’ll find an excuse for the young mistress to work here. When the time comes, I hope you’ll follow my instructions and take good care of our young mistress, so she can realize the importance of money. Otherwise, we might end up homeless before long.” Yang Yu was sniffing and weeping as if they were indeed on the brink of homelessness.

”No problem, leave it to me! I’ll discuss it with my father right away.”

Kaka, quite naively, took Yang Yu’s words as gospel truth and scampered into the kitchen. In no time, she returned and conveyed her father’s complete agreement.
