Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Mental Explosion

Wandering through the second level with his team, Yang Yu kept searching for Ogres to fight with other adventurers.

When he saw an Ogre with less than half health, Yang Yu would generally chill at the edge, watching passively, waiting for the adventurer team to whittle down the Ogre’s health to red, then he would suddenly emerge with his team, smoothly finishing it off. Afterward, he would swish his sleeves nonchalantly and leave.

The assisted adventurers often looked bewildered, originally thinking Yang Yu was there to steal their kill, only to realize he came to deliver an assist completely unexpected.

Indeed, there seemed to be more good people in the world.

The helped adventurers were touched and beamed with joy, only to turn around and see the Ogre exploded into a pile of Gold Coins.

After all this hardship in battle, not a single piece of Equipment dropped? Could our luck get any worse!

Their faces darkened, their morale exploded, but they could only stoop to silently pick up the coins.

Sometimes that’s just how cruel reality can be.

Of course, Yang Yu wasn’t always successful; the damage each Attack caused fluctuated, and occasionally, the Ogre had a few drops of blood left in its health bar.

If the adventurer teams snapped out of it at that moment and managed to land a final blow, the Experience Yang Yu almost had would slip away.

Then, Yang Yu could only shout, ”Don’t mention it,” while wiping away his tears and leaving with flair.

Yang Yu’s high-profile actions weren’t entirely without drawbacks. While they were ruthlessly slaying their foes, a group of people had set their sights on them.

The underground city was interconnected, allowing diligent people to grasp the state of every team, and some used this information to scheme and profit opportunistically.

An adventurer named Giant Stone and his team were exactly those who engaged in such activities.

Giant Stone had no intention of exerting great effort to strategize against the massive Ogres. His prey was the weaker adventurers.

Waiting for the weaker adventurers to tire from battling the Ogres, Giant Stone would suddenly lead his team to strike, using the excuse, ”I saw you weren’t going to make it, so I stepped in! No playing dumb, I just saved your lives. As a thank you, all these treasures are ours!” to wantonly plunder the fruits of others’ labor.

Because each member of Giant Stone’s team was built like a bear with scars crisscrossing their bodies, they looked intimidating and tough; added to this, since they had conserved their stamina by not fighting with the Ogres, the weaker adventurer teams could only swallow their anger and quietly pray not to encounter them a second time.

In reality, Giant Stone’s team wouldn’t strike the same adventurer team twice, in order to avoid inciting public outrage.

Moreover,

Since the start of this dungeon run, Giant Stone continually sent scouts to roam the labyrinth, assessing the strengths of the adventurer teams while also gathering intel on their locations, meticulously mapping out territories, and carefully selecting their victims, to avoid uniting the teams that have had monsters stolen from them.

All prepared, in the center of the second level, Giant Stone silently awaited the ripening Jiucai. When the time was nearly right, he would then lead his team into action.

But every time Giant Stone and his men were about to leap out, someone else would beat them to it, helping the adventurer teams finish the harvest before they could act, and afterward, these people wouldn’t ask for any reward, simply walking away after a job well done.

Do you think this is the work of human hands?

After all that planning and constantly sending out scouts, someone beat us to the punch.

What’s worse, those three who got there first just killed the monsters and left, hardly interacting with the adventurer team that needed help. They didn’t take over the fruits of other people’s labor like we thought they would.

Adventurers risk their lives to raid the underground city simply for the things the monsters drop, which they can sell in the market for stacks and stacks of Gold Coins and live a carefree life.

But that bunch didn’t take a thread, they gave selflessly.

What on earth are they after?

”Could they only be simply do-gooders? Damn it, they’ve messed up my plan, but don’t think they can leave the underground city that easily. Their goody-two-shoes nature might just be exploitable... Let’s see what it’s like to be a do-gooder in the underground city!”

Once committed, there’s no turning back, so Giant Stone took his adventurer team to the upper right corner of the underground city to lie in wait.

Before long, Yang Yu and his friends appeared, same as the old script, Yang Yu shouted and led Bai Jin and Iyas into the battle. Afterwards, they helped the adventurer team kill the troublesome Ogre and left without asking for any reward.

This time, Giant Stone finally caught his opportunity, blocking the way in front of Yang Yu and his group.

”Young man, you’ve got some skill. Would you be interested in joining us in raiding the third floor? The monsters there are much stronger than here, but the rewards are also incredibly abundant.”

Yang Yu glanced at Giant Stone, ”Thanks for the compliment, but I still feel the third floor is too dangerous to go down light-heartedly, so I’ve kept my range of activities strictly to the second floor.”

Giant Stone smiled and said, ”Don’t be like that. I know the third floor is dangerous, not many teams have made it down there so far, but the rewards are definitely rich. Based on my past experience, each time you go down a level, the rewards for defeating a monster double, as does the chance of dropping something good.

We’ve never had enough people to dare to go down, so we’ve been lingering on the second floor. Seeing the prowess of your trio, we see a glimmer of hope for the raid. Please, you must lend us your strength.”

”But there are many people on the second floor who need my help.”

”Don’t worry, I am more aware of the strength of these adventurers than you are. They can handle the monsters here. But the adventurers heading to the next level... they need more help than those here. The reason we want to go down and raid isn’t only for wealth but also to help those raiding the third floor.”

Giant Stone seemed earnest on the surface, but inside, he was already plotting how to teach Yang Yu and his friends, especially after seeing the beautiful Iyas, a vile thought sprang to mind.

Yang Yu, brimming with Justice, agreed, ”If they are truly in trouble, it’s my duty to assist.”

”Then thank you indeed.” Seeing Yang Yu didn’t refuse, Giant Stone’s smile grew even wider, ”You still don’t know the way to the third floor, right? Follow me!

Ah—right, you’re so agile and seem very sharp, why don’t you go ahead of us?

That way, you can spot any danger first and give us time to prepare.

Don’t worry about getting lost, we’ll direct you from behind.”

Pretending to ponder for a moment, Yang Yu said with a smile, ”That does make sense, we should indeed go ahead of you, and we should also keep some distance so that when we encounter danger, you’ll have enough time to prepare. Don’t you think?”
