Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

54: Chapter 54 Presenting Themselves 54: Chapter 54 Presenting Themselves Infiltration, it means to enter secretly.

Because it’s often tied to major events like assassinations and obtaining secret intelligence, this term has taken on a distinct hue, appearing lofty at first glance.

If you say an auntie quietly goes into the vegetable market to shop, you might think she has some unspeakable sad reasons for her discreet entrance.

But if you say an auntie infiltrates the vegetable market to shop, you might feel that this auntie is no ordinary person, and she could very well be a journalist investigating undercover or even a spy—the vegetable market no longer looks like a mere marketplace, but instead, it seems like a secret lair, instantly elevating its status.

Various games often have all kinds of infiltration scenes, catering to the magical fantasies of different kinds of people.

Yang Yu had already memorized these scenes by heart.

First of all, the most common form of infiltration is to disguise oneself as one of the enemy and blend in.

The others might find you unfamiliar, but they would never see through you, nor would they notice an extra person in their ranks.

Then, there’s the most common way of infiltration in reality: impersonate someone an organization needs.

When they’re hiring, pass the interview to become one of them, gain the organization’s trust, and shift from infiltrating to going undercover, waiting for the right moment to act.

This profession has a special name, Undercover.

Lastly, there’s the type of infiltration that many players love: the assassin’s infiltration.

Slip undetected into a location, eliminate the target, or get your hands on some special intelligence.

With this assassin-type infiltration, sometimes, even if you’re reluctant, you might get discovered.

To prevent exposure, you must deal with those who find you, making it the most thrilling and dangerous.

Among these, gradually emerged a relatively extreme kind of infiltrator.

That is,

“I kill them all, then no one will find out I infiltrated.

I’m such a little clever devil.”

Unfortunately, Yang Yu could never infiltrate by cutting them all down.

Although cutting everyone down could solve problems, it also took away a lot of fun.

Okay, it’s not that Yang Yu didn’t want to cut, it’s just that with a civilian attribute too weak, he couldn’t cut down the big guys and had to stick to honest infiltration.

Of course, these methods of infiltration aren’t set in stone but can be interchanged based on the situation.

Though Yang Yu and his team initially took the undercover approach, Yang Yu himself had no patience to work for someone else for ten days and a half a month to gain their trust.

Just as Yang Yu was contemplating which method of infiltration to adopt next, a familiar figure sneaked over towards the warehouse.

Slarate had styled his hair into beautiful curls, and had swapped his long robe for an exquisite blue suit, the only constant being the sword at his waist.

He looked serious, scanning the surroundings as if he was patrolling, but he gradually headed towards the deserted warehouse.

Seeing that only Yang Yu and Bai Jin were actually on duty, he still approached with a stern demeanor.

Yang Yu had no idea what Slarate was scheming and could only continue to pretend to be charmed by Asuna, saying, “Deputy Director Slarate, hello, is there anything you need?”

Slarate cleared his throat, “You’ve been working hard tonight!”

Yang Yu gave Bai Jin a look and Bai Jin immediately spoke up, “Not hard at all, it’s all for Lady Asuna!

For Lady Asuna, we would not hesitate to climb mountains of swords or plunge into pots of boiling oil.”

“You are indeed loyal, but that’s good.

By the way, I have something for you.” Upon hearing that, Slarate smiled ambiguously and motioned Yang Yu over, taking something out of his pocket.

Yang Yu cooperatively reached out and accepted what Slarate handed to him, feeling a weighty object.

Opening his hand, he saw five one-hundred-coin Gold Coins.

“Deputy Director Slarate, what do you mean by this?”

Slarate smiled and said, “To get closer to Asuna, a gift is necessary.

Your salary will only be given after the work is done, but if you do as I say, these five hundred coins are yours.

You can use this money to buy gifts to please Asuna and gain an advantage.

By then, even if your task ends, you will have won Asuna’s favor and continue to stay by her side.”

Yang Yu clutched the coins tightly, chuckling as he asked, “So, Director Slarate, what do we need to do for you?”

Slarate coughed lightly and whispered, “Lady Asuna takes the morning shift and I take the night shift.

Long nights aren’t good for one’s health; I want to rest a bit in the warehouse tonight.

Don’t worry about my duties, I’ve already arranged for someone to take over.

It’s not your concern who it is.”

“Oh,” said Yang Yu cheerfully, “And does Lady Asuna agree?”

Slarate’s smile came to an abrupt halt, not looking at all like someone who had received agreement.

“She tacitly consented.

Where I rest is my own business.

If you don’t believe me, give me back the money, and I’ll have a chat with others who also wish to ingratiate themselves with Asuna.

I’m sure they’ll agree,” Slarate’s tone grew noticeably weightier as he seemed to stress the gravity of the situation.

When an opportunity presented itself, Yang Yu wouldn’t pass it by.

“I didn’t say I disagreed.” Clutching the gold coins even tighter in his pocket, Yang Yu cheerfully said, “Since it’s a chance to improve relations with Asuna, we naturally won’t let it slip by.

Since you’ve said someone will take care of things, we should rightly not ask too many questions.”

Yang Yu opened his hands gesturing toward the warehouse.

Slarate immediately puffed up, saying, “Then you remember our agreement.

Unless there is an emergency, don’t wake me up.

You’ve learned what constitutes an emergency from the soldiers, right?”

“Of course, if anything happens, I’ll notify you, the deputy director, immediately.”

Having secured Yang Yu’s promise, Slarate walked into the warehouse with a sprightly step.

His presence here was no coincidence.

As a social elite from the Lianzi family, Slarate detested being overshadowed, especially by a woman.

Though the woman was also from the Lianzi family and without her, the research facility might have been exposed, Slarate just couldn’t swallow his pride.

Outwardly, he flattered Asuna, but inwardly, he swore to replace her.

Not just because almost all the recruitment work was done by him, but more importantly because that woman said staying up late was bad for the skin and would only work day shifts, dumping all the night shifts onto him.

Night shifts were harmful to one’s health, she made him stay up all night, and she slept soundly, he wasn’t that stupid!

Why should he work himself to exhaustion when all the credit goes to her?

So, at night, Slarate would come to the deserted warehouse to slack off, his own tiny act of defiance against Asuna’s tyranny.
