Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Come and Take a Look

In this world, it was the first time that Yang Yu had seen a character who could fly.

Though in many RPGs there were also characters that could fly, those characters flew merely for fun and never took advantage of flying to pull away and kite the enemy like mad — they just poked around with flashy weapons, engaging the protagonist in close combat.

Like in many web games, wings and flying were just for show, irrelevant to actual combat; it was enough that they looked cool.

But how important flying was in actual combat in this world was hard to say.

If someone mounted a dragon and came at him now, Yang Yu might not even know how to fight back.

”Iyas, from here, can you hit her?”

Seizing the moment, Yang Yu casually inquired about Iyas’s maximum shooting range.

”At this distance, with the ’Strong Wind Arrow,’ it should be just barely possible.”

As she spoke, Iyas took a bow and arrow from her quiver, drew the bow while aiming at the girl in the sky, and a tuft of green light swirled around the arrowhead before she released it with a ”whoosh,” sending the arrow flying.

Yang Yu jumped when Iyas suddenly drew her bow beside him, and he hastily deployed the Illusion Shield, using ”Interception” to block the arrow.

The arrow was deflected by Yang Yu, and Iyas looked at him aghast, her face bearing an expression of ”Wasn’t it you who told me to attack?”

”I was just asking if you could shoot that far, not telling you to actually shoot her! Don’t aggro without thinking!”

”Huh? You could’ve made that clear earlier! I thought you sensed something special about her and wanted me to attack...”

”Don’t you have any common sense in combat? Anyone that skilled with magic spells is obviously not someone to mess with; are you trying to get us all killed by pulling her in? Couldn’t you have asked for my opinion before drawing your bow?”

Yang Yu’s face was a picture of helplessness; he truly had just been speaking off the cuff.

It felt like Emperor Qin Shi Huang on an outing, with Xiang Yu and Liu Bang standing by watching; then suddenly, Liu Bang says to Xiang Yu, ”Despite Qin Shi Huang’s grandeur, either of us could take his place,” and the next second, Xiang Yu leaps onto Qin Shi Huang’s carriage and kills him.

Yang Yu was just a common civilian, lacking the heroic glow of a protagonist. If he carelessly angered a hidden powerful figure, he was sure to be mercilessly wiped out by magic.

Facing Yang Yu’s reprimand, Iyas retorted without conceding, ”It’s your fault for not clarifying your request, leading me to misunderstand! As an excellent elf warrior, the last thing we want is to miss an opportunity! So, I did nothing wrong just now! It’s you who made the mistake!”

Truly a logic only a country girl would have.

Yang Yu shook his head. It seemed his... education of Iyas was still far from sufficient. He had to intensify his efforts; otherwise, sooner or later, this little country girl mentality would surely cause trouble.

For now, he better start from scratch and explain the strategic difficulties of the underground city to her, making sure she doesn’t act recklessly.

Yang Yu did not want to see Iyas enter the underground city, then shout, ”For the sake of Hake, I must become stronger!” and start shooting every monster in the face, pulling in a whole bunch of them, leading to their doom.

Elsewhere...

Tico, who soared freely through the sky, had failed to notice the minor incident in the forest, simply relishing the broad view from above to survey the forest and carry out the task given to her by her master.

In a short while, Tico found the entrance to the underground city, which was an oval gap formed by the collapse at the thick base of a large tree, seemingly as if the tree grew right on the entrance.

The large tree’s roots, covered in black soil, dangled carelessly, forming a curtain. Behind the curtain, a long staircase led downwards, firm with the imprints of variously sized footsteps. Where the staircase led was uncertain, but at the end of its dark reach, one could faintly see some light.

”This is the place. Time to get to work.”

Lightly landing on a tree branch, Tico drew a blue array in the vacuum, extracting a straight, white magic wand from the center of the array.

With three golden bells tied at the top of the wand, tinkling merrily, Tico raised her hand, and a purple ball enveloped by a spell appeared.

She tossed the ball into the sky, and the purple ball instantly expanded hundreds of times in size.

Spell lines spread out from the purple sphere, and as Tico directed the magic wand, a massive circular array took shape in the sky. A gigantic purple eye in the center of the array slowly opened, fixed on the entrance to the underground city, and then, as if it had never existed, it completely disappeared from the sky.

”That should take care of it. I had the Martial Arts Exam yesterday, coming here to scout today is really tiring and boring.”

Yawning, Tico felt drowsy and muttered to herself:

”There is still two years until the Dragon God Conference. I hope by that time it gets a bit more interesting.”

After adjusting her ample mage hat and straightening her mage robe, Tico took a step forward and fell from the tree branch, stopping abruptly in mid-air about ten centimeters from the ground as a hurricane kicked up dust on the surface.

Afterward, Tico slowly levitated back into the air. Just as she intended to continue using ”Dancing in the Air” to return to the All Things Library, she accidentally spotted three people approaching the entrance to the underground city.

”Adventurers?”

Those who came here, if not adventurers, were simply civilians who had lost their way. They had exquisite equipment, which essentially eliminated the possibility that they were merely lost civilians; there was only one possibility left.

But all three were quite young, with the man in the lead appearing to be only about sixteen or seventeen, almost her age.

”It looks like they’ve never faced the challenge of the underground city; although my master said to watch and wait. But adventurers like these are probably just following the crowd into the underground city, clueless about the dangers it holds.

It feels like a hassle, but perhaps I should persuade them before their greed gets the better of them. Maybe they can be convinced to turn over a new leaf and focus on their studies.”

Changing her flight direction, Tico slowly descended in front of the three, but before she could speak, the leading man greeted her with a smile, ”Miss Tico, I’m your fan!”

Huh?
