Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

64: Chapter 64: The 9-Point Gap in Luck Value 64: Chapter 64: The 9-Point Gap in Luck Value “Had your fill?

Don’t forget what I asked you to do!

We’re heading down first.”

Having successfully manipulated He Meng, Yang Yu, accompanied by Bai Jin, stepped through the transformed iron gate.

He wasn’t worried about He Meng slacking off after eating, since He Meng was quite fond of him—just a little tsundere and proud.

Once full, He Meng would surely work for him.

Descending the winding staircase, spiraling downward, after some time, Yang Yu and his companion reached a large, metal-made gate.

The door bore numerous claw marks from Steel Dragon Wolves; for safety’s sake, the potion research facility had double-secured it.

The unlocking method of the door was to solve a puzzle, and Yang Yu swiftly put the pieces together.

Suddenly, the space ahead opened up, and the door swung wide, the bright white lights illuminating every corner of the area.

The potions research facility was slightly smaller than a soccer field, with workbenches of various sizes arranged haphazardly yet without feeling disordered; on the contrary, it was very simplistic.

On the workbenches were all sorts of herbs and equipment, and a faint medicinal fragrance wafted through the air.

Upon closer inspection, alongside the common beakers and test tubes, there were many metal devices of complex design, faintly reminiscent of steampunk aesthetics.

For a very long time, Yang Yu had found the technology in many Otherworld RPGs quite puzzling; despite the culture being stuck in medieval times, there were often things and settings only seen in the modern era.

Even when reaching his level cap, the system had bizarrely offered him the option to tinker with machinery.

Indeed, realizing that piloting a Gundam in the Otherworld was common sense…

All Yang Yu hoped now was that the Demon King, who descended upon them, wasn’t attacking this world in a Gundam, with planes and cannons—an outright dimensional strike, which would just be unfair.

Whether the Demon King piloted a plane was a question for another time.

The real curiosity for Yang Yu right now was that the potions research facility was completely deserted, not even an ant in sight.

Where had all the people gone?

Perhaps they had hidden away early at the sound of the alarm, but one couldn’t rule out the possibility that they were just off work, resting.

Surely they hadn’t all been scared witless by the sound of an explosion and evacuated collectively?

That would be too cowardly, wouldn’t it?

Yang Yu had been prepared to catch a few researchers to interrogate them for the Racial Essence and the Revive Elixir, but now, he would have to take matters into his own hands.

“Bai Jin, I’ll go this way, you go that way.

Take what you can, and I’ll do the same.

If you find the Resurrection Potion, don’t hesitate to drink it.”

“I’ll also look for the things you mentioned.”

Exchanging glances, Bai Jin and Yang Yu began scouring the research facility separately.

Their sweeping was much faster than they had anticipated, not because they were quick, but because this was a research facility—it looked large, but in reality, there wasn’t much to take.

Mature technologies had already been put into production on the first floor or elsewhere here, while this place was more about repeated trial and error to create better potions.

Yang Yu couldn’t care less for the half-finished products with too many negative effects or inadequate performance; he begrudgingly swept all the valuable herbs into his possession.

Eventually, the two met up in front of a workbench.

“How did it go, did you find what you were looking for?”

Bai Jin held up a bag of herbs for Yang Yu and shook her head, “No, did you find it?”

“Unfortunately, I didn’t either.”

Yang Yu had searched for a long while but had also not found the Racial Essence he sought.

“Could it be that we’ve been looking in the wrong place?” Bai Jin gripped her Magic Wand tightly, her face pale.

The hope that seemed within reach was now elusive.

“Could all our prior efforts have been in vain?”

Her disheveled hair concealed Bai Jin’s face but could not hide the flickering in her eyes.

“Don’t be so quick to give up.” Yang Yu pressed his ear against the wall closest to the workbench and knocked, “There is no sign of any finished products or samples here, and not a single person is present.

This room very likely has a secret passage that could serve as a refuge for them, or perhaps, house some more valuable items.”

“What specific thing it was, went without saying.”

Yang Yu’s words reignited the hope in Bai Jin’s heart, a glimmer of light rekindled in her vacant eyes.

“Tell me what I should do, how can I find those secret passages?”

Yang Yu furrowed his brow.

It wasn’t that he didn’t know how to do it, but rather, he had knocked on the wall several times, and the sound seemed indistinguishable.

Could a normal person really determine the thickness of a wall with just a knock, like they do in the movies?

Leaning against the smooth wall surface, Yang Yu couldn’t help but fall into contemplation—the wall was cool to the touch and quite comforting.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad to remain a salted fish against the wall after all.

“To traverse a secret passage, naturally requires a mechanism.

Generally, these mechanisms are placed in locations that ordinary people don’t often touch, like a particular brick, behind a painting, or a book.

The methods to open them are extremely simple—for instance, flicking a switch, rotating a button at a specific angle, or simply pressing down.

In short, they usually aren’t too complicated.

After all, it would be pretty embarrassing to forget how to open a secret passage when trying to make a quick escape.

Most mechanisms will leave some traces once activated, but the few intricate ones, which return to their original state after opening, are the hardest to find.”

“Is it something like this?”

Bai Jin gently pushed against the polished wall, revealing a red knob.

“Mm, a mechanism like this one just needs a gentle twist in a specific direction, and I reckon a secret passage will appear.

We’re short on time, so just follow what I just said.

Search for anything suspicious, then check each one—the carpet-style search…

won’t…

fail…

to…”

As Bai Jin gently turned the knob, the wall beside Yang Yu started to tremble.

A gap at the junction between the wall and the floor slowly widened, moving upwards along with Yang Yu’s face, twisting his voice out of shape.

Hmm?

Hmm—?

Hmm???!!!

Yang Yu tilted his head, an expression of astonishment on his face that he hadn’t shown in a long time.

Damn—she found it just like that.

Could a difference of nine points in Luck value really make such a huge difference?

Originally, Yang Yu thought it would take a considerable amount of time, yet, in the blink of an eye, Bai Jin had found a control button cover on the wall that hadn’t completely closed, and she successfully opened the hidden room of this medicinal research facility.

The black wall beside them rose higher and higher, and a quaint room gradually appeared before Yang Yu and Bai Jin.

The room was only the size of a classroom.

The dark blue lighting fluctuated, dimming and brightening, with various Potions arranged inside a glass cabinet at the back of the room.

However, at this moment, Yang Yu and Bai Jin’s gazes didn’t linger on the cabinet full of Potions.

Large and small pipes crisscrossed the floor, plugged into a metal base.

The metal base supported a transparent glass cylinder filled with golden liquid, which cast a soft golden glow in the dim room, exceedingly conspicuous.

Above the transparent glass cylinder, a metal apparatus sealed it off, and a tube continuously injected minute amounts of green liquid, which quickly integrated with the golden liquid inside the glass cylinder.

Yet this was not what truly captured Yang Yu’s attention.

What really stole Yang Yu’s gaze was…

In that golden solution, unbelievably, there was a person suspended in slumber.

At that moment,

Yang Yu felt as if he had entered the world of science fiction.
