Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

“It’s time to start working.

Don’t forget what I taught you, abide by the rules here, and that will be the best service to Lord Asuna!”

“We have the rules committed to memory, everything is for Lord Asuna!”

Opening the door, Yang Yu and Bai Jin simultaneously raised their hands, swearing allegiance to Asuna.

Seizing the moment, a blue blob quietly slipped through the crack of the door, rapidly squirmed its body, and leapt toward the upper ventilation duct.

The soldier completing the shift change seemed to notice some noise and turned around but saw nothing.

“Is something the matter?” asked Yang Yu.

“It’s nothing, I might have been mistaken!”

Mumbling a few words, the soldier led Yang Yu and Bai Jin to their worksite, leaving He Meng rapidly navigating through the ventilation duct.

To make He Meng move even faster, Yang Yu allocated all the attribute points gained from He Meng’s upgrades to speed.

From then on, He Meng had no weaknesses—able to endure, fight, and run, with its only flaw being its lack of enthusiasm for combat and tendency to slack off.

As He Meng moved further away from Yang Yu, it contemplated something it found utterly perplexing.

Before leaving, Yang Yu had merely placed his hand on its head, and it had inexplicably felt much stronger, especially in terms of speed, which had greatly increased.

What exactly had that man done to me?

How is it that just by following him, I feel like I can grow stronger?

I had spent a year and hadn’t achieved this level, but with him, in just a few weeks, I had experienced unprecedented growth…

Could this be the benefit of a Blood Contract?

The Blood Contract, ancient and mysterious, though old and enigmatic, it was exceedingly simple and stable.

As royal lineage of the Slimes, He Meng knew how to form a Blood Contract, but except for “cannot be broken unless one party dies” and “if the subordinate attacks the master, they receive double damage,” it actually knew nothing else about the Blood Contract.

Thus, after lengthy contemplation, He Meng naturally attributed this strength enhancement to the Blood Contract.

In its view, as Yang Yu grew stronger, it received feedback and became stronger itself.

It never considered that it was simply siphoning ‘Experience’ by coasting along with Yang Yu.

Ultimately, He Meng noted that whenever it saw Yang Yu fighting monsters, it merely skirted around the actions.

This was what led to its misconception.

“Forming a contract with him isn’t all bad.

If his attitude were a bit better and not so arrogant, perhaps, we really could become friends.”

Regardless of how narrow or bumpy the duct was, He Meng could easily traverse it by shifting its semi-liquid body, easily descending layer by layer.

Soon, it reached a certain area on the second underground level, and upon just a glance inside, it instantly felt a chill down its spine.

On the other side.

Yang Yu and Bai Jin had arrived at their post, a small warehouse filled with various miscellaneous items.

Their task was to patrol left and right, maintaining order.

The black workers were only utilized in emergencies and, being expendable to the facility, were often assigned to back-up positions that required no technical skills and were not important.

Becoming a guard was indeed a blessing for Yang Yu.

What he needed to consider next was how to infiltrate the first level and become part of it, but before that, there was another matter to resolve.

Looking at the ‘Charm’ heart on Bai Jin’s Status Bar flickering faster and faster, Yang Yu felt extremely anxious inside.

The worst-case scenario had still occurred; feeding Bai Jin the medicine was not a permanent solution.

The woman was continuously releasing Charm through some tool, and what was even more terrifying was that the source of the Charm might likely be the entire research institute, making its destruction next to impossible.

Initially, the Charm effect was very weak, and Bai Jin was able to resist it with her own will, but as she spent more time in the institute, she became increasingly distraught and even began to mutter Asuna’s name, showing a visible trend of being re-charmed.

Yang Yu gave Bai Jin several pills, instructing her to take one whenever she could not hold on any longer, insisting that she must not force herself, as being charmed again would be terrible; this allowed Bai Jin to continue following him.

With such invisible magic influences, even if they could create chaos, it’s feared that it would only last for a short time.

More considerations had arisen.

Speaking of which…

Suddenly, Yang Yu realized something very serious.

Er, saying that he sent He Meng out to scout, but can a Slime really describe the situation inside clearly?

…

Beneath the night sky, an elderly man arrived at a spacious villa under the escort of several guards.

Waiting for them there was a middle-aged man with a face as round as a plate.

He was so fat his neck was barely visible, his fingers adorned with colorful gemstones, draped in the finest satin, his hair slick and shiny as if gelled, looking utterly unique.

He gazed in the direction of the research institute, completely composed.

As the President of the Silver Orchid Commerce, Big Pancake Face was already aware of the infiltration plan by the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce.

Previously, he had specifically warned Asuna not to let any pests into the institute, but now that was no longer necessary.

“President of Silver Orchid Commerce, I have a few matters I want to confirm with you.”

The speaker was Joey Caro of the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce.

After seeing off Yang Yu and Bai Jin, he returned to the chamber to handle affairs, but not long after, he received a letter from the President of Silver Orchid Commerce.

Halfway through the letter, he immediately called for a carriage and rushed directly to Big Pancake Face’s villa.

After having a servant bring tea and inviting Carlo Joy to sit, Big Pancake Face’s face wore a smile exclusive to victors.

“Hehe.

I’ve already made things very clear in the letter.”

Even now, President Carlo couldn’t believe that everything stated in the letter was true, but seeing Big Pancake Face’s confident smile, he had no choice but to believe it.

“I already have several families’ weaknesses in my hands, and they have all chosen to stand by and transfer their shares.”

Hearing this, Carlo clenched his teeth.

Those cowards, for the sake of profit, had become parasites of the chamber, and because they were still capable and backed by predatory families, I had kept them around, not expecting that the levee would break due to an ant hole.

Carlo quickly regained his composure, seeing through Big Pancake Face’s thoughts, “Even though you’ve gained some of our shares, those shares are not enough to acquire and merge with our Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce, right?”

“Undoubtedly you are a Chamber President.

That’s the real reason I asked you here.” A malicious grin spread across Big Pancake Face’s face, wide as a pancake, “There will always be those who cling to their benefits, who won’t see the coffin until they cry.

Clearly, I’ve told them their game of heroes has ended, and they’ve become mere sloths, yet they still harbor a slim, illusory hope.”

“What did you say!” Carlo’s face was full of horror, then he regained his smile, one of utter resignation, “I see, so…”

President Carlo knew now, he understood why after their vulnerabilities were seized, members of his chamber had submitted so quickly; their plans were probably known to Silver Orchid Commerce from the start.

“President Carlo, you know what I want, think about how to proceed.” Big Pancake Face, his wide face full of greed, “I have already provided the information to the parliament, and tomorrow will be your day of trial.

Now, the fate of the entire chamber is in your hands, whether it’s a glorious funeral or a desperate struggle ending in a sudden collapse.”
