Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Keeping Achievements and Fame Hidden

A resonant voice echoed through the vast underground city, and the adventurer team engrossed in combat with the Ogre subconsciously looked towards the source of the sound.

Just as Yang Yu charged at the Ogre with a speed that left no time for reactions, he drew his sword from his waist and slashed at the Ogre’s chest, creating a shallow cut.

”Iyas, Bai Jin, keep up the attack! Cover me!”

Iyas released her hand, and the fully drawn Longbow propelled the Sharp arrow forward. A Hurricane converged on the arrowhead, producing a piercing whistle as it traced a silver arc through the dim underground city, hitting the Ogre’s throat precisely.

[Gale Point Break], with a basic Attack multiplier of 120%, it might seem low, but the attack came with 80% armor penetration, which was extremely effective against the high Defense Ogre.

A Frost Ice Arrow swiftly followed the arrow, stabbing at the Ogre’s face and instantly freezing the Ogre’s head.

Bai Jin’s body gradually recovered, her Intelligence returning to Four hundred, and a simple Frost Ice Arrow could deal massive damage.

However, the Ogre did not fall. It lifted its wooden club and violently smashed it towards Yang Yu, who did not dodge. Lowering his center of gravity, he executed [Shield Counter], allowing the huge club to fall on his Shield adorned with red Spur.

A red electric current reflected off the Shield, heading straight for the Ogre’s heart, reducing the Ogre’s Blood Volume by the last bit in its gauge.

With the light completely gone from its eyes, the Ogre collapsed backward like a small mountain, hitting the cold floor with a deep thud that echoed throughout the corridor and raising a cloud of dust that left faint traces on the walls.

”Bam—”

The large body of the Ogre turned into tiny specks of light that flew towards the walls and ceiling, and a large number of Gold Coins poured out from where the Ogre vanished, rolling to the feet of the five-person adventurer team.

It was only then that they realized they had been cut in on a kill...

There was an unwritten rule among adventurers exploring the underground city.

In the underground city, where danger and fortune coexist, fighting each other only leads to mutual destruction, with neither party able to continue with the strategy. Only by showing mutual respect can both sides win.

Once a monster is targeted by a particular adventurer team, others must courteously leave based on a first-come, first-served understanding and not interfere with the strategy process.

The only circumstances in which others might take on their battle are either if they willingly give up or if they are killed by that creature.

After one side kills a monster, it is not absolutely forbidden to covet the other’s loot and snatch it in the underground city.

This rule was set so that everyone could earn and spend money.

However, not everyone abides by this rule. In the face of absolute interests, all regulations are merely words on paper, especially those unwritten.

Therefore, often some adventurers, relying on their own strength, would occupy the fruits of others’ labor under various pretenses.

Especially the small adventurer teams were particularly vulnerable to bullying.

Small adventurer teams also considered forming larger groups by uniting but were mostly disparate, each pursuing their own interests, and were simply unable to stick together.

As a result, most small adventurer teams had the mentality of ”as long as it’s not me being bullied” and ”as long as they are not too excessive, it doesn’t matter”, exploring the underground city with a stroke of luck.

Those with great strength also gauged their actions, after all, there were precedents where small adventurer teams had united to topple arrogant powerful adventurers in the underground city.

Originally, the team strategizing against the Ogre thought that by driving the creature to the first floor, no one would be able to claim, ”I delivered the final blow, so I’m the one who killed the Ogre, and all the spoils are mine!” and monopolize their hard-earned results.

Yet, the thing they feared most still happened.

The trio who snatched their prey looked quite young, but adventurers should never judge a book by its cover, thus for a moment, the squad of five who had been tirelessly chipping away at the Ogre’s blood volume felt bewildered.

After some thought, they decided to start with the question, ”Why are you stealing our prey?” to test the waters before making their move.

Just as the captain of the adventurer’s team was about to inquire, the young man opposite to them cracked a smile.

”No need to thank me, I never leave my name behind when doing a good deed. As the saying goes, ’When witnessing injustice, draw your sword to help.’ It’s just a helping hand, nothing worth mentioning. Take your time picking up the coins! We’re heading down to look for other monsters, so please make way.”

After saying that, Yang Yu gestured to Bai Jin and Iyas, and the three of them passed by the adventurer’s team and headed towards the second level of the underground city.

The team planning against the Ogre was left in disarray by the turn of events.

What’s going on? Are there actually people helping to fight the monsters? Could they be inexperienced adventurers just starting out?

If that were true, they might have just struck it lucky this time, and likely those adventurers who might bully them won’t bother them again for a while.

After all, one should always go for the low-hanging fruit.

Mourning the fate of the trio silently, the five-person adventure squad turned their gaze back to the coins scattered on the ground, their expression somewhat ugly, for they had finally found a monster they could defeat, but it dropped no equipment whatsoever.

...

...

Continuing along the passage as expected, they easily found the entrance to the second level without departing from Yang Yu’s predictions.

It was a z-shaped staircase just as wide as the passage, over three meters tall, with many steps damaged and the breakage appearing quite recent.

Yang Yu’s guess was confirmed—the underground city’s first level was empty of monsters. The Ogre had come to the first level via the staircase.

Stepping over the stairs with Bai Jin and Iyas, Yang Yu entered the second level of the ”Hall of Wisdom.”

The sounds of weapon collisions echoed through the corridors, while the voice of magicians chanting spells was incessant, and the flickering lights in the underground city rose and fell in succession.

This place was much livelier than the first floor, and they had arrived not too late; there were plenty of monsters suitable for them to level up.

The Ogre they had just defeated on the first floor was level 34, with attributes about twice as high as an average person’s, and the monsters on this second floor should be comparable to that Ogre, making them time-consuming and difficult to deal with.

Therefore, Yang Yu made a snap decision to go do a good deed beneficial to other adventurers, fully embodying the spirit of international cooperation.

”Fellow adventurers, you’ve worked hard fighting monsters, go ahead and rest a bit. If you don’t mind, I can deliver the final blow! Don’t worry, whatever drops will be all yours, and the Experience Value is all I need!”

Yang Yu naturally wouldn’t say such words out loud in front of others. Doing good deeds without leaving one’s name, keeping one’s contributions hidden, that’s what makes a person truly great.
