Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

76: 76 Chapter: Village Girl Goes to the City 76: 76 Chapter: Village Girl Goes to the City Elves, with golden hair and blue eyes, faces unmarked by age, possess sharp ears and long lives, are a common race in various fantasy games.

Although different games have variations in race settings, they generally do not deviate from the points mentioned above, belonging to a race whose image has been thoroughly fixed.

Because the appearance of elves aligns with the aesthetic preferences of the vast majority of people, and they never age, they are also one of the most frequently depicted races in indescribable notebooks.

But, that’s not the topic for discussion today.

In addition to their memorable racial physical characteristics, elves have another commonly seen setting.

Elves possess long lives, but they haven’t used this longevity to do something significant; on the contrary, they seclude themselves in remote areas, form their communities, and live a primitive life of working at sunrise and resting at sunset, and they enjoy it thoroughly.

Thus, in games, it is often seen that a 2000-year-old elf still behaves like a naive teenager of seventeen or eighteen years, similar to the quirk of a seven or eight hundred-year-old loli vampire.

Assumption.

No need to assume, the elves in this game world probably live the same life in small village communities as commonly depicted.

They have long lives and perhaps know profound magic, but they haven’t experienced much of the outside world.

To put it nicely, this is called being oblivious to worldly matters and living peacefully.

To put it harshly, this is called forever being a villager in the remote mountains.

It appears that Iyas’s village is not large, and she could probably remember every person and their dwellings in the village, and live in harmony and mutual assistance with everyone.

In her view, human society is just a larger village, fundamentally no different.

In this “village,” the people know each other, help one another, and whenever something significant happens, others would participate to some extent, having some understanding of the matter.

Therefore, she keeps questioning me about her brother’s whereabouts, trying to pry some information from me, and wants me to help her atone for the deeds of the “human” group.

What qualifications do I have to represent the “human” group?

One person can never represent a large group; at most, they can represent the opinion of the majority, and the larger the group, the more difficult it is to represent the majority’s opinion.

Looking at an Iyas who seemed to take it for granted, pity and compassion suddenly appeared in Yang Yu’s eyes.

In his view, Iyas is purely a village girl who has come to the city.

When deceived, she cries and screams, claiming that no one in the city is good, then, she also grabs someone who kindly tries to help her find the swindler and demands compensation from him.

After all, they are all city people, whether you compensate or he compensates, it’s all the same.

Yang Yu calls this the Villager’s First Theory of Thought.

Knowing the root of the problem, he naturally knows how to address it accordingly.

Today, Yang Yu was about to show the village girl what the deep ploys of the city were like, and it was already too late for her to return to the countryside.

In the days that followed, Yang Yu still wanted to transform this very country ‘bumpkin’ into the most fashionable modern lady.

When she returned to the village, from missing it to despising it, from despising to feeling superior, then from feeling superior to feeling sympathy, and finally suddenly realizing she had once been like them, in a daze she found herself back to her village girl days.

In the end, she couldn’t help but burst into tears and silently swore to make a significant contribution to rural development.

Tsk tsk—the scene was too beautiful.

Yang Yu could hardly wait to give her the cruelest societal beating.

“What are you smirking about by yourself?

I’ve already begged you like this, do you not plan to do something?

If you do nothing, won’t your conscience be condemned?

We were living peacefully, peacefully coexisting with the outside world, yet you unilaterally disrupted our tranquil life, capturing us, treating us as commodities!” Iyas stared fiercely at Yang Yu.

Yang Yu gently rubbed his chin, restrained his smile, and sat back down on the chair, saying seriously, “Helping you is not impossible.

But as I said before, if you want my help, you’ll have to pay me.”

The expression on Iyas’s face did not change, glaring at Yang Yu, that look was less like pleading and more like demanding immediate repentance.

“I’ve already expressed my opinion!

Are all humans really so heartless?”

“Conscience?” Yang Yu scoffed, crossed his arms, and propped up his legs, “Miss Iyas, some people indeed have a conscience, while others do not.

Please don’t generalize, Miss Iyas.

Of course, I belong to those who have a bit of it, but conscience, after all, is relative.

Firstly, those who persecuted your village and took your people weren’t me.

Now you’re asking me to replace those people and take out my conscience to compensate you, it’s like if a neighbor’s child stole your cake, and you ask a completely unrelated child to return your cake.

Imagine, if you were that unrelated child, and someone demanded you return a cake for no reason, how would you feel?”

Biting her lip, Iyas somewhat realized the bias in her previous statements but did not amend her position.

“One can’t generalize like that!

It’s like a bunch of kids playing a prank, graffitiing a door.

Even if some kids did nothing but watch, their consciences should also be condemned!

They originally had the chance to step in and prevent it, yet they chose to do nothing.

But there are still remedial measures, as long as they step forward and point out who the culprits are, they can escape the guilt in their hearts.”

“So, let me ask you, should the consciences of those kids’ younger siblings also be condemned?

If there’s a newborn baby, should his conscience also be condemned?”

“Of course not!

They are completely unrelated to the incident.” Iyas loudly denied.

“Is that so?

I thought for sure you would say, they would be somewhat condemned by their consciences.” Yang Yu stretched out his hand and touched his chin, “Miss Iyas, I’ve been feeling since the start…

do you really think I’m a key participant in the incident?”

“Is that not the case…”

As she spoke these words, Iyas’s confidence palpably wavered.

Yang Yu didn’t immediately burst her bubble but continued methodically.

“Merely because there are many people, you think I am one of them?

I think you really flatter me.

Just as you and I just exemplified, the children who did the graffiti are only a small part of all children.

If because of that small group, the blame for their actions is spread to the entire circle of children, affecting innocent babies, don’t you think that would be excessive?

Now, I can even say confidently that I am that newly born baby.

All I did was sneak into the research institute and accidentally rescued you, that’s all.

It was just a spur of the moment act of kindness that led me to save you by chance.

Having barely rescued you, yet you turn it around to blame me; doesn’t your conscience hurt?”
