The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 587: Chapter 587: Still Worried That Nathalie Quinlan Might Hear It_1

Nathalie Quinlan propped her chin, listening to Alfred Garland still talking to Amadeus Yancey about the raw stones and the Red Alliance. She replied to him with less of her earlier laziness.

[sun: This was an accident, don’t worry, there shouldn’t be a next time.]

Before, she didn’t know how to repay the favor, but those raw stones could count as partially repaying it.

After Nathalie Quinlan replied to the message, she exited the app, with no intention of responding again. @ilovebeingskinny was always the most talkative in the group, and she didn’t know what he did all day, being so idle. No matter who in the group engaged with him, he could talk their ear off for two hours. His reputation was well-known, and she didn’t want to be entangled in a pointless chatter with him.

Right after she logged off the Red Alliance app, a phone call came through.

When Nathalie Quinlan saw the caller ID, she put aside the ease and liberty from her face, and with more seriousness, picked up the phone and put it to her ear, answering, ”Hello.”

Her voice wasn’t like Ghania Quinlan’s or Wenny Taylor’s, that soft, young girl’s voice. For some reason, her voice was hoarser.

But it was the kind of appealing huskiness, slow in tone, that sounded like the strings of a cello being plucked, inexplicably enticing.

Amadeus Yancey was on the phone with Alfred Garland, listening to him talk about the goods; his attention started to drift.

”Amadeus, why do I hear Ms. Quinlan’s voice? Are you with Ms. Quinlan?” Because Alfred Garland was discussing an important matter, his vigilance was heightened. He immediately fell silent, not bringing up the Red Alliance or the Illegal Zone again, nor the internal matters of The Ninth Institute, saying, ”Then I’ll wait for you to come back before I discuss it with you.”

It wasn’t that he was wary of Nathalie Quinlan; in his mind, even if she was impressive, she was just a bit better than an ordinary high school girl.

To ordinary people, the things they dealt with, like The Ninth Institute, Red Alliance, and the Illegal Zone, were probably unheard of.

He didn’t look down on Nathalie Quinlan, but he felt that she wasn’t yet at the level where she should be exposed to these matters.

Moreover, these matters were too confidential. Many of the great families in Beijing wanted to know about them. He feared if Nathalie heard and casually mentioned it to classmates, it would leak out, and they would have a hard time dealing with the aftermath...

Amadeus Yancey, aware of Alfred Garland’s cautious tone, understood his concern. However, he hadn’t fully investigated the relationship between Nathalie Quinlan and sun. Even if he had, without the consent of the concerned parties, he wouldn’t disclose it. Hence, he didn’t interject, simply hummed his acknowledgment with a deep voice and casually ended the car phone call.

The car suddenly fell silent.

All he could hear was the girl on the phone, nestled in and speaking.

”Now? There’s nothing much. I went to see Uncle Cagwin today, and his condition wasn’t great. I spoke with his doctor for a bit and am planning to look up overseas information to see if there are similar cases... It’s serious? Hmm... I can make a trip over. When do you need me?”

Amadeus Yancey just listened to her deep voice familiarly chatting about timings with the person on the other end, until she finally hung up.

Once Nathalie Quinlan had ended the call, he slightly raised his eyebrows, inquiring without change of expression, ”What happened?”

Nathalie had just put her phone down, turned her head slightly, her delicate and pretty face directly facing him, and said somewhat irritably, ”A friend’s elderly family member is sick, and it sounds serious. They hope I can help take a look. I need to make a trip to Beijing tomorrow.”

Her friend was a Beijing local?

Amadeus Yancey showed a look of surprise, but it wasn’t extraordinary. He only found it strange that during her last trip to Beijing for an exam, her friend hadn’t asked to meet up for a meal.

”Do you want me to book your airplane tickets?”
