The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 553: Chapter 553: Knowing He’s Pretending to Be Pitiable_1

On the other side, Nathalie had just set her phone down, pulled out a chair, and was preparing to open her computer.

Then Shawn’s phone call came in.

With a fierce look in her eyes and a burst of irritation, she angrily answered the call. Having just bathed, her voice was low, ”Hello.”

”Nathalie, are you busy?”

Shawn’s speaking voice came from the other end of the phone.

Nathalie glanced at her computer that had just booted up, propped a hand against her forehead, and then moved aside to take his call, ”No. What’s up?”

Shawn wasn’t one to beat around the bush and said bluntly, ”Yeah. I wanted to talk to you about the music exchange event.”

As soon as Nathalie heard anything about a music exchange event, she wasn’t very interested, but out of politeness, she still listened patiently, pressing down on the cool annoyance between her brows, ”Ah, go ahead.”

Shawn immediately started pitching her the grand event that was to be held in McKinney.

”This music exchange event is of a very high rank, aside from me, the Tanzil family has also invited numerous masters from the music circles, both domestic and international. If you could go, you’d get to meet a lot of people. Moreover, this is also a great opportunity to promote traditional music. With your level, you’ll definitely amaze everyone there, and then...”

Nathalie, who had been patiently listening to him, interrupted him with irritation, ”I’m not interested.”

She has never liked crowded events, let alone the kind Shawn was talking about, which she was even less interested in.

She wasn’t like Ghania, who enjoyed showing off in crowded events.

If she had to choose, she would rather curl up in her room for a nap or play some games to relax than spend time at a music exchange event.

She didn’t want to perform at those kinds of events.

Shawn knew she would say that and had prepared himself before making the call. His voice immediately softened, ”You really don’t want to go?”

”This opportunity is really rare. Not many people in the country have a spot available, and I thought, if you wanted to go, I could go with you.”

Nathalie’s interest waned as she looked down, ”I don’t want to go.”

Direct and to the point.

He didn’t even stand a chance to salvage the situation.

Shawn felt bitterly disappointed. The event was of high rank, and many people who were eager to attend didn’t have the qualifications; how had it come to this, where he was the one begging someone to go and she didn’t want to?

He spoke dejectedly, ”...How about you think it over? This time it really is a great opportunity. There’s no harm in going. I’ve talked to the person leading the organization of this exchange, and she promised me that there wouldn’t be many people, it’s more of a private event. She’s organizing it to foster an exchange between Eastern and Western music. You know, it’s easy to find students of Western music; there’s a whole lot of good prospects studying piano and violin. But it’s tough for our traditional instruments!”

”Aren’t there people studying traditional music?” She knew from watching videos online that there were many classical music enthusiasts.

”For sure there are people studying, but very few at this rank can engage in an exchange with others. I don’t want to end up being the only decent one representing the Konghou. I can represent this generation of Konghou players, but I don’t want others to think that only I can play it. A hundred years from now, if the Konghou dies with me, the failure would be on my hands...”

Listened attentively to his emotionally charged words, Nathalie knew well he was mostly putting on an act, yet she still couldn’t help but rub her forehead and say, ”I might not have the time.”

Shawn perked up at her slightly softened tone; she wasn’t as adamantly refusing as she was at the start.
