The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Then You Have the Nerve to Trouble Me_1

Jeff Quinlan refused to give up, insistently stuffing the box into her arms, ”Just take it. Even though your birthday’s passed, it’s still a token of my affection! This is a Seven necklace, have you ever heard of the Seven brand? I didn’t even buy one for your sister. Keep this necklace, and I promise, next year I won’t forget the time. I’ll invite your mom and your grandma and book a table at Waterfront Pavilion to make up for your birthday properly.”

If Ghania Quinlan hadn’t witnessed his coldness before, she might have almost believed his claptrap and truly thought he was a good father. Unfortunately, after she had seen the true colors of the Quinlan family, this eager facade only left her amused and disdainful.

Nathalie Quinlan didn’t reach out to take it and instead raised an eyebrow to counter-question him, ”Mr. Quinlan, if you want to ask me something, just say it directly.”

This damn girl!

Jeff Quinlan, losing face, held the brocade box. Seeing that she didn’t take it for a long while, he could only shamefacedly retract it, ”...There’s nothing really, I just wanted to show you some concern.”

Nathalie Quinlan looked at her watch and interrupted him with a look of impatience, ”Mr. Quinlan, my time is limited!”

She certainly didn’t want to waste any of it on him.

Jeff Quinlan’s eyes shone with anger, yet he couldn’t fathom the true background of this fake heiress living in his own home and didn’t dare to further offend her, he hesitated before speaking, ”Nathalie, the company’s been having a very rough time lately. The Pinecone Group suddenly pulled their investment, and our cash flow is disrupted, causing many projects to fall through.”

”I haven’t been able to sleep well these past few days. Your mother and your grandmother too, they’ve been everywhere asking for favors, trying to find out why Mr. Ingram from the Pinecone Group suddenly stopped cooperating with us.”

”I saw you last time at Pinecone Group, you must know Mr. Ingram, right?”

Emilia Sullivan had told them that Nathalie Quinlan couldn’t possibly know a person like Silvania Ingram, but Jeff Quinlan stubbornly believed Nathalie knew Silvania Ingram, not only because he had seen her at Pinecone Group, but also because his intuition kept telling him that he had made a mistake, underestimating the ’cheap daughter’ who had lived in his home for over a decade.

”Nathalie, could you help me, help me arrange a meal with Mr. Ingram?”

Jeff Quinlan’s face was full of earnestness, the corners of his eyes glistening with tears. He looked much older, and it was clear he hadn’t been doing well lately.

”You can definitely do it, right?”

The last time he had asked Nathalie, he had been more hopeful, thinking about how the Pinecone Group used to favor them so much.

If he pleaded with them again, their attitude might soften.

But these past few days, without the Pinecone Group backing them, he could say that he hit a wall at every turn.

The Quinlan family had originally grown and expanded by clinging to the Pinecone Group, and now the business circle had heard the news that they had a falling out with the Pinecone Group. Everyone was extremely pragmatic, and one by one, they stopped cooperating with them.

”Nathalie, just help me arrange a meeting with the boss of Pinecone Group. If the company recovers, it’ll also be beneficial for you when you look for a spouse and get married, won’t it? Even if your biological father has a social status, at the end of the day, he’s just a teacher. If you have a publicly listed company as your family, you’ll have many more options when choosing a marriage partner, I’m thinking of your best interest!”

Nathalie Quinlan had seen those with thick skins like Audrick Zachmann, who would always smile no matter what insults were thrown at them.

But she had never seen someone like him who could even abandon his ”face” so thoroughly. She was truly learning something new.

”Don’t you still have Ghania Quinlan? Why hasn’t Ghania gone to Zayn Fisher to ask the Fisher family to help you arrange a meal with the boss of Pinecone Group?”

The Fisher family ranked among the four great families in McKinney, and even if they were at the bottom of the list, they were still one of the top local elites.

Arranging a dinner, that’s not so difficult.

He had been fine until she mentioned this, but upon bringing it up, Jeff Quinlan felt unable to save face and became extremely uncomfortable, turning his head away, unable to look her in the eye.

”After all, the Fisher family is an outsider, it would be embarrassing to trouble them.”

Nathalie Quinlan left him no dignity, ”Then you’re not embarrassed to trouble me?”

Jeff Quinlan looked awkward, ”...”

In fact, when the trouble started, he had made a phone call to Mrs. Fisher, who flatly refused, even making it clear that her son was only dating Ghania Quinlan and not married, and the Fisher family did not want to get involved in the mess.

Obviously... the entire circle knew their children were dating, and Mrs. Fisher’s words were tantamount to openly looking down on Ghania Quinlan.
