The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 156: Chapter 156: The Outcome of Pretense_1

”Mm.”

Zayn Fisher didn’t even say goodnight to her, he closed the car door, and the car turned around and sped away in the blink of an eye.

Ghania Quinlan was left with a face full of exhaust, clutching her bag strap tightly as she turned and went back to the villa.

The lights in the villa were shining brightly.

No one had rested.

She placed her bag in the hallway and said, ”I’m back.”

She had intended to tell Emilia Sullivan about her encounter with Nathalie Quinlan at the hotel today, but as soon as she entered, she felt an extremely oppressive atmosphere in the living room.

Her dad, her mom, and her grandma were all there.

Many things were smashed on the ground.

The maid they hired held her breath as she quickly swept up the debris with a broom.

Ghania’s heart skipped a beat, and an uneasy thought emerged. She walked in and asked anxiously, ”Mom, what happened? Why is dad...”

Jeff Quinlan’s eyes were bloodshot, he held his head, his suit wrinkled and hanging off his body, the once meticulously combed hair now messy and utterly disheveled.

She had never seen her dad like this before.

Fear and tension filled her heart, ”Could it be that there’s some problem with the company?”

What could be wrong with the company? The Quinlan Family business had the support of Pinecone Group; even a minor issue wouldn’t matter, for as long as Pinecone Group stood firm, they could steadily make money!

Hadn’t it been like this for the past years?

Emilia Sullivan, who used to carry herself with a proud and noble air, appeared flustered for the first time, her gaze distracted and tense as she said to Ghania, ”Ghania, our family’s company, the company... it might be in trouble.”

Ghania felt her heart sink, but still managed a smile, ”How so?”

”Wasn’t our company doing well before? We even signed a big project with Pinecone Group. They delegated us to work on the new cinema they’re opening in McKinney. With this project, we would meet our KPIs for the year.”

They were sure to make a profit.

Each time they won a bid from Pinecone Group, they made a fortune.

Because Pinecone Group always offered them the highest price, and as long as they didn’t go too far, they generally turned a blind eye.

Once, they used a batch of substandard steel and the quality inspections caught them.

They thought they were doomed.

They would not only have to pay a fine but also would no longer be able to cooperate with Pinecone Group.

But Pinecone Group not only didn’t demand compensation, they also paid for the subsequent demolition and rebuilding.

From then on, the industry knew Pinecone Group had a special relationship with them, and Quinlan Real Estate’s backer was Pinecone Group.

Some even speculated whether the boss of Pinecone Group had an improper relationship with her dad.

Only she knew the truth.

Their family had hardly ever met with the higher-ups of Pinecone Group in private; it was usually that secretary who had the most contact with them, and it was that secretary named Jethro Yapiter who relayed messages to them.

Even so, Pinecone Group was inexplicably good to them.

So much so that many companies, envious, tried all sorts of connections to poach from them but could never succeed.

With the support of Pinecone Group, these past years, they went public and mixed where the winds of McKinney blew.

If it weren’t for this, the Fishers, being of such a status, Mrs. Fisher would not have tacitly agreed to her and Zayn Fisher dating.

Without the company, she would have nothing.

Ghania’s heart beat so furiously, it seemed as though it might burst from her chest, she urgently sought confirmation from Emilia Sullivan, ”Mom, you’re lying to me, aren’t you? If the company is in trouble, we can go to Pinecone Group for help. Our relationship with them is so good, they will definitely help us unconditionally.”
