Chapter 189: What Kind of Attitude Is This?

”You’re clearly just making excuses! Do you even know how to win a girl’s heart? Who talks like that?” Zhang Yuxuan took the little red hat from her curly hair and held it in her palm.

With a feigned angry and coquettish demeanor, she watched the little jade rabbit in her arms hop about, and Lin Zifeng actually had some wicked thoughts.

But he soon dismissed the idea of flirting, as she was not some nightclub girl, and if handled poorly, it might lead to trouble later.

Along the way, the two of them had a fairly congenial conversation. After getting to know each other, Lin Zifeng understood roughly what Zhang Yuxuan’s family and life were like, and he also felt quite sorry for her. The sisters had lost their parents at a young age, and this orphan-like upbringing made them more aware of the hardships of life than their peers.

After landing at ten o’clock in the evening, Zhang Yuxuan generously gave Lin Zifeng her phone number and asked him to visit the bar occasionally to chat when he had time, though Lin Zifeng’s thoughts were somewhat strange.

After saying goodbye to Zhang Yuxuan, Lin Zifeng immediately took out his phone to call Nangong Bing first. This lady really knew how to play people; she had arrived in Yanjing ahead of schedule yet left him behind—a truly worrisome woman.

But no one answered the phone after a long while, which made Lin Zifeng’s brow furrow even more. Why wasn’t anyone answering?

Could it be that Nangong Bing was playing a joke on him again?

Lin Zifeng’s brow furrowed even deeper.

After the fourth call, Nangong Bing lazily answered, ”Have you arrived?”

She sounded quite relaxed, while Lin Zifeng’s face instantly darkened.

”I said, Nangong Bing, why didn’t you answer when I called you so many times?” Lin Zifeng got a little angry. This woman was really too much trouble, playing a game of hide and seek after he had already made four or five calls. What if something had happened? How would Lin Zifeng ever explain to Nangong Shui?

”Hello! Hello! Hello! Mr. Lin, what kind of attitude is that? It’s just a phone call, is it necessary to talk to me with that tone? After all, I am your superior; don’t you have the slightest respect?” Seeing Lin Zifeng’s bad tone, Nangong Bing also got anxious. Why should I have to answer just because you call? Who do you think you are? Do you really think you’re my husband or something? If it weren’t for my father insisting on keeping you here, I would have kicked you out a long time ago.

”What about my attitude? Haha! I’m telling you, Nangong Bing, you really have the nerve to talk to me like this? I haven’t even started to settle the score with you yet, and what’s with the plane ticket you got me? An evening flight? Are you having fun?”

Lin Zifeng was also a temperamental person, upset by the way Nangong Bing played him. He had to confront her; at the very least, she should have answered the phone. This isn’t Zhonghai City; this is Yanjing. If something had gone wrong, Lin Zifeng would really have become a criminal.

”You, what’s gotten into you today? Did you eat a bomb?” Being chastised by Lin Zifeng, Nangong Bing’s pretty face flushed red with some feigned anger, thinking: Why can you joke with me, and I can’t joke with you? This way, we’re even, and from now on, we’ll stay out of each other’s way.

But he, of course, had no clue, and even if I, Nangong Bing, made a major mistake, you really have no authority over me, do you?

”Alright! Boss, say whatever you want, but you better just go to sleep honestly.”

Lin Zifeng then hung up directly, feeling very upset, and lit a cigarette, taking a deep inhale. His expression instantly turned extremely cold as he walked alone on the street...

”You! You dare hang up on my call? Mr. Lin, are you deliberately trying to make things difficult for me, Nangong Bing? I was just taking a shower and couldn’t answer the phone. Couldn’t you have been a bit more gentlemanly and asked me about it?”

In the hotel room, Nangong Bing furiously threw her phone onto the bed, mentally cursing Lin Zifeng hundreds of times.

But just then, as Nangong Bing was getting ready to sleep, a few doorbell rings came from outside the room.

Nangong Bing had just lain down, pondering: Could it be that Mr. Lin has found me already? She was somewhat surprised at Lin Zifeng’s speed.

She hurriedly softened her tone a bit and perked up to open the door, only to find two tall men in black standing outside.

”Who are you looking for?”

Upon opening the door and seeing it wasn’t Lin Zifeng, Nangong Bing grew somewhat suspicious.

”Hello, are you Miss Nangong?”

One of the men in black said with a smile.

”Who are you...?”

Nangong Bing was confused; she didn’t seem to have any friends in Yanjing. How would they know her?

”Miss Nangong, our boss would like to invite you over for a sit-down and to have a chat,” one of them said.

”Sorry, it’s late, and I’m not free now. Let’s talk tomorrow,” Nangong Bing said, not particularly taken with these people, as she quickly tried to close the door, but one of the silent, bulky men grabbed it.

”Miss Nangong, you no longer have a choice.”

A cold smile appeared on the man’s face.

”What do you want to do? If you don’t leave now, I’m calling the police!”

”We apologize, Miss Nangong!”

After that, the man in black quickly pulled out a medical syringe from his pocket and injected Nangong Bing’s neck.

...

Fuming, Lin Zifeng was aimlessly wandering the bustling, brightly lit streets, considering letting off some steam at a nightclub. However, he was on a mission to ensure Nangong Bing’s safety, so he couldn’t afford any carelessness.

After all, the old man was paying him a hefty sum of a hundred thousand each month! Even if not for the sake of their relationship, the money alone was enough to keep Lin Zifeng committed.

Following the hotel address Nangong Bing had sent him earlier, Lin Zifeng took a stroll outside, feeling a bit worn and sore from his fight with Zhang Biao that morning.

So, he took a taxi back to the hotel.

As Lin Zifeng got out of the taxi and was about to enter the hotel, he spotted two men in black suits carrying a black garbage bag, hurriedly walking out. Their rushed steps and furtive glances led Lin Zifeng to suspect they were up to no good.

Lin Zifeng decided not to meddle in what seemed to be none of his business, preferring to take a good bath back in his room, and it would surely be more enjoyable to chat about life with Nangong Bing.

Picking up Nangong Bing’s room card at the front desk, Lin Zifeng followed the directions given by a hotel attendant and made his way to the room she had arranged for him.

Seeing that Nangong Bing’s room wasn’t far from his, Lin Zifeng knocked cautiously, but there was no response for quite a long time, and repeated phone calls went unanswered, despite the phone ringing on the other end.

”What’s going on?”

Lin Zifeng took a couple of steps back, frowning in confusion but, with his keen eyes, he soon spotted something awry.

A half-used syringe was left at the door!

Could she be in trouble?

Without a second thought, Lin Zifeng kicked open Nangong Bing’s door only to find no signs of disturbance. Could it be...?

Lin Zifeng ran outside immediately.

When he entered the hotel, he had noted something peculiar about those two men in black. Could they have taken Nangong Bing?
