Chapter 172: Those who shouldn’t have left, did

Lin Yulong approached like a sycophant, setting off firecrackers and fireworks, making it seem even happier than a wedding.

Even today’s guests eagerly moved forward to greet.

One after another, they surrounded the BMW, in full flattery toward the car owner.

As the car owner got out, Zifeng and the others promptly handed cigarettes to him.

And their bootlicking skills immensely pleased the guest.

The visitor was a man in his thirties, quite famous in the area back in the day, with some ties to Old Liu.

Previously, he was very well-known around here, and his relationship with Old Liu was not shallow.

And he was also one of the good friends Lin Zifeng knew back then!

His name was Gao Yunchong, a rather tall man, who valued loyalty, and was one of Lin Zifeng’s close friends during their days together. Over the years, with his cleverness, he had not fared badly in the town and its surrounding communities.

Thanks to the foundation laid by his brothers, he was now doing quite well, comfortably holding his territory for the past five years. In this area, he had a substantial reputation, and the local bosses would often pay him to settle unresolved issues.

Moreover, he had deep connections with the local authorities. It was said that his wife was the daughter of the second in command at the police station, allowing him to wield significant influence locally.

Lin Yulong invited him today mostly to showcase his power in front of these small-time bosses.

He wanted them to know that Lin Yulong was not someone to be trifled with in the Martial Arts World.

But after all the niceties and flattery, Gao Yunchong showed him little attention.

He headed straight into the hall, took his seat without a word, and his inherent pride made everyone tremble. They all hurriedly brought tea and water, handed over cigarettes and liquor.

Fearing they would be left out and get a cold shoulder.

”Big Brother Gao, having you here today is a real blessing for me, Lin Yulong, in this life! This drink is to honor Big Brother Gao. If there’s anything less than perfect today, please, bear with me,”

Lin Yulong’s art of flattering was indeed top-notch.

His round, chubby face, usually stern, managed to squeeze out a smile, his fatty and disgusting cheeks shining greasily as if smeared with lard, clearly indicating that he had made quite a lot of money these years.

Gao Yunchong glanced at him coldly, then picked up his drink and began to sip it indifferently.

His attitude was openly dismissive.

But those present, fat and well-off as they were, continued to lavish him with flattery, fearing lest Gao Yunchong’s displeasure might spell disaster for them this year. Should any trouble arise, would he lend a hand?

They had to think not just of the present but also of the future. After all, no matter the place, it’s about connections and having someone to cover for you.

Otherwise, breaking into any line of work was merely a dream.

Sitting in a corner, Lin Zifeng seemed to have finished eating as well. As he tapped his full stomach, preparing to leave, Gao Yunchong, who had been silent thus far, had actually noticed his presence long ago. But since Lin Zifeng had his back to him, Gao Yunchong was just puzzled. The moment Lin Zifeng turned his head, Gao Yunchong almost gasped in shock!

Seeing Lin Zifeng lazily burping from his drinks, Lin Yulong nearly burst into flames.

He thought furiously: ’This poor jerk, you never came back early or late, but you had to pick the time when I’m hosting a banquet. If it weren’t for the others present, I’d have you taken care of.’

”Cousin, the food’s not bad, but the drink is awful. This Moutai is fake, definitely watered down. Don’t ever buy from a little supermarket again, it’s easy to get ripped off,”

Lin Zifeng wiped his mouth and picked his teeth with a toothpick, looking flushed and content.

Lin Yulong was so infuriated he almost smashed the bench over his head.

”Finish eating and get out, get out, get out! Don’t block the way here,”

said Lin Yulong, hastening to pull at Lin Zifeng’s clothes, grimacing in disgust.

But just as Lin Yulong was about to step forward and grab Lin Zifeng’s clothes, Gao Yunchong, who had been quietly observing everything, suddenly stood up.

”Stop!”

For such a burly man, his shout alone was enough to sound like the bellow of a cow and a tiger’s roar.

Everyone was startled.

They thought Gao Yunchong was displeased.

All eyes turned abruptly towards Gao Yunchong, even Lin Yulong was somewhat confused.

But Lin Zifeng alone appeared calm, his face filled with a sunny smile.

”Lin... Brother Lin? Is it you, Brother Lin?” Gao Yunchong suddenly stood up, his voice trembling, his throat dry, his eyes wide as if bulging.

Everyone was baffled, their gazes shifting between Lin Zifeng and Gao Yunchong.

Seeing Gao Yunchong call a mere security guard ’Brother Lin’, everyone was utterly confused.

How could such a significant figure in the Martial Arts World call an unknown security guard ’Brother Lin’? How esteemed must this security guard be?

Even Lin Yulong, caught in the middle, was stunned.

If it weren’t Lin Zifeng standing here but someone else, Lin Yulong might have still believed it, but now it was his own good-for-nothing cousin, whom even his dearly regarded Gao Yunchong was addressing as Brother Lin!

This, this unimaginable turn of events left Lin Yulong dumbfounded!

He was more aware of Lin Zifeng’s background than anyone else. He used to mix in the Martial Arts World with him back in his hometown, but who would have thought Lin Zifeng had risen to the rank even Gao Yunchong, a big shot in the Martial Arts World, had to call him brother?

To what extent had he mixed?

”Smack!”

A crisp slap echoed throughout the whole venue!

A bloody red handprint instantly formed on Lin Yulong’s face, completely dazing him with his mouth full of fresh blood. Covering his face that clearly bore the handprint, Lin Yulong felt as if it was all a dream.

Even the guests at the venue were shocked by Gao Yunchong’s explosive action.

Meanwhile, Lin Zifeng glared at Gao Yunchong with eyes sharp as arrows, as if blaming him.

Gao Yunchong quickly stepped forward and rushed to Lin Zifeng, wrapping him in a bear hug without a word, excitedly saying, ”Bro Lin, when did you get back? Why didn’t you let your brothers know? Do you know how much we’ve missed you?”

Despite Gao Yunchong’s tall stature, standing there like a big bear, he was almost in tears in front of Lin Zifeng, a man in his twenties. It was indeed a funny sight to see a man in his thirties tear up like that.

Miss me? Ha! If they missed me, Liu Laowu wouldn’t have turned my house into a den, nor would they have demolished that old house of mine.

If they missed me, why didn’t they inquire about me? If they missed me, why didn’t they protect my good house?

Lin Zifeng sneered inwardly.

For these old timers in the Martial Arts World, who were so good at surface acts, Lin Zifeng scoffed at them while sneering inwardly.

In the past, both Gao Yunchong and Liu Laowu had been Lin Zifeng’s right-hand men. Five years had passed, and now everyone was thriving, going their own ways.

The reason Gao Yunchong approached with such a pained expression was largely his fear of Lin Zifeng, for not long ago, Liu Laowu and his subordinates were found dead at home, their deaths extremely gruesome.

Especially his subordinate, who was slowly tortured to death. His entire jaw was shattered, the methods cruel.

And Liu Laowu was silently poisoned to death by drugs.

All this was intentionally done by Lin Zifeng. Remembering their past brotherhood, Lin Zifeng had drugged Liu Laowu’s drink as he left, not wanting him to die in agony. That was the least he could do.

And Liu Laowu’s death coincided exactly with Lin Zifeng’s return, leading Gao Yunchong to always suspect that the real culprit was Lin Zifeng.

So these days were quite restless for him, but he never expected to run into Lin Zifeng here today, and Gao Yunchong’s fear grew even more.

He feared Lin Zifeng’s revenge, because after Lin Zifeng disappeared, Gao Yunchong drained all the money from his bank cards and even changed the passwords.

Therefore, the appearance of Lin Zifeng was completely an unexpected variable.

”Didn’t I come back? We can just find a place and chat casually. Let’s not make such a fuss. I don’t want to be picked up by the cops as soon as I return,” Lin Zifeng joked.

”Uh... hahaha, Bro Lin is still so humorous,” Gao Yunchong first froze, then quickly caught on.

...

The two chatted briefly, and then at Gao Yunchong’s invitation, they left chatting and laughing, with Gao Yunchong affectionately calling him ’Bro Lin’ repeatedly, making outsiders think they were real brothers.

Unfortunately, Lin Yulong still didn’t understand their relationship up to now, even feeling that the slap he received was utterly perplexing and somewhat unjust.

Under the gaze of so many people, he even felt like dying.

Seeing Lin Zifeng leave in Gao Yunchong’s BMW, Lin Yulong bitterly covered his face, whispering sullenly, ”The ones who shouldn’t have left have left.”

The friends who had initially stayed to play the role of peacemakers, upon hearing Lin Yulong’s words, promptly bid him farewell.

Claiming they had things to handle at home, they couldn’t even be stopped.

Angry, Lin Yulong hurriedly explained, ”I was not talking about you guys.”

But the relatives and friends behind him, upon hearing this, also left with unfriendly expressions.

At this, Lin Yulong became exasperated.

But he couldn’t stop them, and all this was caused by the disaster that was Lin Zifeng, making Lin Yulong angrily exclaim, ”The one who should have left didn’t leave, and the ones who shouldn’t have left are gone.”

As a result, the last group of friends also bid farewell.

Lin Yulong was nearly driven mad. What bad luck had befallen him today? What had he done wrong?

Looking at the empty house and seeing his wife standing at the door, staring in the direction Lin Zifeng had left, Lin Yulong wished he could just die.

...

Around seven in the evening, at a fish pond on the outskirts, a BMW 7 Series parked by the river.

Lin Zifeng and Gao Yunchong were sitting on the car roof.

Both men hung their heads, smoking cigarettes, each lost in their thoughts.

It took a while before Lin Zifeng broke the silence and indifferently asked, ”Did you take all my savings? And you also had a hand in demolishing my old house, right?”
