Chapter 150: The First Time Given to a Man

In order to evade Old Man Nangong’s probing questions, Lin Zifeng thought it best to leave the home early.

Seeing that the day was still young, it was only half past six in the morning, and there were vendors selling breakfast on the roadside, he decided to pick up some food for the security brothers. After all, the migrant workers going into the city to work were not living too optimistically, as everyone who leaves home just wants to earn more money for their wives, children, and parents, and life outside was indeed quite tough.

”Boss, give me fifty buns.”

As he saw a bun shop exuding a delicious aroma, Lin Zifeng quickly walked over. Speaking of buns, his heart felt a tinge of sentimentality. In the past, around this time every day, wasn’t his mother also bringing him here to eat buns?

Every time he remembered his mother’s kind and beautiful face, a sense of sadness would inexplicably arise in Lin Zifeng’s heart. Seeing a young mother next to the bun shop with a cute porcelain doll-like little girl, the scene seemed to trigger certain memories for Lin Zifeng.

”Mommy, I won’t eat the meat, I’ll eat the skin, and you can eat the filling, okay?”

The little girl’s delicate voice was incredibly endearing, and the young mother stroked the little one’s head, smiling tenderly, ”Okay, okay. You eat the skin, and I’ll eat the filling.”

”Hee hee, that’s great.” The little girl sported a bob haircut, dressed in a cartoonish mother-child outfit, with eyes as lively and delicate as a pair of gems.

Seeing this scene, Lin Zifeng’s eyes grew even more moist.

Once upon a time, hadn’t he too been part of a scene just like this one? Unfortunately, all that was now gone. His parents were honest and simple rural folks, and Lin Zifeng simply could not fathom why they had suddenly disappeared. And this disappearance had lasted for five years, without a single word from them.

Thinking of this, Lin Zifeng’s heart twisted in pain.

At that moment, the little girl’s clear and bright gaze mischievously swept toward Lin Zifeng, and seeing the moisture in his eyes, she was touched. In her innocent kindness, she walked towards Lin Zifeng with a bun in her wobbly hands.

Blinking her innocuous big eyes, she said, ”Uncle, why are you crying? Is it because you have no buns to eat? Here, Uncle, have this bun.”

The little girl was exceptionally cute, especially her eyes that were clear and transparent, free of any impurities.

Instantly, Lin Zifeng felt an urge to laugh.

So she felt sorry for him.

Seeing her own daughter approaching Lin Zifeng with a bun, the young mother was instantly joyful and nodded at Lin Zifeng with a smile.

Lin Zifeng also nodded politely back at her, then revealed a bright smile and said, ”If I eat it, what will you eat?”

Seeing Lin Zifeng turn from tears to smiles, the little one was very pleased, raising her little pink fists and said in a milky voice, ”Uncle, don’t worry, I still have more, and if it’s not enough, I’ll ask Mom to buy some more.”

The little one was missing two front teeth, clearly a sign of having enjoyed too much sugar, and she was at the stage of losing her baby teeth.

Even her speech was slightly whistling.

Seeing Lin Zifeng glance at her missing front teeth, the little one quickly covered her mouth with her hand and asked, ”Uncle, what are you looking at?”

Ha ha, what a cute little one. Yet Lin Zifeng didn’t want to point it out, for even if the little one had flaws now, they shouldn’t be directly pointed out. It would not be good for her future growth.

”Uncle won’t eat this bun. How about Uncle buys you some buns later?”

Lin Zifeng picked up the little girl, admiring her exquisite features, and thought to himself that she would surely grow into a stunning beauty.

”Come, give Uncle a kiss.”

Being picked up by Lin Zifeng, the little girl was a bit at a loss, blinking her tearful eyes at her mother, then said seriously, ”No kiss!”

”...?”

Lin Zifeng was taken aback! One moment all was fine, and the next, she changed her mind.

Had he made a mistake by picking her up, or was she displeased because he had not asked for permission first?

”Mommy said that a girl’s first time should not be given to a man casually; otherwise, you would have to take responsibility.”

”Pfft...!”

Lin Zifeng burst into laughter, seeing the little one still looking serious, as if to say he wasn’t the man of her dreams, almost making him laugh out loud. It was just too funny.

Looking back at her young mother, even though the woman wasn’t particularly striking, she had a slender figure and was neatly dressed.

Her pretty face also blushed instantly, not expecting her precious daughter to suddenly come out with such a prankish remark. It was simply too amusing.

After putting the little girl down, Lin Zifeng went straight to the bun shop, ordered some buns, and cheerfully handed them to the little girl.

”Uncle is treating you to buns.”

”No! Mommy said not to take things from strangers casually.”

The little rascal struck a seriously solemn pose once more, puffing up her cheeks with the defiance of someone refusing to be swayed.

Lin Zifeng was amused all over again.

In the end, with no other choice, Lin Zifeng still handed over the buns to her mom. The young mother accepted the buns Lin Zifeng offered with a smile and walked away gracefully.

After receiving the steamed buns from the bakery owner, Lin Zifeng’s phone in his pocket started ringing again.

Pulling out his cell phone and looking at the unknown number on the screen, Lin Zifeng couldn’t recall whose it was.

He casually pressed the answer button and said cheerfully, ”Hello, who’s this?”

There was silence on the other end of the line for a while, with no response, regardless of how many times Lin Zifeng called out.

This person is really boring, calling someone and then not saying anything for so long, a rare oddity in the world, Lin Zifeng thought to himself.

Just as he was about to hang up, a timid, gentle voice came from the other end, ”Is this... Lin Zifeng?”

Clearly, the caller was a young girl, with a voice filled with subtlety but still warm and gentle.

Lin Zifeng suddenly perked up. Could it be that as I walk down the main street, some mysterious beauty is calling me? Such a wonderful thing happening is just too blissful.

”Who are you?” Lin Zifeng asked heartily.

”Lin... Lin Zifeng, it’s Li Lin,” the caller responded.

Li Lin? The pesky shadow from the house next door? Lin Zifeng searched through his memories.

It had been a long time since he last went home. He never expected the tail that used to follow him around would take the initiative to call him.

”Oh! So it’s Teacher Li. What an honor!”

Lin Zifeng teased on purpose.

”Pfft! Lin Zifeng, you’re so annoying, what ’Teacher Li’ and whatnot,” Li Lin protested petulantly, her dissatisfaction clear.

”What’s up, Linlin? What made you think to call me today?” Actually, as he asked these questions, Lin Zifeng was purposely thickening his skin. He vividly remembered,

the last time he was home, while visiting at Li Linlin’s place, he accidentally saw her in the shower when he went to use the restroom. He felt guilty for a long time about that incident, planning to let the memory fade over time. But to his surprise, she had taken the initiative to call him.

”Lin Zifeng, how come you haven’t come to see us in so many days? Have you forgotten about Linlin that quickly?”

”Er... I’ve been busy, completely worn out, with no time to make it back,” Lin Zifeng derided his own behavior inwardly. What exactly had he been busy with these days? Besides tussling with a few women, he honestly didn’t know what he’d been busy with.

”No matter how busy you are, you need to take care of yourself. Do you have time tonight, Lin Zifeng? Can you come back?”

It seemed like Li Lin thought long and hard before finally making up her mind. She was determined to have her Lin Zifeng come over for dinner tonight, no matter what. After their last abrupt goodbye, Li Lin harbored lingering resentment—he had left without a proper farewell, not giving them time to reminisce. It had been five years since they last met.

”Tonight?”

”What’s the matter, Lin Zifeng? You don’t have time tonight? If you’re really busy, then forget it—maybe some other time,” Li Lin’s voice grew uncomfortable towards the end, tinged with a slight sense of disappointment. Today was her birthday, and she just wanted Lin Zifeng to come over for a good meal together. Yet she didn’t want him to spend money on her, so the considerate girl didn’t reveal her intentions.

”OK! I’ll definitely come back tonight,” Lin Zifeng said, hearing the slight disappointment in Li Lin’s voice, not wanting to hurt her feelings. After all, the Li family and his own had been old neighbors, and ever since she was little, she’d loved trailing behind him. Five years had flown by, so it was only right for him to go back. Even though Li Lin’s dad had swindled him out of over two hundred thousand yuan, that had nothing to do with her, and Lin Zifeng wasn’t short on money these days anyway.

”That’s settled then. You have to come tonight, Lin Zifeng. I’ll make lots of dishes that you like and wait for you,” she said.

Upon hearing Lin Zifeng’s agreement, the young girl cheered silently, her spirits high.

After hanging up the phone, Lin Zifeng continued on the crowded, directionless bus. A dozen minutes later, he arrived at Tianyu, rushing to the security department with a big bag of steamed buns and soy milk—breakfast for everyone. Along the way, he generously offered a few buns to every colleague from the security department, regardless if they’d had breakfast or not, just wanting to brighten everyone’s day. Lin Zifeng had bought a ton of buns, after all.

Now, Lin Zifeng was a well-known figure in the security department, and his popularity was at its peak. If it had been the old days and he had come in with a big bag of buns like today, he might have gotten kicked out long ago.

As he walked into the security department with the buns, he set off a bun frenzy. In no time, they were snatched up, leaving only two that nobody fought over. After all, they were bought by Lin Zifeng and everyone thought it right to leave them for him.

While everyone was happily munching on buns and sharing risqué jokes, Mu Yang, for some reason, decided to sashay over to the security department, hips swinging, clutching her briefcase.

Under the dumbstruck gazes of the security personnel, she went straight to the desk, picked up the two remaining buns, and bit into one.

She giggled, ”Did you buy these?”

Last night’s events had already been surprising enough for everyone, and they hardly expected that just a day later, this woman would come looking for Lin Zifeng again.

Seeing this, everyone discreetly moved aside, both resigned and somewhat envious as they quietly gossiped.
