Chapter 174: Boss, Don’t Scare Me

After everything was settled, calls bombarded Li Lin one after another like a blitz of bombs.

They had agreed to have dinner at her place today, yet so many things had happened from the afternoon until now. It seemed that the disturbances in her hometown were more numerous than in the city, especially with Lin Zifeng just returning. One issue followed another—big and small, and crucially, he knew a lot of people there.

It was around xx o’clock in the evening when Lin Zifeng finally hurried to Li Lin’s home.

As Lin Zifeng was about to knock, the inside was already bustling with noise and ceaseless cheers. It looked like some kind of banquet was being held, probably with school leaders from Li Lin’s school present. Lin Zifeng’s raised arm gradually lowered.

Li Lin was a high school teacher at the City No.1 Middle School, like her mother, both gardeners of the future’s young blossoms.

Her prospects were boundless.

Looking at his own attire, a low-class, unimpressive security guard uniform, Lin Zifeng thought it better not to enter, to avoid causing a fuss. Having a relative or friend dressed as a security guard really wouldn’t reflect well on Li Lin. Better to part ways for now; time was on their side. It might be a better choice to take her out some other time when he had the chance. Moreover, Li Lin’s father, Li Tian, was not an easy man to deal with. Better to steer clear and avoid being scorned by everyone.

Lin Zifeng didn’t even knock. He simply turned around and headed back home.

However, just as Lin Zifeng was leaving, before he could start his car, Li Lin’s call came through.

”Zifeng Brother, why haven’t you arrived yet? We’ve been waiting for you for ages, where did you run off to?”

Li Lin’s dissatisfied voice came through from the other end of the phone.

Sitting in the car, Lin Zifeng, with an embarrassed face, chuckled sheepishly, ”Heh, about that... Linlin, I just ran into a bit of trouble, so I can’t make it tonight. Let’s, let’s get together some other time, alright?”

”Liar! You clearly promised you would come tonight, why did you change your mind? Could it be, could it be that you don’t want to see Linlin anymore?”

Towards the end, Li Lin’s voice weakened. It seemed she was unhappy.

”How could that be! How could I not want to see Linlin? It’s been so many years since we last met, and I’ve missed you terribly since our hurried goodbye last time.”

Speaking of their last encounter, Lin Zifeng was internally agitated!

He vividly remembered the awkward incident in the restroom last time; Li Lin was showering at home, and he had inadvertently seen her, which made Lin Zifeng feel extremely remorseful. Why did he have to go to the restroom right then? Neither earlier nor later?

Miss me? Really missed me? Could it be that Brother Zifeng truly ran into some trouble tonight?

Hearing Lin Zifeng’s mushy words, Li Lin’s cheeks flushed, and having had a bit of alcohol tonight, she looked even more enchanting. If Lin Zifeng were there, he would undoubtedly be captivated by her shy expression. Unfortunately, today was Li Lin’s birthday, and she hadn’t made it clear to Lin Zifeng, otherwise he would have definitely attended.

”Brother Zifeng, do you really miss me in your heart?”

”Of course! I miss you so much that I get constipated even going to the bathroom, how could I not miss you?”

What was initially a pleasant conversation ended up spoiled by Lin Zifeng’s mood-killing crude remark.

”Gross, Brother Zifeng, your words are so disgusting.”

Uh... that’s considered disgusting? Then the guys in the security room must be utterly repulsive.

Lin Zifeng was embarrassed beyond words, never having expected the young lady’s tolerance to be so poor. But then again, she was a teacher at the well-known City No.1 Middle School, undoubtedly much more sophisticated than him, a mere high school graduate.

After some simple exchanges to warm her heart, Lin Zifeng, in order to stabilize her mood, could only coax and deceive her into agreeing to meet for a meal in the next few days, thus settling this missed appointment.

After hanging up, Lin Zifeng sighed deeply. Women really are more troublesome than men.

Especially beautiful women. They truly wore him out.

In his utter boredom, Lin Zifeng finished smoking a cigarette, listened to some music in the car, and hurried home as time was running out. Heaven only knows if Nangong Bing would check the garage today and possibly call the police.

...

Meanwhile, after handling the company’s affairs, Nangong Bing hurried to the hospital to see how things were going with Fan Jian. But hearing that Lin Zifeng had fled halfway, Nangong Bing was so furious that her fingers turned deathly pale, and she wished she could strangle Lin Zifeng!

Faking illness had even extended to the company. Setting aside Fan Jian’s situation, Lin Zifeng leaving work without permission under the guise of illness was enough to get this corporate parasite fired hundreds of times over.

But when she got home, her father flatly refused to fire Lin Zifeng. In the end, no matter how much she argued with her father, she couldn’t win.

But just as Lin Zifeng walked through the door, Nangong Bing, with her arms crossed in frustration and nowhere to vent, saw her chance now that he had delivered himself to her doorstep.

She rushed up to him, furiously demanding, ”Did you run off from the ambulance today, Mr. Lin?”

”Yes.”

”Did you skip work for the entire day?”

”Yes.”

”Are you pretending to be sick?”

”No!”

Lin Zifeng seriously and honestly answered every stern question from Nangong Bing.

”What! You’re not pretending to be sick?”

”Do I have an illness?”

”You’re not sick?” Nangong Bing found it amusing. A guy who’s not sick pretends to faint at the sight of blood in the company? If that’s not being sick, what is?

Seeing the two start fighting the moment they entered the room, the little girl Hua Buqi blinked her big eyes and, together with the old fox Nangong Shui, quickly tiptoed upstairs, fearing the fight between the two might hurt the innocent.

Especially that old guy Nangong Shui, even his way of fleeing the scene was with shrugged shoulders, just like a thief.

”You’re the one who’s sick!”

Lin Zifeng countered directly. He wasn’t about to cozy up to her. Things had to be as they should, and if he kept trying to please her, God knows what schemes she might concoct to torment me, Lin Zifeng thought to himself.

”You dare to curse me?”

Nangong Bing was instantly stunned, feeling as if she’d heard the most dreadful news in the world. All her life, she had never been so bluntly cursed. Even her own father had never cursed her, and now she had been cursed by a mere security guard! Nangong Bing almost thought this man’s brain was truly different from others. Could she have heard wrong?

”I didn’t curse you.”

Lin Zifeng pulled out a cigarette, saying earnestly.

”You’re still saying you didn’t curse me? What did you just say?”

Nangong Bing almost went mad. She was so close to grabbing the fruit platter on the sofa and smashing it on this bastard’s head. He had clearly just called her sick, and now he was seriously claiming he didn’t? Could it be that he developed early-onset Alzheimer’s at such a young age?

”Sorry, I’m very tired today, please could you run a bath for me, boss?”

Run a bath? Run your dead head! Would I, Nangong Bing, run a bath for you? Don’t even think about it.

Lin Zifeng just sat down on the sofa, unconcerned about Nangong Bing’s smoldering anger. He freely smoked his cigarette, relaxed and carefree, thick-skinned to the extent of ignoring everything around him. He picked up an apple that Nangong Bing had just washed and started eating it voraciously, not treating himself as an outsider at all, as if he was at his own home.

He completely transformed into a man who ate a woman’s food, drank a woman’s beverages, lived in a woman’s house, used a woman’s things, and even the expenses he incurred from work were covered by a woman. What infuriated her even more was that Nangong Bing owed him a security attendance bonus, and he even made her write an IOU for it!

This world actually harbored such an outrageous person, Nangong Bing almost fainted on the spot.

Furious, her delicate face dark with anger, but still considering her ladylike image, Nangong Bing was torn between exploding with rage and keeping her composure. It put her in a difficult position, and being so upset that her chest trembled wasn’t easy to endure.

You outrageous bastard! Eating my food, drinking my drinks, living in my house, using my things, and you still say I’m sick? I, Nangong Bing, have never suffered such humiliation. Could it be that I owed you in my past life? You, you even ate the apples I just bought from the supermarket! If I don’t fire you tomorrow, I’ll take your last name!

Nangong Bing stood with hands on her hips, her pretty eyes fierce, staring at the laid-back Lin Zifeng. She used all her strength to manage her burgeoning rage.

But the calmer she tried to appear, the more smug Lin Zifeng’s behavior became.

”Hmm, boss, the apples you bought are really not bad, very sweet and crisp. Buy some more tomorrow, huh. I’m full now, I’ll go take a shower. We can talk more tomorrow if there’s anything else. I’m too tired today.”

Lin Zifeng carelessly ran towards the bathroom.

”You stop right there! I haven’t finished talking yet. If you dare to take another step, you’re out of here with me tomorrow!”

Nangong Bing finally couldn’t hold back anymore. The anger she had been suppressing for a long time finally erupted today. Despite usually being cold and aloof, she was completely different at home.

Especially when it came to domestic affairs.

At this point, Lin Zifeng had undoubtedly crossed her line.

”Hehe, boss, you might as well stop threatening me. If you were going to fire me, you would have done it already, why wait until today?”

Lin Zifeng shamelessly flashed a row of pearly white teeth, infuriating Nangong Bing so much that she stomped her foot, prepared to rush forward and drag him out. But unexpectedly, Lin Zifeng’s speed at undressing was absolutely top-notch.

In no time, his upper body clothes were almost completely off, revealing a muscular, tanned chest.

And the lines were clear, a perfectly standard Adonis belt.

Just as Lin Zifeng was about to take off his trousers, just then, Nangong Bing burst in.

She ran right into Lin Zifeng as he was turning his back to her to take off his pants!.
