Chapter 171: The Sister-in-Law I Haven’t Seen in Years

Although Lin Zifeng had a vague relationship with Qian Yifei during those innocent teenage years, after many years had passed, Lin Zifeng was fine. However, seeing the person he once pursued so earnestly standing alive and well before him, Qian Yifei’s heart pounded wildly, her beautiful face shimmering with a tinge of melancholy.

Unfortunately, the former high school beauty had long since become a married woman and, moreover, his cousin’s wife; by seniority, he still had to call her ’sister-in-law’.

Sometimes, it was indeed quite laughable.

Fortunately, back in the day, Lin Zifeng had not been too serious about Qian Yifei; otherwise, their meeting now would have been really awkward.

Looking at Qian Yifei’s helpless demeanor, and her face that had gradually lost its youthful sheen and turned into a mature visage over time, Lin Zifeng could only give a bitter smile in his heart.

”When, when did you come back?”

Qian Yifei was dressed like a housewife, which gave off a very intimate warmth.

”Oh, I’ve been back for a few days. I had nothing to do today, so I came out for a walk and stopped by to see how my family’s home was doing,” Lin Zifeng replied.

”Oh! Then, when are you leaving?”

”I’ll be leaving in a little while. I came today to check on my cousin, and never expected that you would become my sister-in-law,” said Lin Zifeng with an enduring bitter smile.

What was even more awkward was that in those green high school days, although Lin Zifeng hadn’t stood out too much, a woman had always loved him deeply, which was truly rare. Most importantly, Qian Yifei back then was ranked the tenth beauty in the whole school. Although the beauty of high school days was different from the beauty he perceived now, Qian Yifei indeed had attractive features.

Looking at Lin Zifeng’s resolute yet bitter smile, Qian Yifei pursed her lips, her emotions more of heartache. The more she heard Lin Zifeng refer to her as his sister-in-law, the more Qian Yifei’s heart felt as if it was being sliced open.

Back then, when Lin Zifeng was forced to drop out of school, he used to hang around with the well-known thugs in the town. She had tried to persuade him many times, but every time Lin Zifeng returned, he would be injured. As time passed, their innocent relationship developed some differences, and not long after Lin Zifeng mysteriously disappeared, Qian Yifei would often go to his house to wander around. Then, as she wandered, she met Lin Zifeng’s current cousin, Lin Yulong.

As time went by, Qian Yifei ended up dating Lin Yulong, and they had gotten married and had children in the past two years.

She thought she would never see Lin Zifeng again in her life, but the world was too small, fate played tricks on people, and heaven made a huge joke with Lin Zifeng once more.

Allowing the two to meet again.

Looking at Lin Zifeng’s lazy demeanor and his careless gestures, Qian Yifei felt overwhelming resentment in her heart.

Why didn’t she wait for him to come back? Why, when he left, didn’t he leave any news for her, or a reason worth waiting for?

But Lin Zifeng simply disappeared without a trace, and that disappearance lasted for five years.

Now, his quiet return had once again stirred up memories Qian Yifei had almost forgotten.

Although Lin Zifeng felt awkward now, he harbored no inappropriate thoughts. After all, five years ago, he had already told Qian Yifei that it was impossible between them. Lin Zifeng had never really liked Qian Yifei—not because she wasn’t good enough, but because he felt no attraction to her. Love was about destiny, a one-sided love was bound to be merely one’s personal sentiment.

”I, I and your cousin...”

As she spoke, Qian Yifei’s mature and charming face turned somewhat bitter.

Clutching a cloth in her hand, she kept twisting the corner, but just didn’t know how to respond to Lin Zifeng’s words.

”Congratulations to my sister-in-law. When can you add a little nephew for us? As an uncle, I’ll definitely give my future nephew a big red envelope,” said Lin Zifeng.

Lin Zifeng had thought that seeing her as a married woman would surely infuriate him, but to his surprise, Lin Zifeng didn’t mention it at all—as if nothing was amiss.

Could it be—he really isn’t angry?

Qian Yifei felt a bit scared. Lin Zifeng seemed all smiles now, but who knew what he’d be like if he became furious.

”You, you... are you angry?”

Qian Yifei lowered her voice to a whisper, so faint that only she could hear it. Especially after hearing Lin Zifeng talk about them having children, Qian Yifei shuddered.

”Hehe, what’s there for me to be angry about? As long as you two love each other, that’s better than anything. I don’t have time to get angry—instead, I wish you both well. Let’s not talk about the past, sister-in-law. How have you been these past years?”

To be honest, Lin Zifeng actually wished them well. After all, they were the ones suited for each other. If Qian Yifei had chosen him in the past, heaven knows what might have become of them. Now, she’s living a good life with his cousin.

Better to avoid trouble than to seek it.

”Yifei, is all the food ready? Our big brother is coming soon, are you prepared?”

At that moment, Lin Yulong, who had been quietly observing them, approached with a sinister air. Qian Yifei was chatting with Lin Zifeng, and almost instinctively, Yulong’s fists clenched with a crackling sound.

He had heard about the affair between Lin Zifeng and his wife, and although years had passed, he had thought Lin Zifeng would never return. Yet here was this man who should not have appeared.

”Cousin, I wish you rolling wealth, success in your endeavors, great fortune, and swift financial gains.”

At this time, Lin Zifeng stood up out of politeness to offer his congratulations.

”Hmph!”

Lin Yulong gave Lin Zifeng a cold glance, snorted, and with a meaningful look, Qian Yifei left with a displeased expression.

As she left, she sent an apologetic glance towards Lin Zifeng.

Seeing that Lin Yulong was still as hot-tempered as before, Lin Zifeng didn’t say anything. He simply continued to play the honest man, eating heartily at the dining table on his own. After all, today was his family’s treat, and he might as well fill up first.

Today, Lin Yuyou was hosting a banquet to celebrate reaching another pinnacle in his career. Naturally, he invited numerous business associates and friends, and they didn’t go to a hotel for the event because it was traditional to host banquets at home.

Therefore, almost all the guests were friends of Lin Yulong from the business field, with one special guest, the last one to be invited today. Without this person, Lin Yulong would not have reached the position he enjoys today. As discussed by a group of young bosses outside just now, it seems to be someone quite formidable in this region. Now almost all the guests had arrived, just waiting for this one. The collective anticipation suggested this person must be quite significant.

But Lin Zifeng wasn’t interested in meddling with that and was focused on eating his fill first, as he still had to visit Li Lin’s house later while it wasn’t too late.

However, Lin Zifeng’s actions at the feast drew a lot of gossip and finger-pointing.

Even Lin Yulong was so angry he dared not explode in front of so many people. Having such a relative was indeed embarrassing.

Lin Zifeng knew his arrogant cousin looked down on him and decided to let him look down as much as he wished.

However, not long after, a common BMW car roared towards them at a high speed.
