Chapter 159: Chapter 162: Disguised as a Beast

Chapter 162: The Disguised Beast

Just as Zhang Xixi imagined what Lin Zifeng would look like after the scalding and what kind of terrible events might happen,

Lin Zifeng, who had been eating his meal heartily, was completely unaware of the oncoming boiling water.

In an instant, Fan Jian’s face drastically changed as he fantasized about what a sorry bird Lin Zifeng would turn into after the scalding, and at the thought of his incessant screams and pig-like howling, Fan Jian felt a secret thrill of pleasure. He even concocted a reasonable excuse for why he’d burned Lin Zifeng and felt pleased about it. However, before his smile could fade, Lin Zifeng suddenly picked up his utensils, spun around, and somehow, a cup of boiling water beautifully arced back at him!

In an instant, Fan Jian’s face, twisted with excitement, became unpredictably volatile, and even his eyes, widened from excitement, were frightened to the point of being dull and lightless.

A cup of scalding water viciously attacked back toward Fan Jian’s mouth.

With a ”pfft” sound, the steaming hot water doused Fan Jian’s entire mouth. The incident caused Fan Jian to cry out in pain.

His hands uncontrollably caressed his mouth, but the boiling water continued to flow down toward his chest. Fan Jian tumbled down the stairs, screaming miserably, as tears and snot almost streamed down. His limbs stiffened, writhing on the ground, and within seconds, his mouth began to show blood streaks, followed by white blisters forming on his skin. Fresh blood flowed from his mouth, which swelled into two large sausages, the skin on top white and peeling.

The expression was as painful as it could be.

Meanwhile, Zhang Xixi was also terrified. She watched Fan Jian rolling on the ground, her kind heart feeling some pity, but when she turned to look at Lin Zifeng, she saw him with an innocuous face, blinking his large eyes and quietly observing the prank, as if he himself had no idea what was happening, as though he too was startled.

Fan Jian’s screams suddenly drew the crowd of employees, who watched him roll on the ground in silence. Although the scene was somewhat horrifying and bloody, some couldn’t help but feel secretly thrilled. After all, Fan Jian was too hateful on regular days, and now his comeuppance had arrived. The tables had turned, and not one person felt sympathy for him; some even cursed silently, ”It serves him right.”

When everyone turned their gaze toward Lin Zifeng, the little security officer looked as if he was completely unaware of anything. He stammered his words, making him seem more like an honest man to those who saw him.

Lin Zifeng pointed at Fan Jian on the ground, his eyes wide with residual shock, and said, ”I, I didn’t know, it wasn’t, wasn’t my fault.”

Seeing his scared-as-pale face, everyone became somewhat silent. Zhang Xixi knew that this matter was not related to Lin Zifeng; it was Fan Jian who had initially tried to harm someone else. However, she did not know that Lin Zifeng had deliberately played a dirty trick—so subtle that it appeared blameless yet simultaneously absolved him of all responsibility.

Even the employees who had passed by could testify for Lin Zifeng, that none of this had anything to do with him. Even if they checked the cafeteria’s surveillance cameras, they wouldn’t find evidence of Lin Zifeng maliciously injuring someone.

Because Lin Zifeng had been eating his meal heartily all the while and had not had the slightest verbal conflict with Fan Jian. In the end, it was Fan Jian who intentionally tried to harm others, only to have it inadvertently blocked back at him.

This time, it was truly a case of reaping what he sowed; chances were that his seductively charming mouth could only be covered with a mask when going to work in the future.

”Ew! That’s disgusting! Look at how his mouth skin is peeling from the scald, revealing the fresh red flesh underneath. The more I look at it, the more revolting it is.”

”Yeah, getting scalded by boiling water on the mouth; even if it heals, the skin there will be useless. Looks like he’ll have to go to South Korea for plastic surgery.”

...

By now, the restaurant staff had gathered in increasing numbers, encircling Fan Jian so tightly that there was no escape. Hundreds of employees were discussing fervently.

No matter how much Fan Jian screamed, not a single person present made a move to call an ambulance for him, indicating just how bad Fan Jian’s character really was.

In the end, it was the inherently kind Zhang Xixi, Supervisor Zhang, who called the ambulance.

”Ah...!”

But with at least five minutes until the ambulance arrived, Fan Jian’s cries of agony filled the entire restaurant. The shrill screams, the chilling howls, made everyone’s scalp tingle. Fan Jian glared at Lin Zifeng with eyes bloodshot, fixating intensely on Lin Zifeng, for he was the person responsible for his current miserable state!

If he could, Fan Jian would personally tear this bastard to pieces. If not for Lin Zifeng’s existence, would he become the laughingstock among his colleagues and end up in this tragic state today?

Despite Fan Jian’s usual effeminate behavior, in the midst of this bone-chilling pain, he did not forget his desire for revenge.

Lin Zifeng, on the other hand, fixed a wicked gaze on Fan Jian’s eyes. His eyes were not large, but they were filled with malevolence, as if being watched by a ferocious beast. Had no one been around, Fan Jian might have suspected Lin Zifeng would charge at him and tear him to pieces,

without leaving even the remains of his bones. Especially Lin Zifeng’s deep and profound pupils seemed to cast Fan Jian into a thousand-year-old ice cellar in Hell, the chill around him so intense it made his bones cold,

Fan Jian had never found this feeling in anyone before, but now it had surfaced in a mere security guard. He didn’t know if it was an illusion, but his bloodshot eyes seemed to grow increasingly uncertain under Lin Zifeng’s gaze.

As for Lin Zifeng, none of this was his fault; it was all Fan Jian’s own doing.

However, Lin Zifeng couldn’t leave now. Though the incident had been started by Fan Jian, he still had to at least maintain outward appearances.

Lin Zifeng, looking visibly terrified and with his heart still pounding in fear, hurried over to Fan Jian’s side.

He scooped up Fan Jian’s head in his arms.

With an innocent expression, he said, ”Director Fan, what’s happened to you? I really didn’t mean it just now. It was your cup that slipped from your hand. I moved purely on instinct. I truly didn’t know the water in the cup was boiling hot, and you were standing right behind me. If you’d stepped away a bit, I believe you would have been fine. Everyone, call an ambulance, quick, an ambulance. If it’s any later, our Director Fan... might go at any moment...”

One had to admit, if Lin Zifeng went into acting, he wouldn’t just win an Oscar, at the very least he’d receive a Golden Globe. His pretense was so convincing it hoodwinked even the sharpest of bystanders.

The person in question, Fan Jian, nearly died of rage in the arms of this beast. It was clearly intentional, yet he claimed it was accidental and even cried out that Fan Jian was about to kick the bucket. If he hadn’t already passed away from anger, Fan Jian’s eyes would have rolled back in his head.

What enraged Fan Jian the most was that, while Lin Zifeng was loudly screaming for an ambulance, he was vigorously shaking Fan Jian’s head. It was just his mouth that had been scalded, yet he was shaken into rolling his eyes. At this rate, even if Fan Jian didn’t die from his injuries, he’d be played to death.

The news of Fan Jian’s scalding injury spread quickly, and even Nangong Bing, dining on the third floor, was startled. An employee had been scalded; as the boss, she had to come and see for herself.

Despite Nangong Bing’s usually strict management, she was extremely protective of her staff. She cared deeply for all employees, regardless of their position or prestige.

Upon hearing that a lowly security guard had scalded Fan Jian, Nangong Bing’s fair and slender fingers clenched tightly in anger. It must be him again. How come he appears everywhere?

Nangong Bing left her meal and hurried down with her entourage. When the crowd parted, they saw Lin Zifeng holding the eye-rolling Fan Jian, calling out incessantly with the most innocent of expressions. Nangong Bing’s pretty face showed a hint of feigned anger.

Nangong Bing knew better than anyone what kind of person Lin Zifeng was. She presumed that this incident was another of his doings.

It seemed that this guy was not only shameless but also a troublemaker.

In just a few short days at the company, he maneuvered as if born to thrive here.

And now, Fan Jian, the director of the advertising department, had fallen into his trap.

What infuriated Nangong Bing the most was that Lin Zifeng showed not the slightest sign of remorse; instead, he maintained an innocent facade.

”What’s going on? What happened to Fan Jian?”

With Nangong Bing’s arrival, the crowd parted seamlessly, creating a pathway for her, and the bystanders all looked up in awe. Her entrance was not flashy, but her demeanor overwhelmed any woman who normally tried to outshine others for attention.

Even Zhang Xixi, a great beauty with both charm and looks, seemed to lose some of her presence in front of Nangong Bing.

Nangong Bing’s cold aura swept across the room. Her black and white business suit perfectly highlighted her graceful figure. Her shining black hair slightly put up, pearly white teeth, red lips, sculpted forehead, and aristocratic nose—the air of superiority shamed those women who took pride in both their brains and beauty.

Nangong Bing’s arrival was like a Heavenly Immortal descending in their midst.

She garnered the attention of everyone in the room, even the chefs in the kitchen, who abandoned their utensils and ran out excitedly, as if witnessing a huge celebration, to catch a glimpse of Nangong Bing’s elegance.

Honestly, Nangong Bing had never shown herself so publicly in Zhonghai City during her year at Tianyu. This was her first time making such a high-profile appearance, and the entire cafeteria filled with employees eager not to miss a single move or a word from her.

Though it might sound exaggerated, Nangong Bing’s charm was indeed a legend in Zhonghai City! Every year, countless applicants lined up to interview at Tianyu. Sometimes, one might register at the beginning of the month and still not be guaranteed an interview till the end of the following month. Such was the scale of Tianyu’s assets!

This was the legacy built through the continuous efforts of two generations!
