After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 2000: Chapter 2004: If Zirui Were Here

”Is everything going smoothly?” Leng Lin’s voice was very friendly.

”Ah, quite smoothly. Mo Mo met a kind old lady on the plane, and finding him wasn’t too much trouble.”

”That’s good...” Leng Lin hesitated slightly on the phone, ”Xiao Xia, thank you for your hard work.”

”You’re too kind, these things are all what I should do.” Xu Xia hurriedly replied.

”We’re all family, so I won’t be polite with you. It’s probably still late over there, get some rest early. I know you’re very worried about Qian and the others, but you also need to take care of yourself.” On the other side of the phone, the old man’s tone was gentle and easy-going, just like any ordinary father.

”Okay.” Xu Xia felt warm inside, yet somewhat uneasy, ”Don’t worry too much. Zimo and Qian will definitely all be safe.”

”Don’t worry about me, just take care of yourself.” Leng Lin’s tone was very calm, ”I will also take care of myself.”

Having experienced countless events, the old man, despite having a whirlwind of emotions within, could still remain utterly composed.

Because he knew, at this time, the person who must not panic is him!

After hanging up the phone, she returned to the room, sat by the bed, and looked at Luo Jun, who was sleeping soundly. Xu Xia raised her hand to dim the lamp on the table, her gaze fixed on the rainbow-reflecting ring and bracelet on her finger, her mood considerably calmer.

Now that Leng Zirui is not here, she must remain composed.

If Zirui were here, what would he do?!

Call Leng Zimo?!

No, that’s not right; who knows what’s happening on his side.

Movies often have that scene where the protagonist answers a call at an inconvenient time, leading to a major turn of events; this call mustn’t be made.

So, who to call?

Xu Xia pondered for a moment, then thought of someone—Ah Sang!

Previously, when Leng Zimo left, both Ah Jiu and Ah Sang accompanied him. Xu Xia didn’t have Ah Jiu’s number, but she knew Ah Sang’s number because when they were in Hong Kong, it was with the help of Ah Sang and others that Leng Zirui successfully rescued her.

She picked up her phone, quickly found Ah Sang’s number, and once again walked into the bathroom, shutting the door before dialing.

The call was answered after just two rings, ”Hello, is this Miss Xu?”

Xu Xia heard his voice and was delighted, ”Yes, I’m Xu Xia. I know... is what’s reported in the newspapers true? Has something really happened to Leng Zimo?!”

At that moment, Ah Sang had just escaped from Luo Ke’s island with two companions and returned to the yacht. They had just reached coastal waters, entering an area with phone reception, making Xu Xia rather fortunate; had she called earlier, it might not have connected.

On the phone, Xu Xia’s voice was intermittent, and Ah Sang could only say loudly, ”The signal here isn’t very good; I’ll call you later.”

”Okay!” Xu Xia listened to the static on the line, agreed, and hung up.

And then, the long wait began.

More than half an hour later, the call from Ah Sang came through again, but the person calling back was not Ah Sang, it was Ah Jiu.

Hearing Xu Xia’s question, Ah Jiu immediately denied the news.

”The news is false; the gentleman is doing well now... but this matter should be known only to you. Be sure not to disclose it, as it is very important and might affect the safety of the gentleman and the lady.”
