After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 144: Chapter 144 I Will Not Admit Defeat

Jiao Yang slowed the car down, and the vehicle smoothly approached the next intersection.

Up ahead, the blaring of car horns pierced the air.

Luo Xiaoqian abruptly lifted her face, only to see a black car suddenly cutting across from the diagonal front. Through the glass, she clearly made out the frosty visage of Leng Zimo behind the other car’s windshield.

His car was charging at an angle.

The sound of brakes screeching filled the air.

Luo Xiaoqian’s body uncontrollably lurched forward, but fortunately, the seatbelt protected her from injury. Shaken, she straightened up just in time to see a black Hummer sprawled across the middle of the road ahead, completely blocking their way. The car door was open, and there was no one in the driver’s seat.

”Open the door!”

Suddenly, his voice rang out beside her, his anger discernible even through the glass.

She turned her head to see Leng Zimo’s tall figure standing just outside her door.

Behind them, a chorus of car horns sounded.

Jiao Yang’s face still bore a smile as he held the steering wheel. He turned his head toward Luo Xiaoqian and asked, ”Do you need my help?!”

Even though Leng Zimo’s car blocked them, there was not a trace of panic on his face. His tone remained lazily confident, suggesting that if she wished, he could whisk her away that instant.

”No need, thank you for tonight!”

Unbuckling the seatbelt, Luo Xiaoqian pulled open the car door.

She understood Leng Zimo; this man wouldn’t give up tonight. However, since they were just acquaintances, she didn’t want to cause more trouble for Jiao Yang.

Ignoring the surrounding honks and curses, Leng Zimo grabbed her arm and stuffed her back into the car, securing her with the seatbelt in a tight knot before he finally closed the door and settled back into the driver’s seat to start the car.

Jiao Yang squinted his eyes, watching the tail lights of the black Hummer fade into the oncoming traffic before leisurely starting his car.

”Leng Zimo?” He smiled slightly, ”I never thought our first encounter would be like this. It’s a decent beginning!”

...

...

Inside the black Hummer.

Luo Xiaoqian looked down, staring at the seatbelt knotted tightly around her, her mouth curling into a self-mocking smile.

Turning her head to look at Leng Zimo, who was driving, her tone was stubborn.

”Leng Zimo, I won’t admit defeat!”

Leng Zimo slowly turned his face, his deep, dark eyes fixating on her.

”What did you say?”

”Our bet!” Luo Xiaoqian met his gaze without fear, ”I won’t admit defeat!”

She was referring to the bet between them, where he had said that if she managed to rise above a second-tier singer within three months, she would win.

After a moment of eye contact, Leng Zimo abruptly turned the steering wheel and pulled the car over to the side of the road.

”You think I’m deliberately making things difficult for you?”

”Isn’t that the case?”

She echoed his tone in her question.

Initially, she thought he had simply misunderstood her. Now, bound in her seat, she suddenly realized.

This man never wanted her to win in the first place!

Because if she lost, he could forever imprison her.

The expression on Leng Zimo’s face instantly dropped to freezing, his hand clenching the steering wheel tightening fiercely.

If he really wanted her to lose, he wouldn’t have to go through all this trouble; with just a word from him, he could easily come up with an excuse to disqualify her from the competition.

His fingers, which had been scraped while grabbing the car earlier, now throbbed with pain when he clenched them. Feeling the pain between his fingers, his gaze involuntarily shifted to her hands.
