I Am Your Natural Enemy

Fan Zeyun, standing aside, saw that Wen Yan didn’t seem to have any ill will towards Brother Dao, and only then did he finally relax.

He now increasingly feels that he’s getting old and can’t keep up with the times anymore.

It was always said that chickens don’t live past six, especially around here, where it’s basically impossible for any chicken to live that long.

To cover up Brother Dao’s existence, he even kept ordinary chickens, otherwise, it would’ve aroused suspicion long ago.

He experienced those first twenty years of the Spiritual Qi Resurgence and witnessed quite a few conflicts between different races and humans. He thought that today’s conflicts might be even more intense than before.

But the result was completely different from what he imagined.

Now, the thing he was most worried about might not be a concern any longer.

At this thought, Fan Zeyun finally let it go.

”You want to find that lantern, right?”

”Yes, there are lost souls being suppressed by that lantern, unable to be summoned.”

”Can I know roughly what kind of soul summoning it is?”

”Do you know the Old Celestial Master from the Celestial Master Mansion?”

”I know.”

”It should be the strongest kind of soul summoning besides the Old Celestial Master himself taking action.”

Wen Yan’s soul summoning was directly triggered by the Explosive Great Sun. He feared failure, so he basically never used normal soul summoning.

Just in terms of soul summoning, the effect should be almost like a professional conducting a major ritual, yet even then it couldn’t be summoned; that lantern is clearly quite strong.

Fan Zeyun frowned slightly, a little troubled.

”That lantern is probably completely different from what it was back then. The lantern I made couldn’t possibly have such a strong effect.”

”Can it be found?”

”If the lantern’s true power is triggered again, I should be able to sense it.”

”Can you help find it?”

Fan Zeyun glanced at the big rooster.

”Can you help take care of Brother Dao for me?”

”Does Brother Dao want to register with the Scorching Sun Department? Once registered, there will be a record, which is equivalent to having an identity. You should be aware that all wild animals we see now, even sparrows, belong to the category of protected species, and catching a frog would land you in jail for a few days. This is already the most demon-friendly era in history.”

”Yes.” Fan Zeyun immediately agreed.

”What are you agreeing to, you wuss?” Brother Dao was displeased and shouted.

”You eat my food, so I can make this decision!” Fan Zeyun retorted.

Brother Dao immediately fell silent, muttering for a while but unable to say anything in rebuttal, after all, it was something he had said himself.

Wen Yan took out his phone, downloaded a form, and filled in the information directly.

”Brother Dao, don’t move, let me take a photo for you.”

Hearing this, Brother Dao got excited, flapped his wings, and flew into the room. Before long, he flew out with a bright red silk cloth, landing on the kang, and then turned his head to look at Fan Zeyun.

”What are you standing there for? Help me, don’t think I don’t know, we need a red background!”

”...”

Wen Yan and Fan Zeyun were both speechless for a moment.

Fan Zeyun got on the kang, unfolded the red silk cloth, and stood behind Brother Dao, who stood upright with his head up, looking very serious.

Wen Yan had no choice but to take a picture of Brother Dao.

”Why are you in such a hurry, take a few more so I can pick one.”

A few minutes later, Brother Dao selected a particularly majestic-looking photo and nodded in satisfaction.

Wen Yan first filled in some basic information for Brother Dao, so he was no longer considered a wild demon. If he didn’t plan to transform, shape-shift, or integrate into human society, then this would suffice.

For those who want to open shops, work, and enjoy everything humans can, after shaping, there would be another review before an identity card could be issued.

After registering Brother Dao, the atmosphere was far less tense than at the start.

Wen Yan explained to Fan Zeyun that the current Scorching Sun Department isn’t the same as it was twenty or even thirty years ago, when it was weak in power, had low authority, and was somewhat feared.

Back then, there was still debate about the concept of Spiritual Qi Resurgence.

During the initial stages, many things couldn’t be clearly defined.

Usually, definitions were only settled after a major event lasted years or decades, or when things finally stabilized.

”Let me know when it’s convenient for you to help confirm the location.”

”I can do it now.”

”Now?”

”Souls walk the underworld at night, but the flesh can only do so during the day.”

”Alright, I appreciate it.”

Fan Zeyun took out the small incense burner again, completed the arrangements, washed his feet with running tap water, then took out the white lantern and opened the cellar hatch.

Wen Yan watched as Fan Zeyun seemed to be setting up a ritual, yet not quite like it. He worked for a while before lighting a small section of a white candle wrapped in red cloth with incense.

”The candle flame can’t be lit with an open flame, it can only be lit like this.

This candle I acquired by chance, made mainly with whale oil.

For a long time, it was the primary material for Everbright Lamps, with the differences just being the other added materials.

Later, follow me and don’t stray further than ten feet from me, or you won’t be illuminated anymore.

Once down, under no circumstances should you look back, no matter who calls.”

Saying this, Fan Zeyun paused slightly and smiled bitterly.

”Well, you should be more familiar with this than I am.

Once we’re down, focus on summoning the souls, don’t mind me.
