I Am Your Natural Enemy

Then they came across a ghost, who first poisoned themselves, died for two minutes, was rescued, then got into a traffic accident on the way, died again for more than a minute, and finally just after being saved, was taken away completely due to a fire.

This was simply a prime candidate for a gentle breeze. They originally had good talks, offering good food and drink for some time, fooling around day after day, seemingly about to succeed. That ghost went south and headed to Guanzhong County.

Because news from Guanzhong County was that many ghosts had obtained a legal identity and even proper jobs.

This ghost wanted to go the right path, hoping to someday achieve a righteous outcome; the identity allowing one to open bank accounts was simply a ladder to reduce the rigid difficulty.

Obviously, the ghost, whose ambition had been stirred, didn’t want to be a floating immortal; they had higher aspirations.

And coincidentally, the news from Guanzhong County had Wen Yan’s name entangled within it.

Even though Wen Yan didn’t know these people at all, only found out about them today, the people had known Wen Yan for a long time, and didn’t grind their teeth audibly like mice, showing remarkable restraint.

Wen Yan listened to the black box’s explanation and sighed.

Indeed, most times when doing something that benefits some, it might just harm others’ interests.

He inexplicably offended people, not knowing when or why he had offended them.

In future endeavors, it’s necessary to fully understand the situation; otherwise, it’s one thing to offend someone, but making enemies he’d be unaware of.

Someday, while executing some task with someone, he might get stabbed in the back unknowingly.

Wen Yan had the black box look up that ghost who could have been a gentle breeze candidate.

The records confirmed the ghost was quite a character, avoiding the Capital City and detouring from the Northeast through grasslands, a thousand-kilometer detour, then heading south from the grassland’s west to reach Guanzhong County.

Along the way, adhering strictly to rules, every place he arrived, he proactively registered at the Scorching Sun Department, even once called for a fire alarm on the way because he detected an internal fire before it reached external flames.

At this point, Wen Yan realized many out-of-town ghosts were trying every way to get to Guanzhong County this month.

The Scorching Sun Department couldn’t fully stop them; after all, those moving now merely wished to come ashore, low risk, easy to manage, and reconcilable.

Among these ghosts, some indeed possessed special talents. Guanzhong County’s Scorching Sun Department actually hired a few interns yet again.

For example, several ordinary ghosts were hired in the subway to manage and mediate the ghosts living along the subway lines. These aunties were exceptionally skilled, managing far better than the living Scorching Sun Department staff.

Previously, encountering rogue ghosts used to be a hassle with calls even making the bureaucracy shake up, promptly attracting some troublesome ghosts to join the fun.

But now, the auntie ghosts with extensive community work experience could restore order to living standards in a district within a month. If a rogue dared to shout as before, they’d surely get slapped in the face, and other ghosts wouldn’t find it strange.

But such actions, living grassroots members of the Scorching Sun Department truly couldn’t commit; it would easily intensify conflicts.

Ordinary ghosts starting to get recruited to participate in management work signifies a major shift.

Were it not for the black box helping investigate downwards, reporting relevant things, Wen Yan really wouldn’t know about such matters.

No wonder Lord Zhu remarked that Wen Yan’s name could be more influential among ghosts.

It was afternoon’s meeting time, Wen Yan turned off his phone and continued to attend the meeting.

The afternoon’s atmosphere was much more harmonious than the morning, no one causing trouble, no talks of ancestral rules, nor anyone bringing up the Three Mountains and Five Ridges.

Wen Yan idled through the afternoon, and when the meeting ended, upon exiting, someone stopped him.

”Brother Wen, please wait.”

”Forgive my dull eyes, you are...?”

”I am from the Li Family of Hedong State, practicing family martial arts, and I am the current patriarch.”

”Oh, Elder Li, please excuse me, this is my first meeting; I don’t know anyone.”

”Brother Wen, don’t call me elder, that’s not in vogue now, just call me Old Li.”

”Alright, Elder Brother Li.”

”Can we find a place to sit and talk? I have a favor to ask of you.”

”Elder Brother Li, just tell me directly, no need for such courtesy, as long as I can help.”

”It’s like this, within our clan, there was a boxing manual and a sword manual, but the sword manual was lost centuries ago.”

”Everyone who knew it either met with accidents outside or died in battle.”

”In the end, the sword manual was basically completely lost, and those left were utterly unusable, very prone to issues.”

”I heard Brother Wen often traverses the Big Intersection, managed to tread the Nether Path.”

”I’d like to ask Brother Wen to inquire, see if anyone’s seen several of my Li Clan ancestors.”

”Ask if there are other places possibly remaining with the sword manual or see if it can be passed down again.”

Wen Yan, upon hearing this, immediately sighed and said.

”Elder Brother Li, this might be a tough ask; truth be told, I have walked the Nether Path more than once.”

”But while on the Nether Path, the ghosts I encounter all lack self-awareness.”

”If they exit the Nether Path, it’s usually instant dissolution as their ending.”
