I Am Your Natural Enemy

After all, he had tried several times consecutively for the experiment.

”Hung up, hung up.”

Feng Yao quickly hung up the phone.

Wen Yan could tell the result just from the sound, and coincidentally, he also needed an experimental target now.

He had spent another day waiting in Lord Zhu’s place, and by evening, nothing unusual had happened, so Wen Yan prepared to leave.

Before leaving, Lord Zhu pulled Wen Yan to the room where Old Zhu’s memorial tablet was placed.

”Come, light an incense stick.”

Wen Yan used Yang Energy to light three incense sticks, paid his respects solemnly, and inserted them into the incense burner.

Lord Zhu nodded, also paid his respects, and looked at Old Zhu’s tablet, thinking silently to himself.

Since we’ve paid respects and you, the elder, have not disagreed, this matter is settled.

After Wen Yan finished paying respects, Old Zhu handed Wen Yan a parcel wrapped in red cloth.

”Take it back with you. I asked specifically for you. If you have time on the fifteenth of each month, pay your respects; remember to do it on the second or third day of the first lunar month each year as well.”

”Okay.” Wen Yan could tell what it was just by the shape of the parcel and didn’t ask further, knowing it would yield no result.

Seeing that Wen Yan didn’t ask anything, Lord Zhu felt a sense of relief.

”Carry it back, worship it properly, it’s good for you.”

”Is it appropriate to say it so directly?”

”There’s nothing inappropriate about it. Saying it in front of the elder would actually make him happy.”

Wen Yan glanced at Old Zhu’s tablet and thought to himself, Lord Zhu is definitely one of Old Zhu’s people, and from the tone, probably not from the later Zhu family.

The influence Old Zhu held over those descendants was no small thing.

Wen Yan carried the heavy parcel on his back and pondered for a moment before leaving.

”Is it appropriate for me to walk the Nether Path?”

”Why are you always thinking about what’s appropriate or not?” Lord Zhu was getting tired of Wen Yan’s questions.

Wen Yan laughed in agreement, indeed, why worry about what’s appropriate or not. If there’s a problem, it’s someone else’s issue.

He left via the Nether Path, traveling smoothly, and arrived in Yu State.

He met Feng Yao, whose complexion wasn’t great, looking a bit yellow and green.

Wen Yan asked and found out that Feng Yao was practically a madman, having personally done several diagram experiments.

”A true talent! Are you trying so hard to progress?”

”Please don’t mention it. I just hope that Minister Cai is still around. I’m about to drop dead, and my home’s bed is almost growing mold since I haven’t returned.”

”Alright, wait here. I’ll get you something to eat.”

Wen Yan went to the kitchen, borrowed a small milk pot, cooked a small pot of sweet soup for Feng Yao, and brought it to him.

”Eat.”

”What’s this?”

”Just eat it, no nonsense, hurry up. I personally cooked it, don’t regret not eating it!”

Feng Yao hesitated but eventually tried it. It was ordinary, and from one bite, he could tell it wasn’t soy sauce but brown sugar.

He was still confused about what Wen Yan was up to when he started to feel a slight warmth spreading in his stomach.

Feng Yao paused slightly and continued eating. This time, he confirmed that eating wouldn’t cause that nausea and discomfort; instead, the more he ate, the more the symptoms were suppressed.

He stopped talking, blew to cool it down, and ate. After eating half the pot, he looked up.

”Where did you learn this? It’s very effective?”

”Everyone in the north knows it. If a child isn’t feeling well or has an upset stomach, they eat this.”

”I mean...”

”I said everyone in the north knows it. It’s been circulating among the people for a very long time.”

Feng Yao looked up at Wen Yan, unable to help but take a sharp breath.

”This...”

Was there something similar before?

And the remedy is the most common, easily accessible thing?

”There’s no relevant record in the Scorching Sun Department, right?”

”Do you think it’s possible that the Scorching Sun Department was only established a few decades ago, and many materials rely on previous records?”

”How could something like this have no record?”

”Is a record necessarily reliable? Can it definitely be passed down?”

”...” Feng Yao was speechless.

Many records in the Scorching Sun Department today are actually supplemented by the Three Mountains and Five Ridges, and a small part is indeed supplemented by the classics left by those who went overseas two hundred to one hundred years ago.

After much thought, Feng Yao solemnly asked a question.

”Do you think I can document this and put it in the Scorching Sun Department?”

”I’d advise you not to document it. At most, if you feel unwell, just drink some sweet soup.”

”Got it.”

Feng Yao was now completely certain that there must have been similar things before, which would also cause similar reactions.

But just like that diagram, the contents have completely disappeared, and any related records would be erased.

And the thing that eases side effects can’t be directly documented either.

So how should this thing be passed down?

The simplest way is to make it something everyone can easily access, a very ordinary household item.

Preferably something edible.

It’s best to add another point according to the characteristics of the People of Divine Land: if a child at home isn’t feeling well, they eat this.

That can ensure that when the child grows up, they will still remember and continue to pass it down.

Thinking of this, Feng Yao silently thought to himself, whoever initially decided on this must have been a genius.

Thinking carefully, it is only in recent decades that living conditions have improved.

In ancient times, no, even thirty years ago, this should still have been the most chosen item by parents, especially in the north. Decades ago, anything with added sugar was a good thing for children.
