I Am Your Natural Enemy

”Hey, old thing, are you still messing around? Who’s seriously working in the field at night.

Hey, don’t hang up; I have something to discuss with you.”

Before Lord Zhu finished speaking, the other side had already hung up.

Lord Zhu, feeling embarrassed, immediately called back.

”Old thing, it’s not for me, I’m helping someone. Remember Wen Yan?

Yes, it’s him. I’m asking for him. Why are you still so grumpy?”

A few minutes later, Lord Zhu hung up the phone, looked at Wen Yan with doubt in his eyes, and sighed.

”Don’t look at me like that. In the ghost circles, sometimes your reputation might be more useful than mine. Some old ghosts are unwilling to pay attention to me, but although they are grumpy, they still have some old habits.

It’s just asking for some information. They don’t give me face, but if I say it’s you asking, they’ll help out.”

Don’t be puzzled. Now, Guanzhong County has the most ghosts, but the atmosphere is also the most harmonious. This is largely because you connected many ghosts, allowing them to have an identity and a proper job.

The biggest fear for people is losing hope, and it’s the same for ghosts. They’re afraid of losing hope, not seeing any future.”

Even though only a small minority have received it proportionally, the number of these ghosts is not small either.

The other ghosts can see it, so naturally, they’ll think, ’If my neighbor can make it, maybe I can too.’

With proper hope, they won’t cause trouble or go to extremes.”

Ghosts going to extremes are far more terrifying than humans.

To some old ghosts, this is genuinely about not seeking personal gain but doing real deeds for the people.

In their eyes, this is far better than me, a profligate relying on the blessings of ancestors.”

Lord Zhu, with a touch of self-mockery, acknowledged that many old ghosts don’t like him, especially those who died in ancient times. Even if they don’t firmly believe in it, they hold some belief in cultivating the self, regulating the family, ruling the state, and bringing peace to the world.

Even those old ghosts who don’t believe in these ideas have at the very least, respect for those who truly believe and act upon them.

Wen Yan listened in amazement. Honestly, he hadn’t thought so far ahead or so deeply.

”Who are these predecessors? If I see them, I should thank them in person.”

”They’re all old ghosts. When the festival comes, I’ll invite them, and there’s no harm in meeting them.

Let’s have some tea first. If you’re free, stay here for a few days.

Once there’s news, you’ll know it first-hand.

If it’s not something from our Divine Land or not related to the ghost circle, it may be hard to say.

If it’s from our Divine Land and related to ghosts, someone will surely know.

There’s no wall in the world without cracks, and among ghosts, every wall has leaks. Someone will definitely know.”

”Alright.”

Wen Yan stayed here with peace of mind.

After all, he had asked others to gather information; he wouldn’t be involved in capturing and interrogating. Aside from fighting, he didn’t need to handle anything else.

...

By the roadside, an old ghost carrying shoes was still moving. When he reached halfway, a fierce ghost with heavy Yin Qi blocked his path.

The old man’s face looked bloated, drooping his eyelids, and he kept heading east, ignoring the fierce ghost completely.

The fierce ghost, after much deliberation, blocked the way.

”Don’t blame me; blame yourself for offending someone you shouldn’t have. Someone paid a hefty price for you to be utterly annihilated.”

The fierce ghost’s figure flickered, and a claw directly pierced into the old ghost’s chest, twisting like a drill. The slightly hunched old man slowly raised his head, his murky eyes looking at the fierce ghost.

”Are you someone who can make decisions?”

The fierce ghost began to sense something was wrong. When he tried to retreat, he found that the shoes the old ghost was holding had somehow been worn, and the old ghost’s hand reached into his chest.

The soul body was torn apart, and a semi-transparent heart, emitting blood and black aura, was dug out.

The old man glanced at it, released the heart, and turned to leave.

The fierce ghost stood in place, filled with disbelief, looking at his heart being dug out.

He’s a fierce ghost, where did the heart come from?

Gradually, his expression solidified, and dark reddish-purple corpse spots began appearing on the surface of his soul body.

He opened his mouth, wanting to say something more, but couldn’t utter a word.

He collapsed to the ground, not immediately dissipating, lying like a real corpse, with his chest split open, holding a heart in his hands.

The barefooted old ghost, carrying his shoes, continued forward.

But the Scorching Sun Department had already received the news and had sent for assistance.

Ten miles away, a Taoist wearing a Nine Yang Scarf had a solemn expression.

A ghost that can appear in broad daylight, ignore the defense of the Scorching Sun Department’s standard uniform, and use such strange methods to kill, he had neither seen nor heard of before.

Everything else aside, the Scorching Sun Department’s standard uniform has been tested for decades. Although its maximum strength isn’t high, its universality is unparalleled. Aside from being costly, it has no drawbacks.

But even if it’s expensive, the Scorching Sun Department makes sure every field agent has at least one piece. This uniform can handle most situations.

For situations it can’t handle, ordinary grassroots field agents are not sent to the front lines.

Hearing the news that the target was approaching, the Taoist began setting up the Dharma Altar, consecrating the Magic Sword, and arranging various items.

As dusk approached, by the empty road, the old ghost carrying shoes, with a slightly hunched back, moved forward step by step.
