I Am Your Natural Enemy

A string of talismans rose beside the path, and a gigantic talisman was outlined on the ground. Behind the Dharma Altar, the Taoist recited curse scriptures while flames ignited on his magic sword, accompanying his spell casting.

Suddenly, the ground erupted with flames, distorting everything around. It appeared as if circles of fire were continuously spiraling toward the center.

The flames roared, engulfing the Old Ghost within. A few seconds later, just as the Taoist thought his trap had succeeded, the Old Ghost emerged from the flames wearing shoes.

He raised his head, his eyes murky, looking at the Taoist.

”Are you the one in charge?”

The Taoist’s expression turned solemn, remaining silent, swiftly making other preparations.

But in the next moment, his face changed drastically. The Old Ghost’s hand had already sunk into his chest, and he felt his soul being pulled by a terrifying power, almost unable to resist.

The gleam in his eyes scattered slightly, his soul was drawn out of his body, and the Old Ghost tore out a heart from his soul. The heart was semi-transparent, burning with a layer of flames.

The Old Ghost glanced at it, then placed the heart back into his soul.

The Old Ghost turned and left, proceeding forward while the Taoist lay on the ground, uncertain of life or death.

Several moments later, a few people rushed over from afar, but they saw that the Taoist wasn’t like the previous ones, their bodies had gone cold, showing no signs of postmortem spots, and he was even still breathing.

”Quickly, take him to the department hospital.”

On the road, the Taoist came to, his complexion pale as paper, and he grabbed the nearby Field Agent.

”Quickly report, this Ghost is abnormal, ordinary methods are useless.

This humble Taoist was fortunate enough to be imparted the talisman from Jade Pivot Fire Mansion.

The talisman fire is completely ineffective against the Ghost, quickly report...”

With just these few words, the Taoist’s gaze began to scatter again, then he fainted once more.

...

Wen Yan was still waiting in Lord Zhu’s villa when his phone suddenly started vibrating.

He took it out and frowned slightly, automatic report from Scorching Sun Department.

This indicated a troublesome case not far from him, common Field Agents couldn’t solve it, and the background color of this sign was red, indicating people had already died.

Opening it up, it wasn’t from Guanzhong County, but the neighboring commandery.

A peculiar yet overwhelmingly powerful Ghost had appeared in the neighboring commandery.

The currently confirmed information.

This Ghost was likely an obliging Temple Keeper of a local temple in the western region when alive. The temple, along with the Temple God there, had been cleared out by the Western Military Region, flattening all temples until they brought down the mountain of the last temple several meters.

And this Temple Keeper, when found, had already died under extremely strange circumstances, drowned while lying in a creek only deep enough to submerge his ankles.

Upon being discovered again, he had turned into a Ghost, appearing beside the highway and walking along it all day without issue.

Ignoring Scorching Sun Department uniforms, ignoring talisman fire, whether the victims or the Ghost, all had stiff bodies covered in postmortem spots.

Wen Yan looked at the now confirmed information, frowning slightly.

No wonder he was in Guanzhong County, and such a report could reach his phone.

Now there were already two dead, and an inexplicable Ghost had appeared. Among those who attempted to block him, only one survived, a Daoist Master.

And this Daoist Master was also injured, his soul was forcibly pulled from his body and still hadn’t fully integrated with his flesh, requiring three months to half a year of bed rest without performing ceremonies.

The current speculation, the greatest possibility, is that this Ghost is heading east potentially for revenge.

However, after the survivor appeared, another speculation arose; the Ghost might not merely be seeking revenge.

Otherwise, when the Taoist priest confronted him, according to the Taoist priest himself, there was no chance of survival.

Wen Yan reviewed the records of the two victims, both frontline Field Agents of Scorching Sun Department.

The second victim didn’t appear particularly significant, but the first victim was a Field Agent who was not on a mission and hadn’t reported any tasks, nor had he activated recording devices, including the car and personal recorders.

No one knows why he was there.

These records follow Scorching Sun Department regulations, devoid of any subjective judgment, only documenting objective circumstances.

Everything documented without solid speculation must be specially marked as speculative.

These rules are strict, arising from past mistakes, lessons written in blood.

Objective records must contain no subjective elements and cannot have omissions or errors.

Wen Yan read the records three times.

He also understood why the matters of the neighboring commandery would automatically notify him here.

Generally, Scorching Sun Department’s automatic notifications during emergencies inform the highest authority within a certain range.

Another instance is when something unsolvable occurs within a range, it’s automatically pushed to specialized members.

Like this time, a clear record exists showing the Ghost could pull people’s souls out of their bodies. Once out, people lose the ability to resist, left like fish on a chopping board, at mercy.
