I Am Your Natural Enemy

And that should be the final thing the Old Ghost wanted to tell him, the most crucial clue.

Because after the last scene from the Old Ghost dissipated, he too dissipated.

Judging by the rules the Old Ghost followed, once he completed the transmission, those memories would dissipate, and he would believe he had completed his task and be killed by the task itself, completely disappearing, his soul shattered.

Now Wen Yan felt that the previous judgment of the Scorching Sun Department was actually not wrong, both assumptions were not incorrect.

The Old Ghost indeed sought revenge, but it wasn’t against the Scorching Sun Department.

The path he walked was the one he had once traveled, he was just trying to find the Scorching Sun Department, find someone in charge, and relay the most critical information to them.

Now his temple was demolished, and the Temple God was obliterated.

What he wanted was to take those people with him as offerings to the Temple God.

Regardless of his motive, truly encountering someone who is in charge and learning about these things, it was impossible to pretend not to know and ignore it.

Wen Yan’s thoughts churned as he tried multiple times, he could now confirm another matter.

The wash the Old Ghost encountered, the associated critical information was washed away and vanished completely, this was not a permanent effect.

Afterwards, if someone could remember, they would remain unaffected.

But the difficulty was, after experiencing the wash, no one remembered, the records were gone, so how would they remember?

This counts as a kind of imperfection within its perfection.

But thinking about it, if it could have a continuous effect, the power required, the price to pay, would be on a completely different level.

Wen Yan’s mind was chaotic, but in the end, he held back, didn’t make a call, and didn’t say anything.

He felt it was best to play it safe, wait a couple of days, and pretend to have been affected before acting.

He wanted to test, to see if the person doing these things knew he was already aware.

After all, at the time, he felt it was as if someone vomited memories directly into his mind; the restored memories felt like they were extraneously loaded with a sense of detachment, not seen with his own eyes.

If his feeling was realistic, then there was someone who truly ”vomited” the discarded memories back into his mind.

If it was purely a feeling, then the person doing these things didn’t know, they hadn’t cleared the wash thoroughly.

Anyway, waiting a couple of days would suffice, it’s just as well Wen Yan brought equipment when he went out.

Returning to Lord Zhu’s manor, Wen Yan felt somewhat distracted, his face suggesting he felt a bit uncomfortable.

Lord Zhu saw Wen Yan return so quickly, naturally, he understood the matter had been resolved without much difficulty, but noticing Wen Yan’s face seemed a bit off.

”What’s wrong?”

”It’s nothing, just threw up once.”

”Oh dear, that damned sly merchant, dares to deceive even ghosts, no wonder the beef was so cheap!” Lord Zhu slapped his thigh, intent on going to have a word with someone immediately.

”...”

Wen Yan sighed helplessly, waving his hand.

”Lord Zhu, it’s nothing to do with the beef, I just don’t feel very well.”

Lord Zhu scrutinized Wen Yan, his brow slightly furrowed.

Wen Yan was a legitimate martial artist, with flourishing internal energy, robust blood circulation, a balance between inside and outside, vibrant yet not excessive, his physical resistance on all fronts surpassing that of ordinary people.

His immunity is very strong, yet not just overly strong, but his body inside and out has achieved a very strong balance, typical ailments are unlikely to disrupt this balance.

”Come here, let me take a look at you.”

”Lord Zhu, since when did you learn to check pulse?”

”I can’t, but I know other things.”

Lord Zhu grasped Wen Yan’s hand, the Yin Qi on his body began to slowly disperse, gradually covering Wen Yan.

”Don’t resist, I can’t handle your resistance.”

The gentle Yin Qi emanating from Lord Zhu slowly enveloped Wen Yan, the rhythms within the Yin Qi gradually syncing with Wen Yan’s energy fluctuations.

At the moment when they perfectly synchronized, Lord Zhu felt Wen Yan’s current discomfort, that very nauseous feeling after just having thrown up, a bit relieved but still feeling quite unwell.

The hand gripping Wen Yan’s arm instantly retracted.

After a slight pause, Lord Zhu again reached out, grabbing Wen Yan’s arm.

”For the next few days, don’t go anywhere, stay here and recuperate, otherwise, rumors might spread that you got sick eating at my place.

I took great trouble to get in the mood and personally brine some beef.

If it gets out that even a martial artist like you got sick from it, no one will dare eat my cooking again.

I’ll make you some soup in a bit.”

Not allowing Wen Yan to refuse, Lord Zhu stormed out of the room.

He rushed all the way to an inner room, saw Old Zhu’s memorial tablet, and immediately knelt before it.

At this point, Lord Zhu couldn’t hold back anymore, biting his lip, glaring, his whole body trembling slightly.

After calming his violently fluctuating emotions for a while, he knocked his head against the memorial tablet several times.

”For so many years, I’ve been under your protection.

Now, finally, I finally encounter the same situation again.”

Here, in front of Old Zhu’s memorial tablet, Lord Zhu couldn’t repress anymore, nor suppress his emotions.

A few minutes later, he managed to calm down a bit.

Standing up, he took a clean new towel from the side, wiped Old Zhu’s memorial tablet, then offered three incense sticks, bowing three times.

Lord Zhu personally went to the kitchen, took out a clay pot, and cooked some sweet soup.

The so-called sweet soup is simply ordinary flour thinly dissolved in water, slightly thickened, mixed to a state thicker than old yogurt yet not forming clumps, then poured into boiling water, rapidly stirring to disperse.
