I Am Your Natural Enemy

”Ugh...”

Wen Yan stood by the roadside, cleared his throat, and spat something out, his twisted expression finally relaxing.

The feeling was extremely uncomfortable, clearly a strong sense of nausea, yet it was just a feeling, nothing came out, as if it was reverse vomiting.

Actually getting something out made him feel better.

He put away his phone, stood by the roadside rubbing his head, while the Field Agent beside him looked confused and handed him a bottle of water.

”Are you okay?”

”I’m fine.” Wen Yan rinsed his mouth, without explaining.

He glanced at the Field Agents, said nothing, and did not ask them to look at the picture.

The Scorching Sun Department indeed lacks manpower, but that doesn’t mean there are few people; they are spread across various commanderies in the Divine Land, with branches in each commandery and state, the total number is certainly not small.

If there weren’t any problems, or the problems weren’t severe, those above wouldn’t consent to the establishment of a Cleansing Office.

The quick approval must indicate that there had already been discussions or intentions regarding this.

Wen Yan, who lacks long-term Field Agent experience and isn’t particularly familiar with Field Agent protocols, understood that the previous Field Agent who died was likely doing private work, so how could others not understand?

Now organizing the memories emerging in his mind, he recalled that the Temple Keeper also met someone likely a basic Field Agent.

The standard vest the guy wore inside wasn’t ordinary clothing that anyone could wear; every coded Large Bill embedded in it was recorded. It could be reapplied for if damaged during a mission, but the original must be recovered.

Having that item and daring to wear it directly, one could basically confirm that as a Field Agent.

Wen Yan drank some water, stood in place for a while to digest these memories again.

It could basically verify one thing, that the original Ghost Wealth God was indeed native to the Divine Land, and indeed someone was colluding with outsiders.

The Rich back then was in a hurry to open up, extracting benefits like killing the goose that lays the golden egg, meanwhile, some people wanted to use the hands of The Rich to verify some things.

In those brief conversations, Wen Yan pondered over quite a few things.

That guy said someone had succeeded, which should not be referring to the Ghost Wealth God.

If it were the Ghost Wealth God, why conduct any experiments?

Of course, there could be other possibilities, not knowing the inside story, Wen Yan dared not jump to conclusions.

Looking unwell, he said nothing after getting in the car, as though he was feeling physically discomforted.

Returning to the place he came from, he directly said the ghost had been dealt with, and left immediately.

Coming out of the Desolate Tomb, back to Guanzhong County, Wen Yan quickly found a place to record verbatim the dialogues he still remembered.

If it were his own experiences, he might indeed not be able to record them so accurately word for word.

Just like before with Lord Zhu, talking with him, he could only generally recount what was talked about, but truly replicating it word for word was impossible.

And now these memories, gave him the feeling of being additionally loaded, with a sense of detachment, yet he could recall every detail clearly.

After recording, Wen Yan had the Black Box shred the conversations he recorded into pieces and store a copy.

He tried having the Black Box reassemble the previously shredded records, took a look, and felt assured seeing no issues.

The Black Box perfectly executed its function, without attempting to understand, but simply shredded the original recorded material into powder-like pieces, pieces incomprehensible even to the Black Box itself.

The Black Box only remembered each meaningless fragment’s original location, resembling a string of tens of millions of digits, inherently meaningless. Once the fragments were reassembled according to the code, the original information emerged.

Using the Black Box was originally to bypass ”human” existence, to avoid triggering certain things. If no one knows, then there’s no leakage.

He had tried in urgency before, and it still worked.

Regardless of who this is, or the power of what, it’s clear within its rules, a sheet of paper smashed into hundreds of thousands, even millions of pieces, would be classified as destroyed.

This underestimated computational power, underestimated the power of technology. The contents recorded by the Black Box, no matter how shredded, when stored in the storage device would only be a few megabytes, tens of megabytes in size.

If prepared with the program in advance, ready to go, operations could be done with a single key press.

The hardest part was only what Wen Yan said, that the Black Box could instantly understand and complete in the best way.

After recording, Wen Yan checked his phone again, noting that the Scorching Sun Department’s database only had records of Ghosts killing people, followed by Wen Yan dealing with the ghost, but no records traced back to the identity of this Old Ghost.

He asked the Black Box to search, and the Black Box said there never was any.

Wen Yan noted in his mind, the power of this person or thing, without knowing how it operates or what triggers it, but it could erase related records after being triggered.

Whether it was remembered by people, written on paper, or stored in computers.

Wen Yan felt ”cleansing” was fitting, as he saw the rain at the time, under the wash of a torrential downpour, things that should have been visible turned to mist and dispersed.
