”What!?”

”GASP!”

The lackeys of Young Master Liu Yuanding, who were accustomed to throwing their weight around, gasped in shock upon seeing the scene unfold. They couldn’t believe their eyes.

After all, Young Master Liu was the nephew of Liu Tianping, the deputy director of the Municipal Finance Bureau. What kind of status did he have? How could he be arrested so easily?

”You bastard, Wang! Don’t you fucking go too far! Arresting me? Do you have any idea who I am? Who the hell do you think you are?!” Young Master Liu’s face changed completely. He jumped up furiously like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, trembling all over as he blustered, ”You really think you’re so damn impressive!?”

But in the next moment, the cold, black barrel of a gun was suddenly pressed against his head. Police Supervisor Wang Quan, with two bars and two stars on his uniform, said coldly, ”I’ve been sick of you for a long time! Shut up and behave yourself!”

”Ah!” Witnessing this, the lackeys outside the room, men and women alike, let out sharp screams, their faces turning pale as they began to tremble.

”You, you... I haven’t committed any crime! You have no right to do this! On what grounds are you arresting me?” Liu Yuanding stammered, his entire body trembling with the gun barrel pressed against his head.

”On what grounds? Have you forgotten what you’ve done?” Chen Fei’s voice was like ice in his ear. ”Let me remind you, manipulating the civil service examination is no small crime. Don’t worry, I’ll have someone investigate this matter thoroughly. If it’s true, no one involved will get away. Officer Wang, please take them away.”

”No! You can’t do this! It’s not fair...”

Hearing this, Liu Yuanding’s face turned ashen in an instant, and his legs began to tremble uncontrollably.

”Fair? A piece of trash like you dares to speak of fairness?” Chen Fei slapped him across the face. ”Let me ask you, if you want to talk about fairness, then what about my friend who earned the top score in the civil service exam? Was she treated fairly?”

He wasn’t normally the type to be vindictive or arrogant when he had the upper hand, but what he had just witnessed ignited a fire in his gut. This guy didn’t even take a look in the mirror. Throwing money in people’s faces, threatening them with that superior tone... was there any need to humiliate people like that? If Chen Fei hadn’t been here to see it, that would be one thing. But since he had, well, this scumbag only had himself to blame for his misfortune!

”I... I... she... I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I can apologize to them! I can admit I was wrong! I’ll meet all their demands! I have money! My family has tons of money!” Rendered speechless by Chen Fei’s question, Liu Yuanding began to beg loudly for mercy.

He knew with absolute certainty that if Wang Quan and his officers took him away, his fate would be unthinkable. Even his uncle would likely be implicated... and he couldn’t accept that outcome.

”Apologize?”

A cold, mocking smile touched Chen Fei’s lips. ”Your words really get one thinking. The relative of a deputy director of the finance bureau has a family with tons of money? Where did it come from? Don’t you worry, I’ll have someone fully investigate your family’s affairs, and your uncle’s too. If that money was ill-gotten, and if you were behind the unfair treatment my friend received... heheh, then you brought this on yourselves.”

At these words, Liu Yuanding nearly fainted. His legs went weak, and he slumped to the ground.

He knew better than any outsider like Chen Fei how his family had made their money, not to mention his uncle... As for the matter of manipulating Niuniu’s spot in the civil service, it was crystal clear their family was behind it.

”I-I’m sorry! Miss Chen, I was blinded by greed! Please, Miss Chen, I beg you to be merciful and put in a good word for me!” He finally broke down. He wrenched himself free from the police officer beside him and threw himself before Chen Niu, his face trembling as he pleaded with tears in his eyes.

In truth, he was drowning in regret. If he had known Chen Niu had a powerful friend like Chen Fei, would he have dared to steal her spot? That was just asking for death!

”Alright, Officer Wang, take them away,” Chen Fei said, clearly having no intention of giving such a person a second chance. He didn’t even wait for Chen Niu’s hesitant response before signaling for Police Supervisor Wang Quan to remove them, getting the eyesores out of his sight.

Seeing this, the lackeys of Young Master Liu outside felt their souls leave their bodies. They trembled uncontrollably, their faces deathly pale.

If even Young Master Liu was arrested, what chance did they have? There was no escape.

Once the annoying crowd was finally gone, Chen Fei turned his gaze back to the stunned Miss Chu Yan and the others. A smile played on his lips. ”Hey, tomboy, satisfied now? I’d say I got some major payback for Niuniu and Brother Qun. You at least have to treat me to a meal to reward me for that, right?”

”Pfft, in your dreams...” Seeing Chen Fei revert to his familiar, roguish self, Miss Chu Yan snorted reflexively, pouting in dissatisfaction.

”Little Yan...”

At this, Niuniu quickly pinched her arm and then hurriedly thanked Chen Fei. ”Chen... Chen Fei, thank you so much for today. If it weren’t for you, with that Liu Yuanding... we really wouldn’t have known what to do.”

”Yeah.”

Niuniu’s Brother nodded quickly, looking at Chen Fei with a newfound respect that bordered on awe. He said cautiously, ”Brother Fei, how about my sister and I treat you to dinner tonight? We really must thank you for today’s events.”

”Brother Qun, there’s no need to be so formal. It actually makes me a bit uncomfortable,” Chen Fei said with a small smile.

He glanced at Chen Niu and added with a smile, ”Niuniu, I can call you that, right? Don’t worry about your situation. I’ll call a friend later to ask about it. As long as there’s no issue with your written exam score, you can leave the rest to me.”

”Really!?”

Niuniu’s face lit up with joy, but she quickly became reserved again, blushing as she said softly, ”Then I’ll have to trouble you with this. Thank you. And don’t worry, my written exam score is definitely not a problem. I did it all myself.”

”Niuniu, don’t be so polite with him. This big bad guy really won’t be used to it...” Miss Chu Yan muttered casually, then glanced at her watch. ”Are we going to keep singing, or is it about time for dinner?”

”Let’s get out of here first,” Chen Fei said with a smile, making a welcoming gesture. After what had happened, no one was in the mood to keep singing.

They left Caesar Splendor. It’s worth mentioning that the KTV’s upper management had seen Young Master Liu Yuanding get arrested. They were so frightened that they didn’t dare charge a VIP like Chen Fei for the private room or the drinks. It was no joke. The nephew of the deputy director of the Municipal Finance Bureau had been arrested just like that. How could they possibly dare to ask for such a trivial amount for a room and drinks?

About ten minutes later, Chen Fei and the others arrived at a parking lot not far from Caesar Splendor KTV. Niuniu pointed to a small, cute Volkswagen Beetle and said with some embarrassment, ”Chen Fei, this is my car. It might be a bit cramped, so why don’t you sit in the front?”

Although she was trying to force herself to relax, she couldn’t help but feel nervous. After all, Chen Fei’s display in the KTV had been too dominant and impressive for her to simply ignore.

”Nah, I’ll sit in the back with Brother Qun. Otherwise, this tomboy here would probably kill me with her glares,” Chen Fei said, waving his hand and pointing dramatically at Chu Yan, who was staring daggers at him.

”Hmph! You know what’s good for you,” Miss Chu Yan huffed, an expression on her face that said as much. Without hesitation, she slid into the front passenger seat.

Even though the Beetle was a four-seater, the back row was still quite cramped, and she had no intention of suffering back there.

”Hey, Chu Kuantou, what are you doing?” Niuniu was torn between amusement and exasperation. However, her own tension eased a little, and she no longer felt so restrained. The four of them then got into the car.

”Hey, big bad guy, where are we eating? And just so you know, you’re not allowed to rip me off this time. I haven’t gotten paid yet, I’m broke,” Miss Chu Yan announced preemptively as soon as she was settled.

”Since when were you such a penny-pincher?” Chen Fei rolled his eyes and gently tapped her on the head. ”Relax, I was just kidding before. I don’t actually expect you to pay. Brother Qun, I’m not too familiar with Tongzhou. Could you find us a slightly more upscale place? I’m inviting a friend to join us for dinner tonight.”

”Hey! Big bad guy, I’m warning you, don’t hit me on the head!” Miss Chu yelled, clutching her head.

Seeing the two of them bickering so casually, Niuniu couldn’t help but smile to herself. Even though Chen Fei seemed so powerful and impressive, it turned out his personality was incredibly pleasant and down-to-earth.

”If you want upscale, how about Ziyue Grand Hotel? It’s one of the best five-star level hotels in Tongzhou. It’s really nice,” Niuniu’s Brother suggested after a moment’s thought.

He then added with sincerity, ”Also, Fei... Xiaofei, let us treat you to dinner tonight. You’ve helped us so much; how could we possibly let you spend more money?”

”Brother Qun, you really don’t have to... Well, alright then,” Chen Fei started to refuse, but upon seeing the sincere look on his face, he changed his tune and teased, ”In that case, I guess I’ll have to make your wallets hurt tonight.”
