”Don’t be in such a hurry to diss me. Why don’t we hear what this guy has to say? Hmm, tell me, does she really owe you money?” Chen Fei said with a noncommittal smile. He glanced meaningfully at the exceedingly pale Wang Qin on the ground before squinting at the tattooed man in the suit, Brother Dao, and asking his question.

”Well, um... she does owe us money. She lost it at our establishment and then she borrowed a, a little bit more...” Upon hearing this, the tattooed man in the suit, Brother Dao, hesitated and stuttered, his gaze briefly shifting to the even paler Wang Qin on the ground.

”Oh? Is that so? Then how much does she owe you? 600,000?” Chen Fei asked with a hint of surprise and curiosity.

”Well, um... in total... in total, it should be 400,000,” Brother Dao replied tremblingly, stumbling over his words.

”Four hundred thousand?” Chen Fei’s expression darkened slightly as he stroked his chin. ”You guys really know your business. The price goes up by half just like that. Truly worthy of loan sharks—it’s practically robbery!”

”Fei, Brother Fei, it was our mistake. We were blind and didn’t recognize your friend. Don’t worry about the money, it’s not necessary...” Brother Dao blurted out, his forehead now sweating profusely, his speech growing even more faltering.

”No.” Chen Fei shook his head and said lightly, ”I’m not an unreasonable person. Paying back a debt is the right thing to do. Besides, every line of work has its own principles. Since she owes you money, she should pay it back.”

”That’s easy for you to say! This isn’t forty thousand or four thousand dollars. How could it be so easy to just pay it back?” Miss Chu Yan muttered, dissatisfied, her face gloomy.

She resented Chen Fei for being so cavalier. The loan sharks were about to write it off, yet he insisted on repayment... The money *should* be repaid, but the problem was, how could her good sister Aqin possibly come up with such a huge sum all at once?

SMACK!

Chen Fei tapped Miss Chu Yan’s head and teased, ”Weren’t you the one acting all high and mighty just now, saying you would pay for her?”

”Ow, what are you doing! I told you to stop hitting my head!”

At once, Miss Chu Yan burst out. Her eyes welled with tears as she covered her head, glaring at Chen Fei and yelling furiously. Then, she irrationally snapped, ”She’s my best friend! Are you saying I should just stand by and watch her fall into a pit of fire? I don’t care! You have to help me with this now!”

”Yo, you’re pinning this on me now? Come here, let me see how much this little chubster is worth. Speaking of which, it’s been a while. Did you put on some weight?” Chen Fei replied with a teasing smirk as he pinched her cheek.

”Ah! You big jerk! *You’re* fat! Your whole family is fat! I’ll bite you to death!” Hearing this, Miss Chu Yan’s face flushed beet red, and she flew into a rage.

That big jerk is the worst! How dare he say I got fat! I... I... I’ll bite you to death!

”Hey! Are you part dog?! Let go... No, open your mouth! I was wrong, okay?! Let go! Hey!” Chen Fei yelled, exasperated, finally managing to pull the tenacious girl off him.

”Hmph! That’ll teach you to call me fat. If you dare say it again, I’ll bite you to death! Woof!” Seeing Chen Fei surrender, Miss Chu Yan was like a triumphant general. She let go, proudly tilted her head up, ground her teeth, and snarled fiercely.

”Are you actually part dog?” Chen Fei muttered, completely speechless. Then he turned back to the tattooed man. ”Brother Dao, right? Give me a bank account number. I’ll transfer you the money.”

”No, there’s no need, Brother Fei. It’s just a small amount, please keep it as a token of respect...” But Brother Dao didn’t dare take Chen Fei’s money, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead as he spoke.

Before he could finish, Chen Fei interrupted impatiently, ”A token of respect? I’m not your big boss, so you can shove your respect! Now hurry up and give me the account number. A debt is a debt, and it must be paid!”

”Hey, you big jerk, that’s four hundred thousand! Do you really have that kind of money to pay right now?” Miss Chu Yan couldn’t help but whisper at his side.

She could see by now that this big jerk, Chen Fei, probably had some significant backing. Even a spoiled brat like Young Master Zhang had been thoroughly humbled by him. But looking at the cheap, street-stall clothes he was wearing... could he really come up with that much money so casually?

”Not four hundred thousand. Six hundred thousand,” Chen Fei said calmly, then added with a grin, ”You think I’m like you? All talk and no cash? Relax. Your young master here might be short on many things, but money isn’t one of them!”

”You... hmph!” Hearing Chen Fei belittle her again, Miss Chu Yan couldn’t help but snort indignantly.

When Brother Dao heard that Chen Fei was actually going to pay off the debt for that little tramp, he was inwardly overjoyed. Still, he instinctively stammered and wiped the cold sweat from his brow, ”No, no, Brother Fei! Let’s just make it four hundred thousand. No, three hundred thousand! Three hundred thousand is fine.”

”The money isn’t an issue,” Chen Fei said, glancing at him coldly. ”Can you hurry up? I don’t have time to mess around with you.”

”Yes, yes... Uh, Abiao, bring the POS machine!” Although drenched in sweat, Brother Dao didn’t dare to contradict Chen Fei any longer and gestured to an underling behind him. A burly man in black immediately came forward, hesitantly holding a POS machine.

Seeing this, Chen Fei sighed, speechless. Damn, they’re real professionals, alright. They even have all the equipment.

Chen Fei took out his card and swiped it for 600,000. The loan sharks were overjoyed. They bowed profusely, thanking him again and again, before scrambling away and vanishing in a flash.

When Wang Qin saw Chen Fei so easily pay off the 600,000 without bringing up the earlier incident, her alluring eyes lit up. Completely forgetting what she had just done, she got to her feet and straightened her slightly disheveled clothes.

”Brother Fei, hello, I’m Wang Qin, Little Yan’s good friend. Thank you for settling this huge problem for me and repaying that money. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely pay you back as soon as possible. Also, are you free tonight? I’d like to treat you to dinner to thank you.”

”Could you please keep your distance? I don’t believe we’re acquainted.” Her fantasy was shattered in the next instant as Chen Fei stared at her with open disgust.

Was she kidding? He’d witnessed the whole thing from start to finish; how could he not know she was just putting on an act with that scumbag Zhang Quan? He couldn’t even stand the sight of someone who would betray their friends like that. And she wanted to seduce him? How disgusting.

”Aqin, you should go.” Just as Wang Qin’s heavily made-up face stiffened, Miss Chu Yan’s voice, now tinged with distance, sounded beside her. She sighed. ”As for the money, get Chen Fei’s account number and pay him back as soon as you can. As for us... let’s just end it here. Don’t contact me again... *Sigh*.”

She wasn’t a fool; she had seen through it all. The only reason she didn’t explode and confront her so-called best friend for colluding with scum like Zhang Quan to trick her was... it was all in the past. There was no point anymore, was there?

”No, no... Little Yan, listen to my explanation. I... I really had no choice...”

”Enough. I know you had your reasons, but I don’t want to hear them. Just go,” Chu Yan interrupted, her expression weary and her tone turning desolate.

”I... I... Okay, Little Yan, I’ll go for now. I’ll explain in a few days. Please don’t be mad at me, I’m begging you.” The coldness in Chen Fei’s silent gaze as he watched from the side was the final straw. Wang Qin’s face went pale, and she finally left, still trying to explain herself as she went.

As Chen Fei watched the woman stumble away, a complex expression flickered in his eyes. He whispered to Chu Yan, ”She may have had her reasons, but a friend who betrays you once is likely to do it again. She isn’t worth forgiving.”

”Who asked you? Mind your own business!” Miss Chu Yan huffed, clearly signaling that his input was not welcome.

”You really are part dog, aren’t you? I was trying to comfort you! Comfort you!” Chen Fei rolled his eyes and looked to the heavens, exasperated. This girl is a classic example of ungratefulness... to think I was being nice and trying to console her. What a waste of effort.

”You’re the one who’s part dog! Hmph! Let’s go! Take me to get something to eat. I didn’t bring any money, so you’re paying!” But Miss Chu Yan had already tuned out his complaints, grabbing his arm and dragging him away.
