High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 3042: Chapter 55: Positioning

What Master Baoyangzi mentioned about this small matter precisely unveils Zheng Qing’s current subtle situation—he’s like Schr?dinger’s cat, observed from the outside, with a greatly uncertain identity—some people view him as the dean of First University, and some as someone in charge of certain departments.

In the eyes of the latter, Zheng Qing seems too high-profile, be it his love life, his hunting team, his studies, or even the gossip news about him in the ”Beta Town Post,” everything is too loud for someone from a certain department. Besides Master Baoyangzi, he’s probably the second most famous ’person from a certain department’ known within the Alliance and outside of it.

Yet in the eyes of the former, Zheng Qing appears too low-profile, he didn’t show up at the academy’s opening ceremony, he is the only dean without any scheduled classes on the annual curriculum, most of the time the dean’s office is closed in the office building, and many veterans who have studied at Edge Academy for a year don’t even know what their dean looks like.

”—You need to find a definite position for yourself.”

Before leaving, Master Baoyangzi sincerely reminded this young legend: ”Whether it’s the academy or the department, you need to have a focus... only after you determine your focus, others can cooperate with you and find their own place.”

Zheng Qing suspected there was more to his words.

But he wasn’t sure—maybe because the occasion of this conversation was special, and the atmosphere was off, so he was being overly sensitive.

In any case, the advice of the old wizard needs to be taken seriously. In fact, during this short period, Zheng Qing gradually realized the inconveniences brought about by his ’Schr?dinger identity’.

Just like the Xuanhuang Palace.

Theoretically, Xuanhuang Palace is a station of the department, known individuals should not casually disclose it to others. But due to his special status, those legends, when revealing information about Xuanhuang Palace to their close juniors, obviously had fewer scruples. It made Zheng Qing feel inexplicably like he had become a loophole clause in some silence contract.

To solve such thorny unfamiliar problems.

The best way is to seek reference.

Looking around, among the people he knew who were in a situation similar to his, besides Old Yao, there seemed to be only Su Shijun.

Old Yao’s situation was slightly special, after entering First University, like those butchers who converted to Buddhism, he almost severed all worldly ties, having no contact with demons, so he doesn’t serve as a reference.

But Su Shijun is different.

She is both an Upper House Member of the Moon Council and the head of a key laboratory at First University—the conservative wizards in the Alliance have always had a prejudice against the Moon Council, more so, they strictly limit high-level wizards from the Moon Clan entering advanced laboratories involving dimensional theory. Not only has Su Shijun secured her footing in the Two-dimensional Evolution Laboratory, but she can also effectively balance the excessive demands from the Moon Council, making her indeed the perfect person to guide Zheng Qing.

”—That’s because I’m pretty enough.”

At dinner, after hearing Zheng Qing’s worries, Su Shijun picked up a piece of grilled fish and responded righteously—this answer immediately received a unanimous nod of approval from a row of little heads.

Zheng Qing also inexplicably felt this answer was very reasonable.

”—Being pretty really allows one to do as they please.”

A sigh came from the other end of the long table, immediately causing the row of nodding little heads to droop.

Zheng Qing silently picked up a spoon, dug a spoonful of mashed potatoes, and stuffed it into his mouth.

It tasted like chewing wax.

He was now in the dining room of Greenhill Mansion, seeking Su Shijun’s advice after Master Baoyangzi’s reminder, so decided to stay for dinner, only to find out after everyone entered the dining room that Jiang Yu had also stayed.

Su Shijun sat in the main seat.

Jiang Yu sat opposite her.

Thus, in the magnificent long dining room, at one end sat the prestigious host of Greenhill Mansion, and at the other end the esteemed guest of Greenhill Mansion, leaving only the two long sides, the others looking at each other, Little Fox and the three Great Elves promptly chose one side, leaving the other side for Zheng Qing.

Fortunately, Zheng Qing still had Furry Bean.

The dusty gray gouzi lay obediently at the young legend’s feet, behaving very well without making a sound.

Ah, positioning.

The warlock chewed on this word in his heart, sensing Destiny’s mockery, suddenly had a hint of inspiration, looked to the left, then to the right—what could be more apt for his answer than the positioning on this long table? He was already doing well! Master Baoyangzi asked him to find the focus, so balance is his greatest focus.

Nothing better aligns with the concept of Order than balance.

The young legend praised Destiny’s wonder in his heart, nodded slightly and silently. Then immediately, he sensed two sharp gazes from the guest seat, realizing he had nodded the wrong way.

”—I’ve figured it out.”

The warlock found a reason for his nod, and then with a twist of words, slightly misinterpreted Su Shijun’s response: ”Working between two completely different departments, no matter how well you do, it’s impossible to fully gain the approval from either, and it would also confuse others outside the two departments... this is unavoidable. So, why should I necessarily seek others’ approval? Whether I’m in Edge Academy or in the department, as long as I do my best, have a clear conscience, and follow the rules, what others want to do or think is their business... it has nothing to do with me.”

In fact, halfway through speaking, Zheng Qing already vaguely sensed something was amiss.

Perhaps due to that hint of inspiration just now, he always felt there was something odd in what he was saying. So much so that later he had to deliberately emphasize the names of the two departments.

Su Shijun and Jiang Yu, however, listened very quietly.

As if they hadn’t noticed the alternative interpretation in the warlock’s words.

”—Why don’t you try looking at this matter from a legendary perspective, huh?” Across the long table, Poseidon suddenly raised the small fork in his hand, asking Zheng Qing with a solemn face.

Upon hearing this, the three adults present looked at the little fox in astonishment. The subtleties of the atmosphere around the dining table were also instantly dispelled.

”How do you mean?”

Zheng Qing asked with a hint of gratitude in his tone.

”—Isn’t everyone saying that being a legend is a more magical concept than magic?”

Little Fox stuffed a cherry tomato from the fork into her mouth, chewing with her cheeks bulging and a serious expression: ”Since magic can create miracles, then a legend naturally can create miracles of miracles... under the miracle of miracles, what problem could there be!”

As she spoke.

She looked to the left.

Then to the right.

Finally looked straight ahead, with a face saying, ”Aren’t I amazing, praise me quickly.”

”Amazing! As expected of my Dong Dong!”

Zheng Qing sincerely praised.
