High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 3037: Chapter 50: Gift

Tap tap tap!

Su Ya lifted her skirt and trotted to Zheng Qing.

”Wow! Finally found you!”

The little fox lady was so anxious her tail almost popped out from her skirt. As she urgently tugged at the warlock’s robe, she chattered: ”—Miss said it’s time for the blessing segment... Your gift? Is the gift for Dong Dong ready?”

Korma gracefully sidestepped, clearing a route for the warlock to leave.

Zheng Qing put down his wine glass.

He took a light breath, touched his grey cloth bag, and a hint of confidence appeared on his face.

”—Of course it’s ready.”

His gift for Poseidon was a jade plaque, inscribed only with the simple word ’peace’, but surrounding that word were four gemstones arranged in the structure of the Four Image Array, each containing a distinct legendary guarding curse—Taiyi, Primordial, Yellow Flowered Cat, and Little Azure Dragon—Zheng Qing believed that with such a plaque on oneself, most high-level wizards inside and outside the Alliance would avoid it, and magic from mid to low-level wizards couldn’t break the plaque’s inherent passive guarding.

However, his confidence felt slightly shaky at the sight of the little fox.

”Tch.”

Su Shijun clearly saw the jade plaque in the warlock’s hand, and her tone was filled with undeniable disappointment: ”—Another plaque... I’ve figured it out, you legendary wizards are all stingy.”

Her words made sense.

Because as she spoke, Zheng Qing could see the stack of colorful jade plaques hanging from Poseidon’s neck. Although he wasn’t currently utilizing Taiyi’s power, over the years he had become sensitive to the aura of legendary wizards in the Alliance, easily detecting many familiar vibes from that stack of plaques.

Like Vice Principal Ruoyu, Professor Emma, Old Yao from the school;

Like Lady Shi Hui, Mr. Albert from the Alliance;

Like Su Meiniang from the Qingqiu Family, the old lady from Zhongshan;

And even the Rat Immortal.

There were even a few plaques with deep auras, carrying black magic and starlit scents, haphazardly placed in a wooden box next to the little fox, alongside poorly crafted gemstone fox dolls by Su Ya.

Zheng Qing’s eye twitched slightly.

The large red lantern, marked with the Qingqiu spinning fox tail emblem, floated slowly over his head, casting an uncertain yellow glow, making the warlock’s complexion look somewhat ’unpredictable’. Further away, the ninfus musicians circling the Nine-Tail altar had just adjusted the program list and started playing ”The Voice of Spring Waltz”. The music enveloping the mansion became lively and bright, but to Zheng Qing’s ear, it sounded as though a lark perched on a branch was mocking.

Poseidon sat on a cattail mat, wearing a fluffy short robe and holding a large brush someone had given him, gazing expectantly at Zheng Qing.

Suddenly, Zheng Qing felt the jade plaque in his hand grow a bit hot.

”—What did you gift?”

He laughed awkwardly, avoided the little fox’s gaze, and looked towards Su Shijun—despite wearing glasses today, she was dressed in a vibrant red robe, her skin like snow, giving her an exquisite and incomparable charm.

Before Su Shijun could respond to the warlock’s question, Poseidon’s little face drooped instead.

”A complete Secret Edition of the ’Qingqiu Magic Potion Atlas’, we always gift this when our little foxes successfully transform.”

Su the Beauty cheerfully raised her chin, gently rubbing Poseidon’s sad face: ”—I’ve decided, after today’s transformation celebration, I’ll invite the school’s Potion Professor to lecture her... The content from the nanny and old masters at home is too outdated. Can you believe it? They still insist on lighting wormwood incense burners in the corners of the room during classes, thinking it wards off evil and enhances the child’s focus... Decades ago, my elders had already started secretly baking scones in the incense burners... *cough* what I mean is, Dong Dong at this age should be exposed to more cutting-edge magic.”

Zheng Qing looked at the little fox with sympathy.

Feeling she’ll burst into tears any moment.

”—Hurry and give her your gift, we still need to introduce her to some elders.” Su Shijun urged: ”You’re supposed to be the host here, can’t have me doing everything.”

While Zheng Qing hesitated.

A familiar voice rang in his ear.

”Hey, why did you come alone? Weren’t we supposed to come together?”

Jiang Yu’s cheerful voice sounded by his ear—Zheng Qing could almost feel that at this moment, the entire wine party’s noise seemed to lower several degrees, those stealthy gazes nearly igniting this corner.

Poseidon clearly sensed the suddenly increased eyes around him, but clueless of what transpired, he stretched his neck curiously, looking around.

Don’t say, no mistake.

Say, mistake.

The more said, the worse the mistake.

Zheng Qing silently recited the twelve-word true statement in his heart, stiffly turned and looked at Jiang Yu, not knowing how to start, then the witch suddenly stuffed a duck egg-sized egg into his hand.

Rune markings on the eggshell, briefly flickered with a shimmer.

”—Isn’t this the gift you prepared for Dong Dong? You came too fast and left it with me.” The witch smiled at him, blinking playfully.

Su Shijun squinted her eyes, silent.

”What is this?” Zheng Qing moved his lips, inquiring with his gaze.

”The egg laid by my Damao, the best looking one.” Jiang Yu succinctly replied.

Zheng Qing immediately realized, the egg in his arms was a Zhongshan Hairy Dragon’s egg—a magical creature native to Zhongshan, its lineage never leaked, all wizards knew that the one riding a Hairy Dragon must belong to the Zhongshan Jiang Family.

Jiang Yu’s choice to gift Poseidon this egg was laden with deep meaning.

But regardless of deeper implications, for now, what mattered most to Zheng Qing was receiving a gift that wasn’t a jade plaque, relatively precious, to give Poseidon.

He eagerly placed the Hairy Dragon egg into the little fox’s arms.

”—Do you like it?” He rubbed the little fox’s head, reminded: ”After transformation, you’ve grown up. You should learn to take care of those around you... don’t make others worry too much.”

Stopping for a moment, he ultimately hung the jade plaque he prepared around the little fox’s neck.

Poseidon wore a serious expression, nodding earnestly.

In a flash, she hugged her newly acquired Hairy Dragon egg, and joyfully ran off. Whether to find Su Ya, or Li Meng. Of course, she might even be going to find Zhu Si—just on the way here, Zheng Qing noticed Teacher Zhu had reverted back to a child.
