High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 3016: Chapter 29: Su Shijun’s Worries

The Hunters of Absolution started their night training again.

Zhu Si also brought the trembling Mouse People and four Big Mice, dragging that round pumpkin car, dawdling all the way back to Beta Town. Leaving with her were Poseidon, the Great Elf, and Li Meng and Su Ya, all stuffed back into the pumpkin car.

Among these people, not a single one was willing to leave.

But after tasting the atmosphere on site, not a single one was willing to stay—this even included Furry Bean, who very proactively took on the task of escorting the pumpkin car back.

Very soon, under the archway, only Zheng Qing and the two witches were left.

Oh, and a Yellow Flowered Cat pretending it didn’t exist, plus a Little Green Snake pretending it was a pendant.

The night wind breezed softly.

Chill gusts came in waves.

When Zheng Qing realized he was isolated and unsupported, he finally understood how terrible a choice it had been not to defend the Yuzui Hunting Team and Poseidon and the rest just now.

But now that things had come to this, he could only grit his teeth and face this thorny scene alone.

”—Shall we go in?”

The warlock looked left and right, and finally picked a topic that seemed relatively safe: ”It’s windy out here... you can go inside and see if there’s anything in the yard that needs patching up or rebuilding.”

The Yellow Flowered Cat bolted off, taking the lead, and kicked open the gate of ”Ziwei Palace” in advance.

The two witches exchanged a glance and moved at the same time.

Jiang Yu was closer to the door.

But Su Shijun’s legs were longer.

The two of them didn’t use any magic and stepped over that tall threshold almost at the same moment, leaving Zheng Qing standing under the archway all alone, caught between advancing and retreating.

This matter, in the end, needs a result.

He quietly sighed in his heart, clenched his jaw, and went in as well. When he too crossed the threshold, the thick wooden doors of Ziwei Palace slammed shut behind him, cutting off all those sneaky gazes in the forest.

...

...

”—Come on, let’s go, I knew it, no show today.”

Hugging Poseidon, Zhu Si shoved at Li Meng and Su Ya, urging everyone to hurry back into the pumpkin car, complaining resentfully at the same time: ”Totally wasted one of my Legendary Level Concealing Talismans...”

”Isn’t that the kind of thing you can get as many as you want?” A Gu Diao perched on a tree tilted its head toward the Little Witch; only the sound from its mouth wasn’t a baby’s sharp cry, but the voice of North District Grand-Wizard Korma.

If she’d stayed quiet it would’ve been fine; once she spoke, Zhu Si got even more annoyed.

”You have them too, so why didn’t you take one out just now?” She glared at the ”Gu Diao.”

The Gu Diao spread its broad wings and flapped them gracefully: ”—Right now I’m just a bird, how would I be carrying something that precious on me!”

Not far from the pumpkin car.

Unlike Zhu Si and the others’ ”shallow” outlook, the young Hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team had much deeper gazes.

”—I saw it very clearly, Sister Yu’s toes were a tiny bit faster than Councilor Su’s!” Zhang Yudou folded his arms and nodded with absolute certainty: ”So she definitely went in first!”

”Who goes in first isn’t the most important thing.”

Dylan gave a very slight shake of his head, clearly disagreeing with the witch’s view: ”You’re clan-born too, you should know for our kind of wizards, offspring matter more than status... especially for high-level wizards, bloodline reproduction is extremely difficult. From that angle, Councilor Su was born standing on invincible ground.”

”Does Mr. Zha count as a high-level wizard now?”

Zhang Ji Xin looked a bit puzzled: ”When I touched him just now, I felt his aura was only at Registered wizard level... absolutely no hint of high-level flavor.”

”Big Ren never talked to you about this?” Zhang Yudou raised a finger and wagged it like an old man: ”Whether he’s truly high-level doesn’t matter; as long as the school or the Alliance considers him high-level, that’s enough...”

Zhang Ji Xin’s expression grew even more confused: ”—The problem is, only real high-level wizards have difficulty reproducing. ’Pseudo’ high-levels shouldn’t have the issue Dylan mentioned, right?”

”Doctor, what do you think?”

”What do I think? I think you’re all screwed.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, face full of exasperation: ”Why do you think they went inside? Mr. Zha just glanced over here twice—he’s definitely already noticed us...”

”Him noticing doesn’t matter, as long as Sister Yu didn’t see us.” Xin Fat Man clearly knew whose words carried more weight.

...

...

Outside the walls is a racket that can’t be heard inside.

Inside the walls the crickets can’t be seen from outside.

The Yellow Flowered Cat tucked in its paws, sprawled on the palace wall, eyes half-closed, one ear listening to the little squabbles outside, the other ear to the scheming inside, and felt that tonight was passing in an exceptionally rich way.

In the yard.

By the edge of the dried-up pond.

Su Shijun ignored Jiang Yu’s stony face, gripping Zheng Qing’s shoulders and carefully examining him up and down. Her strength wasn’t great, but Zheng Qing didn’t dare move, because Su Daxu was warning him with her eyes that if he dared break free, the consequences would be even worse.

”—You’re in much better shape than I expected.”

Contrary to Zheng Qing’s expectations, Su Shijun really seemed to be checking something—which also forced Jiang Yu to swallow down her anger. A look of relief appeared on her face; noticing the warlock’s confusion, she gave a brief explanation: ”A few days ago, when you were being questioned in Danghag, didn’t you see me?”

”I did...” Zheng Qing grew even more baffled, not knowing why she was bringing this up.

”Then why didn’t you say hi to me?” The witch cut off his mumbling, her tone edged with some displeasure: ”—You made me worry for days for nothing!”

That sentence made Zheng Qing a bit moved and a bit nervous.

He had already mentioned to Jiang Yu that he hadn’t spoken to Su Shijun at the Danghag hearing. He hadn’t expected to get confirmation from the person herself so soon.

He clearly felt Jiang Yu look at him with satisfaction when she heard Su Shijun’s words.

It was stressful as hell.

On one hand, he had no idea what plans Su Da Fox was cooking up in her heart, handing him such a big ”gift”; on the other, he also had no idea what Su Shijun had been worrying about.

”There were a lot of people at that hearing, and I had to face more than one Legend, the pressure was a bit much.” The warlock gave a vague explanation, then shifted the topic: ”—What’s there to be worried about in something like that?”

Jiang Yu continued patiently keeping silent.

Su Shijun was quiet for a few seconds.

”—I heard that two years ago, you and the Headmaster went to a very high, very distant place?” The Upper House Member of the Moon Council chose her words very precisely and her tone was extremely serious; there wasn’t the slightest hint of joking on her face: ”I thought you’d been affected by ’that place’ and lost part of your humanity.”

At the word ”Headmaster,” the Yellow Flowered Cat immediately jumped down from the wall, darted to the three people’s feet, tail held upright, circled them once, and raised a semi-transparent shielding barrier.
