High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 3023: Chapter 36: Laboratory and Library

After the proposed appointment of Gongsun Xiaoli and Professor Barton was announced, the Dean’s Office of the Edge Academy did not receive certain expected reactions, which allowed Zheng Qing’s anxious heart to gradually relax, while secretly wondering if he was being overly sensitive.

But soon, he realized he had relaxed too early.

Less than a week later, a document was sent from the Institute of Applied Magic to the Dean’s Office of the Edge Academy, with its content being very simple—following the school’s research decision, the Dimension Ascension Research Institute’s Two-dimensional Evolution Laboratory and Giant God Soldier Management Laboratory are now allocated to the direct management sequence of the Edge Academy, along with the personnel relations of Su Shijun, head of the Two-dimensional Evolution Laboratory, and Lin Guo, head of the Giant God Soldier Management Laboratory.

At the end of the document, the three bright red seals belonging to the Professor Joint Meeting, School Works Committee, and Institute of Applied Magic were neatly lined up together, like three huge smiling faces mocking someone.

”——When did the Giant God Soldier project establish a management laboratory?”

In the Dean’s Office of the Edge Academy, Zheng Qing sat behind the large desk, feeling rather speechless as he looked at the clear-faced warlock across from him, paused, and then added: ”And they let you take charge... Is there no one else in the project team? What about Doctor Du Zemu?”

Zheng Qing first met Lin Guo when he was just twelve years old.

Now, four years later, he’s just a sixteen-year-old kid, still considered a minor even by the dimensions of the Common People’s World. Therefore, Zheng Qing was very dissatisfied with the school entrusting a laboratory to Lin Guo.

But he forgot, sixteen-year-old boys are at an age filled with rebellious spirit.

They most dislike others saying they are too young.

”——The Giant God Soldier Management Laboratory was just established, mainly responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of ’ordinary’ Giant God Soldiers. Laboratory members are assigned by the Giant God Soldier project team; if you think I’m incompetent, please submit official feedback to the school.”

Lin Guo’s face was stiff, and the dissatisfaction in his tone was even greater than Zheng Qing’s, especially biting hard on the words ’ordinary’ and ’incompetent’.

Zheng Qing was taken aback and quickly waved his hand.

”No, I didn’t mean that, sorry.”

He smiled bitterly, sighed heavily, ”I’m not saying you’re incapable, but this project is very ’serious.’ You’re still underage, and the school letting you take on such heavy responsibility is a dereliction of duty!”

Having spent so long in the Giant God Soldier project team.

Unlike the outside wizards who knew little of Zheng Qing, Lin Guo was one of the few who knew Zheng Qing controlled two Legendary Giant God Soldiers.

Therefore, when a Legendary Wizard apologized to him, the once shy boy instantly returned.

”What you said is a fact, no need to apologize to me.”

The young lab head muttered, his complexion looking much better, paused briefly, then added, ”Doctor Du Zemu has many research topics to focus on, such as the cold start method for those two big fellows of yours, and so forth... So he probably doesn’t have time to manage this small lab responsible for ordinary Giant God Soldiers.”

Ordinary Giant God Soldiers, the ones Zheng Qing once piloted as Edge Type One, naturally lose attraction compared to Legendary level models.

A cluster of green flames suddenly appeared in front of Zheng Qing.

Tongues of flame swirling, in an instant sketching out a delicate-looking Green Bird, which shook its tail, spread its wings, spun around a few times, then crisply announced: ”——No time!”

Just those three simple words, full of momentum.

Making Lin Guo, who sat at the desk, unable to help glancing at it a few more times, curious who was so impolite to a Legend. Then the Green Bird’s next words answered his puzzlement.

”——Come to the Greenhill Mansion for a chat if there’s trouble!”

After saying this, without waiting for the warlock’s response, the little Green Bird held its chest and bowed, then exploded into sparks, disappearing from the office.

The entire process didn’t even take a minute.

Zheng Qing noticed Lin Guo’s meaningful gaze, smiled awkwardly, ”Ha, haha... The Institute of Applied Magic allocated two labs to the Edge Academy, one belonging to you, the other... You should know whose it is.”

As he spoke, he sighed deeply again, his voice tinged with wistfulness: ”Korma was right, letting them into the Edge Academy was definitely a mistake!”

Lin Guo comforted, ”It’s okay, with only Su Councilor alone, it’s not that bad.”

Zheng Qing expressed skepticism.

As it turned out, his doubts were justified.

In just two days following the assignment of Su Shijun’s lab to direct management under the Edge Academy, Zheng Qing saw a very familiar name on the new list of staff under the Order Tree.

”——Why is Jiang Yu in there?”

Clutching that piece of parchment, he stormed into the Shadow Cat’s office—it was now bearing the title of Order Office Director, responsible for related personnel recruitment—Zheng Qing’s tone carried a hint of anger: ”Does her family know about this? Don’t cause trouble for everyone!”

”Do you think her family knows or not?”

The Shadow Cat did not show the slightest intimidation, lounging on the soft sofa, leisurely licking the goat milk dumpling hovering before it, sarcastically looking at the owner of Order: ”As for the trouble you mentioned, do you think pretending not to see it will make it disappear? If you’re truly afraid of trouble, you shouldn’t have let that girl from the Moon Council into the Edge Academy.”

”That was the school’s arrangement!” Zheng Qing felt somewhat ashamed and annoyed.

”It’s the arrangement of the relevant departments.” The Shadow Cat chuckled coldly.

One person and one cat stared each other down stubbornly, neither willing to give up. Zheng Qing’s Black Gem Cats sensed a familiar presence outside, one by one sneaking out of his hat pocket, crouching on the warlock’s shoulders, curiously watching the enormous creature resembling them on the opposite side, their eyes filled with astonishment.

”A person’s intelligence is limited, averaged out too much, and the IQ distributed across each individual will become less and less.” The Shadow Cat snorted: ”... Having so many clones, each one is a fool.”

Zheng Qing interrupted angrily: ”Whether they’re dumb has nothing to do with you! Don’t divert the topic! They are related to department work, which is so dangerous...”

”Is there any work around you that’s not dangerous?” The Shadow Cat asked back.

Seeing Zheng Qing speechless, it pressed its advantage, adding: ”——If you’re really worried, you can arrange for her to manage the library. Isn’t the Order Tree’s librarian position still vacant?”

Zheng Qing was silent for a long time.

Ultimately, he sighed deeply: ”Why?”

The Shadow Cat cast a sidelong glance at him.

This time, it did not give a dismissive answer, but provided a sincere one: ”She came looking for me, and I naturally have no reason to refuse. Because in case I accidentally become your shadow again, once trampled underfoot again, I have no confidence you can honestly let me out... So, I need to ’buy’ some insurance.”
