High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 3033: Chapter 46: Don’t Scratch Old Scars

Not far from the newly born Xuanhuang Palace.

In the secluded woods.

Jiang Yu tightened her plain-colored cloak around her body, standing under a Return Soul Poplar, silently observing the shimmering Silent River in the distance, when suddenly she heard faint footsteps nearby.

”—Why didn’t you let me question further just now?”

She asked without turning her head, seemingly aware of the identity of the incoming person.

A light fragrance wafted over, and Su Shijun’s cheerful voice sounded behind the witch: ”Why ask about something you already know? Why ask a question with no answer? Do you want to make things difficult for him, or yourself? Or perhaps you don’t have confidence in him, and neither in yourself?”

The witch by the riverside remained silent.

A hand rested on Jiang Yu’s shoulder. She turned her head, gazing at the long, fair, nearly translucent hand that resembled beautiful jade, somewhat entranced.

The Upper House Member of the Moon Council silently appeared beside her, speaking with a hint of pride and slight annoyance: ”—He can still continue looking at you in my presence; you should have more confidence in yourself.

As for the matters of the Palin World, those who should know probably already do. He hasn’t intentionally hidden it, presuming that adults from both our families can deduce what happened over there... know who is there. He let us know of her existence but hasn’t brought her back, which already reveals a lot. So why bring up this question again?”

”He clearly could have brought Elena back to school.” Jiang Yu moved her gaze from the hand on her shoulder, looking down at her toes, muttering: ”—He’s afraid to bring her back, clearly has a guilty conscience.”

”Wrong, only by keeping that Gypsy witch at a distance can he maintain a safe enough distance from her.”

Su Shijun fiddled with the girl’s hair, shaking her head slightly: ”Sometimes, distance may create beauty; but most of the time, distance only creates estrangement... Only sufficient distance can keep that estrangement ongoing. As far as I know, the Palin World is among the farthest places from us... any further would be the realm of the God of Death.

Neither you, me, nor him can deny the existence of that Gypsy witch.

That Gypsy witch is like a scar to him, what’s past is past. He hides that scar, yet you purposely poke at it... continuously picking at the scar will only cause the wound to repeatedly break, unable to heal... don’t think about erasing the existence of that scar. Wounds can heal, scars won’t. Scars are scars, they’ll stay there.”

These words seemed reasonable.

But the person saying them seemed odd.

Jiang Yu pursed her lips, carefully pushing away the hand messing with her shoulder and hair.

She turned to look at Su Shijun.

Her expression was somewhat peculiar.

”—Why are you telling me this?”

Considering their relationship, she had good reason to suspect that this Upper House Member of the Moon Council was up to some mischief—especially since the foxes of Qingqiu tend to enjoy stirring people’s hearts.

”Because I worry you might truly lose your mind, act without consideration, and bring that Gypsy witch back from Palin... thus adding a new trouble to our already chaotic relationships.”

The Upper House Member of the Qingqiu Family sighed rather troubledly: ”Having you as a trouble is already humiliating enough for me... Another one? Oh, the various fox spirits on Qingqiu Mountain would probably laugh their bellies open! Just like my elderly ancestor said the other day—never has a fox spirit been as inept at flirting with warlocks as I am.”

Poof.

Jiang Yu couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Immediately realizing her mistake, she quickly put on a stern face.

Su Shijun glanced at her, her expression somewhat amused: ”—Laugh if you want to. Acting like a wooden board at such a young age, isn’t it tiring? Hmm, wait, does that little brat like this type of demeanor? Should I also act colder?”

She hugged her arms, lost in thought.

This time, Jiang Yu couldn’t laugh at all.

She let out a muffled groan.

Transforming into a white phantom, she leapt into the air.

Just like she did moments ago in Xuanhuang Palace.

Except this time, no sooner had she jumped up than she was caught mid-air by the scruff of her neck—without using some special methods, a registered wizard stood no chance before a big wizard. Right now, Jiang Yu was quite sure, it wasn’t time to use those special methods.

”—What are you doing?”

The little white cat struggled in the big fox’s hand, a bell beneath its chin emitted a voice full of frustration.

”Ah, don’t scratch around... I hadn’t finished speaking, why are you running away? Sorry, I was a bit quick, my mind hadn’t caught up.”

Su Shijun laughed awkwardly, yet didn’t let go, merely held the little white cat a bit further away and quickly added:

”I just wanted to remind you, this Saturday night, Greenhill Mansion is holding a small-scale party to celebrate Dong Dong’s transformation... remember to attend! Hmm, don’t come as a cat, there’s a perverse Gouzi in the garden, always likes to mimic cat calls. I bet seeing you like this, it’d have bad intentions...”

Having said that, she lightly released her grip.

The little white cat landed lightly on the ground, then looked up, annoyed, at the Upper House Member of the Moon Council, shook its tail, and vanished silently behind the shrub.

Su Shijun rubbed her fingers that had just pinched the little white cat, murmuring softly: ”Hmm, the tactile feeling is really nice... no wonder it’s made that black cat so obsessed...”

...

...

Staying at Xuanhuang Palace, Zheng Qing was naturally unaware of these small matters happening by the river.

At this moment, he was standing before the large pit left in the wake of the old locust tree’s escape, craning his neck to peer downward. All that was visible was a bottomless cave. Along the soil walls, remnants of the old locust tree’s roots were still hanging, gently swaying in the breeze, stirring the dense magic power within the cave, exuding an intoxicating scent.

”—It’s a spirit cave, magic power is extremely abundant.”

Yellow Flowered Cat lay on Zheng Qing’s shoulder, also craning its head to look down: ”Very good, the Protect Legal Formation of Xuanhuang Palace can be structured around this spirit cave as the core... don’t look, there’s no treasure cave below... If there was, the old locust tree couldn’t have lived so long... Moreover, I think you can directly release the small world into this cave, the abundant magic inside is sufficient to assimilate everything from that small world.”

”Won’t it burst Xuanhuang Palace?” Zheng Qing touched the emerald ring on his hand, hesitating a bit.

Flower Cat squinted at him, scoffing: ”Are you looking down on me, or Xiaoqing? Or perhaps you think the two Giant God Soldiers on your hand are just ornamental toys?”
