High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1150: Chapter 212: Su Ya Gives a Gift

As the late spring days arrived, it was still warm yet chilly, and even at noon, the air remained cool.

As Zheng Qing stepped out of the dormitory, he immediately noticed a familiar figure.

The Little Fox Lady, Su Ya, stood below the big oak at the dorm entrance, a basket in hand, glaring angrily at several warlocks.

At the sight of the Little Fox Lady, Poseidon, who was otherwise cheerful, wilted like a frost-beaten eggplant. His large tail curled up, covering his face as he hid in Zheng Qing’s embrace, looking rather embarrassed.

Zheng Qing’s eyes twitched, sensing that something was amiss.

”Why did it take you so long to come down?!” The little maid huffed at Zheng Qing, looking as though she wanted to slap the warlock’s face with the basket in her arms. The other students passing by curiously glanced over, and the two roommates also showed expressions of ’disgust’ and ’scum’, distancing themselves slightly from Zheng Qing.

This questioning puzzled the young scholarship student, who chose his words carefully, wanting to understand the reason first. Undoubtedly, this blame had something to do with Poseidon.

”I didn’t know you were waiting down here,” the warlock scratched his head, looking around, trying to appear casual, ”Did you guys know?”

Xin and the Doctor both shook their heads resolutely in denial. However, while Xin denied it, his eyes revealed envy, jealousy, and resentment; he too wished for such a charming and cute Little Witch to seek him out. Doctor Xiao, having been to Greenhill Mansion, was well aware of Su Ya’s identity and thus curious about her purpose.

Su Ya ignored the three men’s subtle moves.

She stepped forward swiftly, reaching into Zheng Qing’s embrace, and grabbed Poseidon by the scruff of his neck, shouting, ”Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you down here? Next time you do this, I won’t take you out to play again...”

Only then did the warlocks realize whom she was addressing and why Poseidon was in the dorm at noon.

Zheng Qing noticed from the corner of his eye that the fabric around the Little Fox Lady’s waist quivered slightly, guessing it must have been her large tail moving unconsciously.

At the same time, he realized another thing.

”How did you manage to take Poseidon out without my permission?” The warlock was curious about this—indeed, Su Shijun had good reasons to take the Little Fox, but others at school didn’t know, did they? Theoretically, unless Zheng Qing, the pet’s owner, permitted, the Pet Park Duty staff needed to be fully responsible for such actions.

As everyone knows, student council officers are skilled at dodging and shirking responsibilities.

Poseidon curled his paws, obediently staying in Su Ya’s arms, while pitifully looking towards Zheng Qing. Zheng Qing was helpless—sorry, she’s your mom, and furthermore, I have classes in the afternoon.

Having retaken the Little Fox into her arms, Su Ya then seemed to realize that there were other warlocks nearby.

She also belatedly remembered Zheng Qing’s earlier question.

”I’m from Greenhill Mansion!” The Little Fox Lady proudly puffed out her chest, ”Besides, this isn’t the first time I’ve taken him out... When have you ever objected?”

Zheng Qing sighed faintly, reluctantly accepting her explanation.

”So, did you just come here to walk Poseidon casually?” he emphasized the word ”casually” a bit more.

Su Ya scratched her head—Zheng Qing noticed that she was actually scratching behind her ear—her face showing a hint of realization.

”Oh, right.” The little fox lady reached into the basket, rummaged around for a while, and finally unearthed a misty green jade pendant amidst a pile of nuts, fresh flowers, and beautiful little stones.

”Here, this is for you from Miss,” she said nonchalantly, seemingly indifferent to being overheard, ”She said your Charm Gun was confiscated, and you should take this for self-defense.”

Zheng Qing’s face instantly turned pale with fright.

He keenly sensed a three-foot high flame of gossip from his two roommates beside him and their suspiciously green tinge of envy, giving him a feeling of being backstabbed.

You’re not afraid of getting me beaten up in a ditch, are you, the young public expense student grumbled inwardly.

Yet, his face mixed expressions of astonishment and gratitude: ”I’m really... thank you so much!”

As he spoke, he snatched the jade pendant, stuffed it into the grey cloth bag at his waist, and turned his head to look at Xin Fat Man, trying to appear more natural, ”Um, you know, Su Councilor was also a public expense student at Jiuyou... Public expense students have their own little circle... She heard about the school probation thing and wasn’t pleased with how the school handled it... Consider it nurturing the juniors, I guess.”

The reason he didn’t look at Xiao Xiao was that Zheng Qing wasn’t sure he could meet Doctor Xiao’s eyes while spinning this half-truth tale.

His explanation was half true, half false; after all, only he was a public expense student present, and nobody else knew what went on within such circles. As to whether his companions would verify this with Liu Fei Fei afterward, or how Xiao Xiao would handle it next year when he became a public expense student, Zheng Qing hadn’t thought that far ahead yet.

All he wanted was to get past this awkward moment.

The little fox lady, having completed her task, lacked any further interest in chatting with the warlocks and, holding the Little Fox, hopped away cheerfully.

Only after the little fox lady’s figure had disappeared did the warlocks truly sigh in relief.

”When did you start hooking up with Su Ya?” Xin Fat Man looked at Zheng Qing as if viewing a scumbag, yet his tone was full of envy: ”Can you introduce me to one too... I remember there are several little fox ladies at Greenhill Mansion.”

Compared to the Fat Man, Xiao Xiao’s focus was much more pragmatic: ”Aren’t you afraid Elena might use Tarot Cards to chop off your bits? Gypsy witches might be liberal with love, but sometimes they are stubborn. Just like Carmen or Esmeralda.”

”And what about Jiang Yu? Your former school council senior, what was her name? She already declared you were her boyfriend, didn’t she?” Fat Man moved closer with a gossipy face.

Seeing that his companions seemed to accept his previous explanation, Zheng Qing breathed a sigh of relief inside, unusually not annoyed by Fat Man’s words, but simply pushed away his greasy chubby face, flatly denying, ”Nonsense... I don’t even know what you guys are talking about.”

”She could have given it to Grandpa Niwu, and you could have picked it up when you came down,” analyzed Fat Man. ”She wouldn’t wait in such cold weather just because of Su Daxu’s order.”

Upon hearing that sensitive name, Zheng Qing quickly tucked the grey cloth bag deeper against his waist and, with a stern face, quickened his pace, ”Cold weather? The sun is so bright, how can it be cold... Are you guys so idle now, with only a quarter-hour until class starts, aren’t you worried about being late?”

With that, he turned into a small path along the edge of the lawn and strode away briskly.
