High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1104: Chapter 166 Stupid Cat

”No matter if you seek help from elders, peruse archives, find Black Wizards, or use some other methods, as long as you give me the answer I want at the designated time and place, that’s all that matters.”

”Remember, your time is extremely limited. If you can’t find any related clues after a month, then I can’t guarantee that the school won’t take action on this secret realm... They could finish their business at any time and begin to clear up the mess outside.”

After Fei Rui laid out his conditions in a straightforward manner, he patted his butt and rode away on a White Weasel, disappearing into the depths of Silent Forest, leaving behind two witches and a Black Cat, staring at each other in silence.

After a while, it was Korma, the leader, who spoke first.

”I have some resources in the student council, so I can take responsibility for collecting information within the school,” she said hesitantly, revealing her plan: ”Also, I’m familiar with the North District of Beta Town, so I can ask my friends to look into it... But I doubt how much I can find out if the school really wants to cover up a wizard’s trace, especially since it’s been nearly twenty years.”

Clearly, she wasn’t very confident about the task she was about to undertake.

The Gypsy witch spoke up right after: ”I can ask some elders from the Witch Group about this matter and also friends from Dark Blue Castle and Thorn Ancient Castle, maybe they know something.”

After the two witches finished speaking, they both looked up at the Black Cat squatting between the tree branches.

The Black Cat’s face was tense, but he felt somewhat panicked inside.

He knew he had to say something to deal with the situation at hand, but at the same time, he didn’t want to reveal that he knew Dr. Terry Duzem— in fact, he wouldn’t share a single bit of information about the Abnormal Life Research Institute without the doctor’s consent.

”I can ask the small animals on the island about this matter,” the Black Cat said dryly: ”I also have a group of subordinates from the Cat Department who can help look around...”

Upon hearing this, the two witches were deeply disappointed.

Korma, who was always blunt, directly criticized: ”Which of your animal friends has the intelligence of an Ordinary Wizard to distinguish the difference between male and female witches? And how many of them have a memory that lasts longer than ten minutes?”

This is outright speciesism!

The Black Cat immediately opened his eyes wide and retorted: ”Your Spiritual Cat can’t tell the difference between male and female wizards? My subordinates are all Spiritual Cats! Spiritual Cats! Not goldfish, but Spiritual Cats! Spiritual Cats can distinguish the difference between male and female wizards!”

”Ho-ho, that’s truly exhilarating news,” the Gypsy witch teased with a chuckle.

”Spiritual Cats are also cats,” Korma said, not planning to joke and bluntly dismissing the Black Cat’s words: ”With your kind’s visual range not exceeding ten meters, only able to discern blue and green due to partial colorblindness, it’s rather hard to be reassured.”

The Black Cat immediately drooped down, disheartened.

What the witch said made sense. Even Zheng Qing had doubts about the capabilities of his Cat Department subordinates. People often say cats are neurotic animals, referring to the way these furry creatures get startled and jump three feet in the air by things that suddenly appear beside them, like loofahs, bell peppers, balls of yarn, etc.

This actually related to the limitation in cats’ vision that Korma just mentioned. Because of their short vision and partial colorblindness, if something suddenly appears within their peripheral vision, it can easily startle these sensitive creatures.

”Not all Spiritual Cats are like that.” The Black Cat muttered under his breath, quietly trying to defend: ”My vision is pretty much the same as an ordinary human; I can see all colors... ”

His protests were getting quieter and less confident.

On one hand, he wasn’t a real feline animal, just a wizard transformed by magic; on the other hand, Zheng Qing was also aware of the accidents on his person that seemed to break the existing rules of magic, which left him with little ground to argue. Because he wasn’t really a cat, he didn’t know whether the differences between himself and a wizard were consistent with those between a cat and a wizard.

Korma didn’t mind the Black Cat’s muttering. She clapped her hands decisively, taking on the role of ’summoner’ and ’leader’ to make the final decision for everyone, ”Since none of us have any leads right now, let’s just get started and cut the chatter.”

”The two of us, as we discussed earlier, will gather related information through the school, North Beta Town, and the wizard groups outside the school.”

”You,” Korma pointed at the somewhat dejected Black Cat, ”you can ask your cat and dog friends for news, as well as squirrels, parrots, kappas, or any creature. However...”

She slightly raised her voice, pausing for a moment.

The Black Cat twitched his ears.

”However, you’ll need to use your wizard identity to help us gather information from the East, West, and South Districts of Beta Town. We also don’t mind if you use magic beyond the normal restrictions to gather information... Don’t tell me you don’t have a wizard identity!”

The Black Cat opened his mouth, meowed instead of speaking, and didn’t utter a word of human language.

Korma lifted her eyelids with a humming laugh, making the Black Cat feel uncomfortable all over.

”Finally, it’s only ten-thirty in the morning, we have plenty of time,” Korma withdrew a golden pocket watch, checked the time, and then signaled to her companions, ”Although we now have a shortcut, we can’t put all our bets on that hamster... especially since we can’t even see the entrance to that shortcut.”

The Black Cat nodded in agreement and casually brushed off a ’caterpillar’ that had latched onto his side down to the base of the tree.

”So, for the next two and a half hours, we’ll form the Yin-Yang Formation to search this forest and see if we can find any clues to that secret realm.”

”Black Cat, don’t come down, just stay up there and keep an eye on our heads. Be alert for any danger around us.”

The Black Cat raised a paw and waved it firmly to show understanding.

Mid-wave, his paw paused in mid-air as he remembered an important question.

”I’ve been wondering about something,” the Black Cat said, choosing his words carefully, trying to frame his question tactfully, ”Why do you always refer to Old Mouse and that hamster with such reverence, always addressing them as ’senior’ and using ’you’... yet when it comes to me, you’re so casual?”

”We’re all talking animals here, who has an extra leg? Why don’t you consider the possibility that I might be some big shot playing the vagabond?”

The two witches looked at each other upon hearing this.

After a moment, it was still Korma who cleared her throat and answered Zheng Qing’s naive question.

”Because the Rat Immortal sees you as a junior,” her answer was unusually brutal, ”And besides, from many previous details, you’ve already revealed yourself to be a weakling... For instance, no big shot needing transformation would have to get it approved by a school.”
